Poor woman. I don’t always back the royals, but fancy having people around you who would betray you like this. To a gutter press slavering for yet another bit of mud people can chuck your way.

I get why they feel the need to react, but sometimes I feel it’s just adding fuel to the fire, and they’d be better off rising above it. That way, it would soon be yesterday’s news.

But the mud slinging and nastiness is inexorable. Rising above this illegality would just encourage more of it. They have every right to challenge it.

I agree with crystal. If the MoS get away with this, then think of the market for letters from anyone deemed ‘newsworthy’ or ‘clickbait’ And this could include any of us given the right set of circumstances.

Quite likely her father sold the letter to the highest bidder, he has seemed a scoundrel all along. We can choose our friends not our relatives.

I don't blame them for suing. Why should the media sharks/vultures be allowed get away with anything and everything ?

And it actually doesn’t matter how the MoS got the letter - what matters is that they thought they were above the law and they published it.

I agree with others, if what the DM did was illegal, they're right to sue rather than just put up and shut up.

Time the media was called to account. Harry is reported as saying he doesn't want history to repeat himself. He is quite right to take action to protect his family.

Oh, and I am not a big fan of the royals, but they were born into the media Circus, can hardly blame them.

I agree with all the above views. A newspaper is supposed to enlighten us to what is going on in the world - what does printing a private letter achieve in the scheme of things? Absolutely nothing - it's a slippery slope.......

But where will it end? If Harry and Meghan start a war, the papers will retaliate.

I think what they have done is pretty low, but sadly that’s the world we live in, I can’t see any good coming out of making enemies of the press.

I have read that Mr Markle sold the letter to the newspaper,
He described the letter as ‘a dagger to the heart’.As it was his property (once in receipt of the letter) am not sure that legally he had no right to do so. Ethically, of course, he should have kept it private, but he seems to keep nothing private.She was writing to ask him to stop talking to the press ( so it’s ironic really.)
Now Harry has released a statement about all the trials and tribulations that he and Meghan have suffered! That won’t go down well.
He and Meghan should have a think about why William and Kate don’t have these problems.It’s because they do things by the book and don’t go in for showy or emotional outbursts.
If royals want total privacy they have to divorce themselves from the public purse.

From what I can glean the recipient 'owns' the letter but the writer holds copyright. Meaning that the letter cannot be printed elsewhere in its entirety. Which the MoS didn't do.

I'm not sure, I'm no legal expert. But the timing of this is unfortunate as the press was giving them glowing articles during this South African tour. The Press is fickle.

I feel that the Queen and Charles get it right. Say nothing. Seems to be the way to go. And possibly give popular newspapers a wide berth.

It's all very unfortunate but I do have sympathy for Meg's father . Up until she started dating Harry she was extremely close to the chap. Lived with him from the age of 11. She was constantly referring to him in her blog, The Tig.

But she met Harry and for whatever reason they never flew over to visit him. Or asked him to come over. Why not? Was she embarrassed by him?

Also people cry that she was right to disown him after the debacle of the Press photos before the wedding. He only did that after he realised that she'd gone.

If anyone remembers Harry made some crass comment about Meghan enjoying her first Christmas with a real family or words to that effect. This obviously annoyed her family and the rest is history. Sister starts selling stories and Dad gets daft ideas out in his head.

Kate doesn’t have a dodgy father and has been schooled in royal protocol over many years, Meghan is a newcomer and obviously it takes time to get everything right. I’m sure she yearns for the freedom she had before Harry, quite likely if this hounding goes on that’s what she will return to.

The royals never experience freedom and accept it, she has, will Harry go with her?.

The Duke of Sussex idolised his mother and feels guilty for not being old enough to protect her.

He is very much in love with his wife and obviously adores their son, in my opinion he will do whatever he feels he has to do to protect his family.

What a silly move by the Sussex pair. Never antagonise the Press. This Court case, win or lose, will unleash the fury of the tabloids and worse, the bloggers.
It really annoys me that MM wants to be seen smiling, in lovely clothes, clutching baby and scribbling on bananas but can't bear the negative. This is life, babe, not only your biggest role to date where you can call the shots.
