Agree she was flawed (including the the rest of the royals,) difference is the royals keep their private lives private , celebrities don’t and many of the public want celebrities.

I think, and of course none of us really knows, but I think Diana was in love with Charles when they married. I don’t think she was in love with the prestige or wealth because she already came from a prestigious and wealthy family. I think that Charles was not in love with Diana, but I do think he cared for her, he has admitted she was extremely pretty, so we can presume that he found her very attractive. The problem seemed to be that they had little in common except the lifestyle, and even though Diana was used to wealth and prestige, she none the less found the royal family stuffy.
To be honest, they probably were.
The people loved Diana precisely because she wasn’t stuffy. She was able to relate to the people she met, and she showed her love for her children openly, and the love she gave her children helped them to grow up to be much less stuffy. (I think Charles loved his sons too, and he still does.)
Going back to the Meghan and Harry scenario, it would appear that Meghan thinks she can be Diana’s successor. She can’t, she’s far too me, me, me!

There are people who get divorced and feel they've been 'done up like a kipper' and seek some sort of vengeance.

I suspect Diana fell into that category, and why not?

The royals aren't some kind of other worldly family, full of virtue and goodness, neither do they need to be tiptoed around.

They're just rather privileged people.

But emotionally , personally, nah they feel the same as the rest of us. Suffer the same emotions, love , passion, jealousy, pain, anger, betrayal, grief, happiness & joy .....

Exactly. I think Diana exposed that side of herself, but also showed that side of the other royals.
Up until then it had all been kept very much under the radar.

I think W&K have found a ballance between honouring Di and referencing her but also moving on and carving their own niche in life out

notanan2, I totally agree with what you said. I think W&K have it just right. They both show a huge amount of respect for the RF, and the public, and never seem to cause any kind of embarrassment to themselves, or others. She seems level headed and compassionate, and never courts any kind of controversy, neither does her family.

Considering that she comes from a relatively 'normal' family background, albeit rather wealthy due to having a very successful family business, I think she's done an amazing job to fit, which I'm sure can't have always been easy. I know some people don't like Kate, but I think she will one day be an amazing queen.

H&M should do themselves a big favour, and take heed of how W&K conduct themselves.

I think William and Kate have got it right too. They allow the public glimpses of their children, but it it seems they manage to give the the children a normal, if privileged life. The children’s life seems to be not so very different from many other children who enjoy the life style that money can buy.
Harry and Meghan could also have that life, they are rich and privileged, but it seems that Meghan wants a celebrity life style, whilst at the same time enjoying everything that the royal family can offer. (She was an actress, but not a well known one (had any of you heard of her before she was with Harry?) I don’t think she understands the difference between the royal life and the celebrity life.

I do think it is clear that MM wants to be famous forever and becoming royal has put her in the history books.
She won the lottery!

She doesn't want to play the Royal Family game though and if she continues as she is she will not stay.
Her fame remains anyway now so she cannot lose.
I doubt she cares much of what the UK thinks of her. We don't seem to matter to her.
She will possibly go back to the USA.

Diana was 19 she was in love with Charles and a naive romantic at that age. Plus, she didn't know she was marrying someone who was still romantically involved with another till her face was on the T Towels

Yes that's probably about it really. Her family went along with it and there she was a young, naïve girl of 19 being set up to produce an heir and a spare. Like a lamb to the slaughter.

Many references regarding Diana, from schooldays onwards suggest that she was a strong willed, determined young lady, who insisted on having her own way.
No different then than many of us who have pursed & been warned about a romance that we are convinced is right ,only to realise later that it was always going to be a disaster.

Being a strong willed teen doesn't mean she would have been able to cope with the royal family and all that entailed.

I really dont ses how Di could have loved charles! They had no courtship! Yes she wanted HIM to love HER but she wanted adoration from every angle and no amount of flattery seemed to satiafy her

" strong willed teenager" was relative to the world she inhabited.

Whenever Di spoke about "loving" Charles she never ever cites anything she loved about him!

Why, who have you spoken to that had in depth conversations with her over the course of her life?
