I am today making a pledge to throw something I don't want or need away or give to charity every single day from today until Xmas Day. I know I hoard too many thing.

Yesterday I threw away 26 folders of degree notes and teaching file notes. I have been retired two years now so do not need them anymore.

Today I have been looking in my wardrobe and found a blu ray player box that has been there for 3 years. I know it is shameful.

Will anyone join me in a pre Xmas de-clutter and try to throw something away, even if something small every day?

A computer keyboard will go to an organisation that recycles old electronic items and a folder of old payslips from a company I no longer work for waiting to be shredded and put in recycling bin.

I sell small items on eBay but have recently discovered that Facebook Marketplace is a good (and free!) way of selling or giving away larger items. It's very easy to list things, and people will come and collect them.

Our local council has just introduced a recycling system for linens, fortnightly, which is a great opportunity to reduce the bed linen I've been hoarding, and also small electrical items! This saves a trip to the recycling centre. I volunteer at a charity shop, so am also able to dispose of my no longer wanted clothes! I've got no excuse, but I've still got a long way to go.

That sounds excellent Patsy70. I wish our Council would catch up with yours. We have the stupidest "recycling " centre where you have to have a car - no pedestrians allowed incase they get run over? and you are not allowed to remove anything from a skip.
There is nowhere for old textiles and I have seen the operatives flinging things like glass, into the landfill skip when it should have been in a glass one.

Meanwhile back here. Hmm . It is bucket/bin day tomorrow landfill and that one is full to overflowing. A lot is bags of dirty sawdust from sanding the floor.

My charity bag at the back door is getting filled up and I resisted temptation today at the craft exhibition. I bought nothing and ate a lot of cake!
How is everyone else getting on?

I sold my purse on eBay.
It cost me £2 a few years ago, and it sold for £13, so I'm quite chuffed with that.
Now that's gone, I'm using one that was knocking around amongst the charity pile, which has handbags in it.

MissAdventure Sun 03-Nov-19 18:10:22

Um, the pile has handbags in it, not the purse. blush
You know what I'm trying (badly) to say.

Grammaretto Sun 03-Nov-19 18:39:53

MissA what a result. I have never made money on Ebay. I bought a nice woollen coat a few weeks ago on Ebay (whoops - I know, I know) and couldn't believe I'd won the bidding until I realised mine was the only bid and the zip was broken. However, I have had it repaired and wore it today.

MissAdventure Sun 03-Nov-19 18:45:55

Oh I love a bargain! Not especially clothes though, just knicknacks and clutter.

Juno56 Mon 04-Nov-19 19:21:13

Three dvds in the charity bag and a large old pillar candle that can't be lit anymore in the bin.

Callistemon Mon 04-Nov-19 19:56:11

I was going to go through the kitchen cupboards and start to ruthlessly throw out anything not useful but was saved by the bell
The doorbell - unexpected visitors which was lovely.

Grammaretto Mon 04-Nov-19 20:37:17

grin Callistemon
and Juno, well done.
I began on our bookshelves, really to find something to read and turned up my lost library book! I'd already paid for a replacement but I'll pop in tomorrow and see if they want it back You always find treasure when you tidy up.

It was such foul weather today, I got the bus into town and went to the museum. I resisted the charity shops but managed to not resist the museum shop and bought bargains for my presents drawer/cupboard for the DGC.

I am really cross with myself for missing the bin lorry today so my full to bursting wheelie bin will have to wait another fortnight!

I have now disposed of two items from my garage via Facebook Messanger and have an extra £30 in my purse, and tomorrow someone is coming to take away (for free) a part roll of most insulation that was sitting around. I have also sold a brand new scarf on eBay.

Sara65 Tue 05-Nov-19 21:36:39

I’m afraid I didn’t do very well last week, too many small houseguests, but I intend to start again tomorrow, you are all inspiring me!

MissAdventure Tue 05-Nov-19 21:39:17

I've slowed here as I'm decorating, amongst other things.
I have a carrier bag that's slowly filling up though.

2 candle holders, a photo frame thingy, 2 pairs of football boots.

My latest project is sorting out the grandchildren's jigsaws with pieces missing to throw out. I hope the council will take them as cardboard.

grannyticktock Wed 06-Nov-19 15:58:28

When my stepmum died and we had to clear her house quickly, we found a pile of about a dozen big jigsaws in boxes. We had no time to count the pieces and didn't think a charity shop would want them as we couldn't say they were complete. So I reluctantly put the whole lot into the papaer/cardboard recycling sack and put them out by the gate. I was delighted to find them gone within an hour or two - some passer-by was happy to have them and I was pleased to think they were being reused.

Sara65 Wed 06-Nov-19 17:45:17

Today, some cushion covers I bought and have never used.

Grammaretto Wed 06-Nov-19 18:11:42

I failed to dispose of anything today apart from my house guest. wink and I managed to post birthday cards and presents to DGC.

Callistemon Wed 06-Nov-19 18:51:30

I went through half of the kitchen cupboards today and found 3 items to dispose of (well, 9 items if you count three coffee cups and three saucers), found my large French iron casserole pot which I was going to throw out, but then scrubbed it, oiled it and put it back in the cupboard just in case.

Grammaretto Wed 06-Nov-19 19:06:13

I think the act of clearing, cleaning and looking at everything is half the battle Callistemon
That's a great story of the jigsaws grannyticktock we have a pile of wooden ones in the attic and each have pieces missing!
Useless?

Juno56 Wed 06-Nov-19 19:32:33

A bag of cookie cutters and an Halloween icecube tray today (someone may want ice 'cubes' shaped like little pumpkins).

Greenfinch Wed 06-Nov-19 19:48:09

Oh yes, cookie cutters Juno.I came across a box full I never use.I offered them to DD but she only wanted the gingerbread man so,instead of putting them back I shall get rid of them tomorrow.

MissAdventure Thu 07-Nov-19 21:16:07

Another big carrier bag full of books went today.
Around 12 'Diary of a wimpy kid' amongst them.

It seems such a shame, somehow, but I hope someone might really enjoy reading them.

MissAdventure Thu 07-Nov-19 21:21:44

Oh, but I did buy two cushion covers from the charity shop. because I've only got about 30 already to get rid of blush

Greenfinch Thu 07-Nov-19 22:56:13

My grandson would have loved your Diaries of a Wimpy Kid MissAdventure
