Pre Xmas De-cluttering Pledge support requested

I am today making a pledge to throw something I don't want or need away or give to charity every single day from today until Xmas Day. I know I hoard too many thing.

Yesterday I threw away 26 folders of degree notes and teaching file notes. I have been retired two years now so do not need them anymore.

Today I have been looking in my wardrobe and found a blu ray player box that has been there for 3 years. I know it is shameful.

Will anyone join me in a pre Xmas de-clutter and try to throw something away, even if something small every day?

That's useful to know about the bikes Grammaretto. Round here they are often just left out with the bins .

There are quite a few destash groups on Facebook threexnanny.

Nothing gone today.
I forgot to take a bag of books out with me, and I have run out of steam for now.

Grammaretto Thu 14-Nov-19 21:38:37

I had to stay home until almost dark waiting for an order. I phoned at midday in case it wasn't coming but it eventually turned up at 3.30pm.
So that's my excuse for no recycling today. I suppose I could have de-cluttered but I felt like cooking instead.
I know all about running out of steam MissA.
It's probably bedtime.

Got DG1 to go through all her clothes and give me the ones she has outgrown and those she has been given but won't wear again.I got a whole bag full of good quality clothes for the charity shop and her room and drawers are tidier.

Just a lamp base to charity today; I feel worn out this week, but I'm a bit cross with myself for losing the impetus.

I missed today as well. I have a large rug rolled up in the hall. I was given it when I needed to cover bare boards before the floor was sanded and oiled. I must find a new home for it before it becomes a feature.
It is quite hideous!
DH has brought home some cake tins he bought in the midl of lidl.
I am cross with him.
We don't need cake tins.

Haven't done much for a couple of days but just found some costume jewellery which GC can take for their 'Good as New' sale.

Grammaretto Sat 16-Nov-19 16:48:55

Oh dear. I just bought more "stuff" at the craft fair. I think I need lessons in de-cluttering.
How do you start?
Do you begin by tidying?
Do you start in the easiest room or the hardest?
I mean my attic, which is walk in so a giant cupboard really, has hardly space to move but I hardly ever go in there so isn't as desperate as other parts of the house..

I'm sure there are decluttering experts on YouTube, and so on, but I wouldn't know what's the best method.

I just keep trying to send more out than I fetch in.

Surely that'll work, eventually? grin

Took 4 bags of stuff to Oxfam and have a raw knuckle to prove it. Their bell doesn't work and a notice days please bang really hard. I did. Ouch! Still the stuff has been got rid of.

Grammaretto Sat 16-Nov-19 17:33:15

well done Gonegirl !!

I'm working on the 'more out than in' method too. It's a bit haphazard so I am keeping a list of out and in (not including Christmas gifts to go anyway).
Just found a stash of old paint charts! Also knitting patterns pulled out of magazines and mostly never made.

I'm still keeping to the pledge and throwing out anything useful to us,OH has been through his shed and found bits and bobs of tools he has had for years and dropped them off at the Charity shop.
The boxes that I stored the xmas presents in have been broken down and disposed of and the presents wrapped I know they are taking up space but not for long.
Sent 4 x mens winter jackets to Thompsons mission for the homeless who go there along with some ladies woollen scarf's they will get some good wear out of them.

glammanana Sun 17-Nov-19 14:34:38

^ should read "not useful to us" ^ I am so dopey at times.

MissAdventure Sun 17-Nov-19 22:51:22

I have a dilemma.
4 pairs of good quality (only bought them in September) school trousers.

Grown out of, so they are split around the crotch area, along the seam.

What to do with them?

I don't want to spend my time sewing them up to then give to charity, but they're too good to just ditch.

Any suggestions?

Callistemon Sun 17-Nov-19 22:58:21

Stop putting manure in his shoes?

It is worth sewing them up if you have a machine? and I'm just wondering if the school has a 2nd hand shop?

Grammaretto Sun 17-Nov-19 23:03:09

I can't offer help MissA. I would repair them if I felt saintly or send them to the ragbag (WasteSaver) that operates out of Oxfam. The charity gets so much cash for rags. old clothes.

Here I have been a bit more proactive. I re-homed a fridge shelf and got DH to rehome 2 boxes of books.

MissAdventure Sun 17-Nov-19 23:07:41

I haven't got a machine, but I could do them by hand.

He'll possibly only get another 2 or 3 weeks wear out of them though.

My nearest Oxfam is 10 miles away.

I wonder if its worth putting them on freecycle or something?

For someone with a machine it would literally be a 5 minute job for 4 pairs of Debenhams trousers (skinny fit!)

Grammaretto Sun 17-Nov-19 23:39:52

It might be worth freecycling them. The kind of people who use freecycle are likely to be the kind of people who would want to repair the trousers.

MissAdventure Sun 17-Nov-19 23:50:57

Thanks.
Yes, that's probably what i'll do then.

I am just recovering from a nasty virus and have not decluttered for well over a week. Feeling better today so tomorrow I shall be on to it again. Well done thecrest of you for having kepf going. I shall have lost time to mske up for.

Grammaretto Mon 18-Nov-19 16:53:42

welcome back newnanny! I listened to my own advice and put a rug on free marketplace today. A bit of a faff.
I posted photos and description and at least 6 people immediately asked if it was still available. I then asked them if they could collect it now, today and only one can, this evening.
Another has no car. Another lives 30 miles away.
There's probably an etiquette but I'm blowed if I can be bothered with that.
It's free btw!
I'll let you know if it goes.

GeorgieKay Fri 22-Nov-19 16:44:20

Bit late to the party but I have just sorted 2 black bags of clothes to go to charity. Can't believe how much stuff I have that I'd forgotten about !! I definitely need to do some decluttering every day !!

Juno56 Fri 22-Nov-19 17:39:13

I've been recovering from an operation so hadn't done any decluttering for several days. Sorted out 6 (non matching) mugs and 5 books for the charity shop bag today so back to it.
