Pre Xmas De-cluttering Pledge support requested

I am today making a pledge to throw something I don't want or need away or give to charity every single day from today until Xmas Day. I know I hoard too many thing.

Yesterday I threw away 26 folders of degree notes and teaching file notes. I have been retired two years now so do not need them anymore.

Today I have been looking in my wardrobe and found a blu ray player box that has been there for 3 years. I know it is shameful.

Will anyone join me in a pre Xmas de-clutter and try to throw something away, even if something small every day?

Nothing today unless you count a defunct dishwasher

It all counts Callistemon. I have an old washing machine in my garage that needs removing. I should arrange for it to be taken to the tip but haven't got round to it yet, perhaps this thread will spur me on. In the meantime just a book and an old condiment set to report.

Two plastic party tablecloths, plastic cutlery and paper plates. Also a construction toy we were given which involved endless bits but without its' box as 'the grandchildren might like it'. They didn't!

I took a bag of outgrown clothes to a charity shop yesterday.

Today I have taken down a huge picture from my wall in the hall, and its sitting by the back door, waiting to go in the bin. (For some reason I feel quite sentimental over it)

It's not fit to pass on, or revamp.

Just normal rubbish here. Where does it all come from and how does it build up so quickly?
It's the recycling tonightmorrowmorning so glass and plastic bottles, plastic, card, paper, tins etc but not thin plastic like clingfilm and not tupperware type plastic either.
No-one ought to be allowed to make packaging which is not recyclable.
Will anyone take aluminium foil?
Oh and on another note. Is there a charity where you can send bras? They were pricey and good quality but no longer fit and are in excellent condition. I think I was told once you can post them somewhere but forgot to take note.

MissAdventure Sun 10-Nov-19 15:05:48

I'm sure there is a charity which takes them for third world countries. Bras, that is.

I'll go and have a look online. smile

www.againstbreastcancer.org.uk/recycling/bra-recycling/

I found this link. I think it talks about bra banks, so not sure it will be what you're looking for.

MissAdventure Sun 10-Nov-19 16:32:24

The picture is now in the outside bin (right at the bottom, so I can't get it out) and a handbag has sold on eBay.

I celebrated by buying a lamp on there. blush

Grammaretto Sun 10-Nov-19 17:45:13

Thanks MissA and well done on getting rid of the picture. At least I hope that's the right reaction. Why are you parting with it?

MissAdventure Sun 10-Nov-19 18:07:11

Well, I'm painting the hall, (slowly!) which is really narrow and dingy looking, and that picture is about 20 years old.

It's just a print from Ikea, and the frame is battered, the picture is a bit wavy, and the glass has scratches on it.

I haven't admired it for years, really, so it was time to bite the bullet.

Will anyone take aluminium foil?

In my area, clean aluminium foil is accepted along with the cans.
Check with your local authority.

Craft items seem to be my downfall. I know which clothes, ornaments and household things I no longer want but wool and bits of fabric 'might' always come in useful!

A boxful will be going to the hospice shop tomorrow---a new picnic blanket, some bits of jewellery, three pretty boxes, a scented candle and some notelets. I'm feeling the de-cluttering urge getting stronger by the day.

My bathroom cabinet finally sold on eBay.
Its been up for sale for months, but its too good to just throw, too wet out to just leave it outside, and too heavy for me to lug about. smile

Labaik Mon 11-Nov-19 18:13:28

Miss Adventure; could you take a photo of the painting and have it printed much smaller; then you could frame it and put it up somewhere so you could remember it [I know you say you don't admire it but you do seem to be fond of it].

Grammaretto Mon 11-Nov-19 18:35:52

well done again MissA on the bathroom cabinet. I didn't realise you could have things on Ebay for months. I thought it was a limited timed auction.
I'm learning so much on here.

Today I came across a large carrier bag full of items from DDs college costume course. What do I do with them? Dressing up box? Rubbish bin? Things like hair pieces, a bustle, shoulder pads, fabric etc.
Paralysis sets in.

MissAdventure Mon 11-Nov-19 20:10:57

EBay seem to have changed the listings for auctions, grammaretto.
They automatically renew if the item doesn't sell now (I think)

I'm sure with fees, and the fact that the cabinet only sold for £5 I'll be out of pocket, but at least it'll be going to a good home, because its really lovely, and in great condition.

Labaik honestly, my flat is so full of pictures and trinkets and tat treasures that its nice to see a bit of bare wall.

I found 2 lovely little frames and 2 postcards of Brighton, so they may go up in place of that picture.

I'm over that picture now. It was quite horrible when I think about it.

grannyticktock Mon 11-Nov-19 22:57:41

Gramaretto, a local theatre or drama club might welcome the items you mention.

grannyticktock Mon 11-Nov-19 23:00:15

I have now binned a dusty old straw basket that was hanging in my inner porch, with some tired old dried flowers in it.

Grammaretto Mon 11-Nov-19 23:03:04

That is a good idea grannyticktock.
I will ask. They are rehearsing the panto at present.

threexnanny Tue 12-Nov-19 14:57:36

I found a very well -chewed dog toy and a damp box of garden fertilizer to throw out yesterday. Now got to find suitable things for GC's school Rags to Riches sale. They only want good as new stuff!

MissAdventure Tue 12-Nov-19 19:08:33

2 football kit jacket things (you can tell I have an avid interest!) to charity today.
It's all I felt I could manage.

I'm worn out with trudging around with bags full of stuff to take on my way to or from work.

Grammaretto Tue 12-Nov-19 21:51:32

You are all doing so well. I haven't managed to recycle a thing today. Infact I haven't left the house. Tomorrow I will try to make up for it.....

seasider Wed 13-Nov-19 07:03:48

There is a charity called "Smalls for All" that will accept bras in good condition to send to women in Africa. My bras are quite big and my partner said if they don't fit anybody at least they can use them as a hammock for their babies!

Grammaretto Wed 13-Nov-19 16:23:54

Thank you seasider and grin

I'm feeling quite satisfied as the bike which a student left here last year has just been collected by a charity called the bike station and they called it a £100 bike, as that is what they will receive once the bike has been done up for sale!
He left me a thankyou card which says they have saved over 60,000 bikes from Landfill. They repair and recondition around half of the bikes and strip down and reuse parts from the rest.

I also gave some babywool and old patterns to the knitting group. Is my halo shining?
