Showering

I'd rather clean the glass than go back to a shower curtain which billowed out and stuck to me whilst showering. I use Method spray each day on whole area and clean once a week with washing-up liquid and warm water followed by window cleaning spray and an e-cloth. I like the sound of the Karcher window vac though, so will investigate.

I use a variety of methods to keep the shower doors clean. A quick spritz with Aldi's shower cleaner then either the blade (Merlotgran we have a curved one for curved doors - think it came from Lakeland) or the window vac. I also bought a powered brush which I use periodically on both the doors and the tiles in the main bathroom which is great. I have finally managed to persuade my husband to spray it down each time he's in there but he doesn't use the blade

We have a walk in shower - best thing no rickety sliding doors of a cubicle. Also we got a water softener fitted - no more limescale and lots of suds.

I do the same as DoraMarr; clean one wall each day while I'm actually in the shower, and then rinse off. It doesn't seem so much of a big job then. I use a limescale remover which works well. About once a week I take the plug/drain thingy out, give it a good scrub with an old toothbrush and soak the plastic bits in diluted bleach to remove any mould. I sometimes polish the glass with a microfibre cloth.

I just want to agree with NanaMacGeek if you use a squeegee straight away, no water no limescale then there’s no need for all the cleaning rituals.

If you polish the tiles with car polish it makes cleaning much easier.

We have a small shower with curtains on 3 sides, 4th side wall. It's a 'wet room''. It's not very powerful and the curtains don't seem to get wet, so only the lower wall needs cleaning.
That's fine for us, I used to dread cleaning our last shower, I always seemed to get wet when rinsing off the cleaning fluid.

Just to clarify I am referring to any glass panels, of course usual cleaning of shower tray, drain etc applies ?

I have never in my entire life washed a shower!!!

MissAdventure As we share the same water supply I can vouch for Method, it can be pricey but often on special offer and a little goes a long way.

Also Co-Op have an eco-friendly range which is good.

Years ago, the man who installed our shower advised us to not to use "bought" daily-spray. (Which he said can damage tiling - look at the small print!) Instead he advised using a spray-bottle filled with water and a good squirt of washing-up liquid. (Shake the bottle well to mix it up, when you fill it.) We've found that this is good (and cheap!) for daily use. For a "big" clean I use micro cloths and a helpful brush such as this:

Another vote for Method daily shower....it’s really effective and soooo easy.

We’ve got one of those little wiper blade things. A whisk over with that before I get out of the shower and then a quick wipe over with a towel to take of the bits I’ve missed.www.lakeland.co.uk/24842/OXO-Good-Grips-Wiper-Blade-Squeegee. (Garages sell them cheaper!)

I do have some of that shower spray stuff but it doesn’t work too well as we have hard water.

We also have very hard water so I do what most of you do.
Wipe with wiper blade, sideways on the curves.
Every so often I use white vinegar on a damp cloth. Seems to work. I do try not to use any bought chemical products.
I did buy a daily shower spray about 3 years ago. It’s still half full.

I always shower after my husband.
He never wipes after use!

Yes we have a curtain but we still use a wiper thing on the tiled wall where the water splashes..Do it overtime have a shower and even trained Mr B to it.

I prefer a bath to a shower so I'm curious about this. Are you still standing in the shower, starkers, when you're doing this spraying and wiping? Or do you get dried and dressed and then go back and clean it?

I prefer to clean the shower when I am in it, starkers, yes! (Am I the only one who does this....?)

Now another question: the new heated towel rail doesn’t get the shower room warm enough to stand starkers, wiping down the cubicle. It’s electric and I switch it on an hour before showering, set at 21. As the central heating thermostat is at 17, shouldn’t 21 be plenty to warm a small shower room?

I also clean the glass in my shower starkers while I’m in it, it only takes a minute to swipe the glass hardly time to get cold but I’m still showering with no heating on so I must be hardy ??.
I do clean the tray and drain weekly when I’m dressed but barefoot as it’s a long tray.

watermeadow, what you need is underfloor heating in there - absolute bliss!

Wh have had our shower in situ for many years. Looks as good as new. Squeegee off the water after every shower. Clean the tiles with dilute flash. Shower screen with fairy liquid.
