Looks like the Daily Mail is being sued by them regarding a private letter from the Duchess to her estranged father.

Who is behind the letter being shown to the paper? An unhappy member of their staff? Or Mr. Markle maybe?

bingo12 Sat 05-Oct-19 07:57:25

suziewoozie - they have not ''done '' anything to us ''personally'' obviously - if you don't get now why they are so annoying - you never will!

Bridgeit Sat 05-Oct-19 08:22:23

Bingo, they don’t put themselves in the paper!
That’s the point isn’t It ?

Peonyrose Sat 05-Oct-19 08:23:50

Every article with Megan's father has been followed by the words, he did not receive any payment for this article. Whether it was then given to charity I don't know. As her father, who was always there for her and supported her throughout, not to see her, go to her wedding or see his grandchild must be heartbreaking. Much is said about mothers being cut off from children but fathers care as much. To accept that he will never see her again must be horrendous. There was only one person from her large family at her wedding. She should at least do him the courtesy of a private visit and get closure, she would be safe, it could be arranged that it is done unobtrusively I think as her parent, he deserves that. When she is old how would she feel if Archie did the same to her.

Peonyrose Sat 05-Oct-19 08:40:27

I always had a soft spot for Harry, but he has changed. He has become part of a celebrity couple, funded by us. It's awful losing a parent whilst young, but a lot of bad things happen to people all the time unfortunately, you have to get on with it. Megan is no Diana and never will be, she

Kate was photographed on holiday in a private villa and the paps photographed her sun bathing topless.

William and Kate had their phoned tapped, they didn’t sue.

Bridgeit Sat 05-Oct-19 08:50:03

It’s amazing how so many people ‘ know’ all the circumstances & private details of this family .

suziewoozie Sat 05-Oct-19 08:55:59

I don’t allow myself to be annoyed by them. They are not important enough for that. As for the phone tapping, most of those affected didn’t sue or settled quietly. Partly it depended on the extensiveness of the hacking. We have no idea in K and W’s case of any of the details but why should that stop team K and W from making them up? As inferred upthread, what do we really know about them?

notanan2 Sat 05-Oct-19 09:39:20

At the TIME of the phone hacking scandal it was good that some sued. It stopped it from continuing.

Sueing NOW has no purpose. He is an angry man lashing out. He chose the public/royal life not the gated communities A lister life thst most of his friends live, and now he rebels against it!

lemongrove Sat 05-Oct-19 09:42:12

Thanks Merlot and Notanan2 I had thought the phone hacking may be new, but obviously not.

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/sep/05/topless-photos-of-duchess-of-cambridge-were-invasion-of-privacy

The Cambridge’s did sue over the topless pics Anniebach but basically I agree Harry is behaving like a petulant brat (a characteristic we also used to see in Prince Charles, I believe) and actually being more like Diana too in “playing” the media when it suits him but throwing his toys out of the pram when they don’t toe the line.
Princess Margaret was similarly fickle <sigh>

jo1book Sat 05-Oct-19 09:48:52

I do wonder if H worries that his lady will "bolt" if she cannot take being disliked? Think about the money and fame (and embarrassment) from the sight of her sitting on Oprah's sofa; telling it all.

Anniebach Sat 05-Oct-19 09:54:12

Yes Maw they sued over the topless photographs, I meant they didn’t sue over the the phone hacking

I will disagree over Charles, think he has had more bad press
than any of the Windsors and remained silent .

maddyone Sat 05-Oct-19 10:39:52

I agree with Peonyrose, the worst thing of all is the way Meghan and Harry have treated her father. Despite everything he is her father. He apparently had sole care of Meghan from her being 11 years old when her mother went back to work as an air hostess. He clearly loves his daughter, and would probably love to meet his grandchild. I realise he has made mistakes, but he is not British and probably doesn’t really understand the culture around the royal family. He has admitted he has made mistakes. It’s probable that he was pursued by the press and was misled, the American press are far more intrusive than the British press. If anyone were to look at the estrangement thread on Gransnet they would see that estrangement causes absolute despair and tremendous pain to those estranged. How Meghan can live with herself knowing what she done and the pain she has caused to her father is beyond me, I simply don’t understand. And Harry, despite losing his own mother, and knowing that pain, goes along with it. Why?

MissAdventure Sat 05-Oct-19 10:43:29

Do you know anything at all about her upbringing?

Do you know why her parents are divorced, or what went on in their home?

I don't.

I'm sure we could all look at others' families and say "how on earth has this happened"?

That's because we don't know what goes on between 4 walls.

notanan2 Sat 05-Oct-19 10:48:10

a characteristic we also used to see in Prince Charles, I believe

No. Charles was "laddish" as a lad. He matured. H shows no signs of maturing

Anniebach Sat 05-Oct-19 10:51:01

But to cut off not only a father but two extended families ,

silverlining48 Sat 05-Oct-19 11:01:42

There are many very good reasons why parents and extended others are sometimes cut off.
As MissA has said, we don’t know anything about what may or may not have gone on behind closed doors. If her father had been a good father presumably he would have had an invitation to the wedding, so can only assume that he wasn’t. The end.

jo1book Sat 05-Oct-19 11:31:41

I wonder if all of the Markle family is merely an embarrassment and no longer fits her new life. She probably knew they would cash in so pushed them to one side. Quite understandable, really!

Anniebach Sat 05-Oct-19 11:51:59

Megan has two uncles and an aunt on her mother’s side, and
two uncles on her mothers side, did she think they would all
cash in

MawB Sat 05-Oct-19 11:53:30

Don’t agree Notanan he could also be very petulant as a young man

Gonegirl Sat 05-Oct-19 11:53:47

I thought the father was invited to the wedding but didn't want to come. confused

Gonegirl Sat 05-Oct-19 11:54:26

Can anyone actually remember what Charles was like when he was a young man? Blowed if I can.

MawB Sat 05-Oct-19 11:55:43

He certainly was never “a lad” you only have to look at his time at Gordonstoun and then university. And remember the sulky face when Diana got all the publicity? Dancing with John Travolta? Not that I am altogether blaming him - upbringing and an overbearing father did him no favours.

Gonegirl Sat 05-Oct-19 11:59:26

this article says he was coming

Didn't he pull out because the royals took offence about the press being allowed to photograph him?

Can't see how it's Meghan's fault.

Gonegirl Sat 05-Oct-19 12:00:08

Could have been his natural face Maw? I dunno.
