What I did today

I have had my birthday celebrations today. Lunch with the family at pub, then back here for presents and party food.

We went to see Phoebe Waller-Bridges live show at the cinema. She is amazing. I believe this is her Fleabag one woman show originally performed at the Edinburgh festival and what she based her series on. No wonder it was sold out in London.

Have been away for the weekend visiting relatives yesterday and then Bletchley Park today. Just as we sat down to afternoon tea the fire alarm went off and we had to wait outside in the pelting rain!!!

Church this morning-v uplifting service. LOADS of food donated for harvest for food bank. Lady spoke on Psalm 23-you know, the Lord’s my Shepherd.
Walked round to visit a lady whose husband of 59 years died recently. Sadly can’t go to funeral. Will visit her again afterwards-must be hardest time.
Tried to visit new neighbour who had a spat in the road with an inconsiderate parent parked for local school but he wasn’t in. Hope there’s no repeat tomorrow-poor children having to witness bad behaviour.
Had just over an hour’s chat with my dear sister-grrr-we always try to ring back before the hour’s up cos an hour is free.
Watched Strictly on catch up-fed up with audience shrieking so can’t hear lovely singers and musicians.

Feel almost human again, a bit of sinus pain but nothing like it was. Absolutely delighted. . Food shopping, some tidying and even a little ironing.

What did you think of Bletchley Park grannyg? We were there two years ago and enjoyed every moment, but then we weren’t turfed out in the middle of tea .

A very wet morning here but the afternoon fairly dry if oh so windy. Not pleasant to be outside so I stayed in. There’s a flood warning for high tide. The waves have been coming over the sea defences, just a little fortunately. Happy belated birthday gonegirl, always good to celebrate.

My grandaughter dyed my hair pink yesterday. I love it!

Have spent most of today reading long ago minutes of meetings of our WI which celebrates its 100th birthday shortly. I am trying to create a display but we don’t have anything like a complete set of books so there are some huge gaps, but it is fascinating to notice that some things never change and that there is a small group in each generation which does all the work whilst the majority just want to tag along.

GrannySomerset it was ever thus. I must confess though that I actually joined the local WI with the avowed intent of just 'tagging along'.

I work full time juggling two very demanding voluntary jobs and needed something for me where I could simply be a passenger. My family and friends all thought that I would be on the committee in no time - they just didn't believe I would say 'no' when asked (as it was a fair bet I would be), but I have stuck to my guns and declined to be cajoled into doing more than I determined I would.

I do my turn on the tea rota and donate books and raffle prizes, I support all the activities that I can and I am just about to give my second talk (hopefully I shall be well by then), but I can't afford to take on anything extra and I am very fortunate that my fellow WIers understand my position.

GA - it wasn’t meant as a criticism so much as an observation! And of course not you! And of course it’s the same with every organisation; with working life getting ever more demanding people simply don’t have the time and energy to put into community efforts that perhaps they once did.

I have been licking my wounds after being told off on a thread.
I made celery soup this morning, quite good, did a load of "darks" which I didn't even try to put out.
I had a friend come round to take some books off my hands, she was pleased and so was I. Only two more boxes to go.
My GD and I have had fish cakes for supper, now she is doing some exercises and I am watching a dvd, one of the ones I kept.

I got up very early and drove to Stevenage to care for my grandson. We went to his music class, I stood and watched the buses and cars with him. Then we went for coffee. We stayed in and played lorries and crayoning this afternoon. Then I bathed him and put him to bed. I’m now collapsed, exhausted on the sofa waiting to repeat it all over again tomorrow before driving back home. I love being a Grammy!

As this has been the first day for almost a week that I've felt well enough to do normal things, I went shopping with my Homecare lady.

Bought vegetables and fruit, more throat lozenges and tissues; got cash from the ATM and posted a 'bread and butter' letter to my wonderful hosts who treated me with such care and kindess over the past 3 weeks.

Tomorrow, I hope to go out to lunch with a friend.

I'll be having another early (8pm) night in an effort to catch up on 14 days of lost or no sleep.

I don't regret the vigils for one moment but you just don't realise how lack of sleep can bring you down when you're in your 70s.

First quiet day for weeks. I went for my walk early to get it in before the rain started and picked 5ozs of blackberries. We then returned the van we had on hire and once I got home I stayed in catching up on paperwork, all our insurances are due for renewal and some are causing problems.

I admit I fell asleep on my desk in the afternoon, something I do not do much, but for some reason I had a disturbed night last night.

This evening will be spent packing and preparing for three weeks of being away a lot (visiting family, short holiday in Wales, then a trip to our house in France).

Have been on Granny duty, as GC is off school poorly, so just fitted in jobs as and when.

Well it’s been a very strange kind of few days for me . No little people , no school runs and no “that place” either . I started with a nasty cold but ended with a bad chest and cough which had knocked me for six . Another trip to A&E again with DH on Sunday too but I didn’t dare wait with him I would’ve contaminated the entire hospital. My DDiLs car got broken into at the weekend ( along with several others in the area) but she had left her purse and keys in the door pocket ( all stolen) meaning that they have had to have all their locks changed . What a stinking month September was in our family !

This morning my dad texted to say he was poorly too so my intention of staying in the warm today went pear shaped and I had to get him a bit shopping , medication etc. Then take it over to his . I felt really faint driving back coughing my guts up and not having eaten . Glad to be home and warm . Hope DH and I get some rest tonight I really must go to work tomorrow .

I’m so sorry you were upset by another thread Annsixty which I presume is why you started the jealousy/ envy thread this morning . I didn’t read whatever it was that has upset you but please take no notice . I know you are a kind and warm person . Xx

Well, here I am in my hospital bed. I tried to post earlier, but the WIFI signal here is dreadful.
In recovery, I had one of those lovely warm you up blankets, and I keep being told to breathe more deeply, as the alarms go off.
I was given a sandwich, yogurt, banana and apple juice and the most welcome cup of tea.
When I was moved back to the ward, somebody was in my bed space. Felt like Goldilocks, but am now back where I should be. My belongings had gone missing, but the ward sister had locked them safely away.
DD visited on her way home from work and my supper arrived. Macaroni cheese and salad, juice and ice cream. I now feel very full.
I am sore, as I have a catheter,etc, which will be taken out tomorrow.
As I have a new phone, I am trying to make head or tail of it, and I brought my crochet with me, as I can't concentrate too much on a book.
I want to keep dozing.
Hoping Gillybob and her DH are OK. and that her sore throat is getting better.

So glad it’s all done and dusted Auntieflo you’ll be a new woman in no time . I’m sure the catheter will come out in the next day or two so try not to fret about it . I think the anaesthetic stays in your system fur a while afterwards so not surprised you feel sleepy . Don’t fight it . I’m fine ( thank you) just coughing and wheezing for England ! Xx

Oh dear, I've been very unproductive today and that's saying something. I'm still in my pyjamas and dressing gown.
Due to the dreaded lurgy I've been coughing, sneezing and spluttering, nearly throwing up.
I have postponed the ironing for yet another day.
Have only eaten two small meals but let's look on the bright side - I could do with losing some weight.

oh heavens! I miss this thread for a couple of days and you are all ailing!!!

Robberies, colds and chests, hospitals and even nasty people. Whatever next!

I had a very lazy and quiet day by comparison.
I chased up a few things, was treated to a wonderful community lunch, had a long phone call from DD who is not very happy at present either.
It must be the weather. Are any of you drowning in floods?.

Interested to hear that other people have a respiratory lurgy. DH has a sore throat and is under the weather at present and spent the afternoon asleep in bed.

AuntyFlo you have been very brave. Hope you can enjoy a bit of feet up time now.

I have had my flu jab.
