This was a very popular thread a few years ago and I thought I would revive it.
We welcome happy days, sad days and even slightly boasting days , every thing that has happened is very welcome.
I said when I mentioned that I might start this thread that my own life was very boring, getting up, eating, GN and going to bed.
How things change.
My 20 year old eldest GC has moved in with me, totally unexpectedly.
She has had a somewhat troubled life which I won’t go into but she is my best friend, the most supportive of my family with my H , she adored her GD and was my best help when he died.
I am somewhat overwhelmed by today’s events but so happy she has chosen to be with me.
To get to the mundane, we have had a lovely roast pork dinner with all the trimmings and I am now enjoying a glass of red before I go and sort the kitchen out.

I have had my flu jab at work today. Hope October is a better month for all who have had a bad September. Get well soon AuntyFlo, Gillybob and beige flowers

annsixty Tue 01-Oct-19 21:06:50

Well done Auntyflo it is behind you now, all you have to do is feel better.
Gilly and lbc I hope you soon feel better.
I went out for coffee this morning and a lovely chat, came home and had a sandwich for lunch and then did a bit of cleaning as GD was bringing a friend home for a meal and to stay the night.
I couldn't let the side down.
They are having a giggle in the dining room while I watch a bit of tv and then bed.
Tomorrow I am being taken to the Trafford Centre for a bit of retail therapy and lunch, I shall be getting a reputation for never being in.?

There seem to be a lot of Autumnal lurgies about. Take care everyone and feel better very soon ?
Yesterday I drove from home in Wiltshire to East Sussex in the most awful weather conditions. Very frightening; more frightening is the amount of drivers who take no account of the conditions and continue to speed, endangering all the rest of us. I spent the rest of the day continuing the emptying of my Aunt’s house stopping every five minutes to read old papers and mull over family photos, so not a lot was achieved! I picked the last of her apples, had a chat with her neighbour over a cup of tea and arranged to take my Aunt’s lovely cleaning lady out to lunch today. She visits the house each week to ‘keep an eye’. Just woken up after sleeping like a log ?. Back home later so hoping for a better journey ....

Pottered about this morning doing something & nothing.

Neighbour I like enormously & haven't seen for a while because she's been visiting family overseas popped over for a pot of tea and a catch-up.

Planned a visit to South Ken for the museums and lunch with an old and dear schoolfriend tomorrow.

Made nice labels for jars of chutney ready for major chutney & pickle making on Friday (presents).

About to cook tea for DH & me.

Went to “that place” feeling a bit rubbish .
Intended on leaving early but ended up staying all day . Got a text from my dad saying he needed shopping ( only went for bits yesterday ) so ended up in Asda on my way home . Spread more germs I would imagine ( so sorry but what what can I do ?). Pharmacist said that the lurgy is rife at the minute and has sold out of quite a few “cold and flu related” products . Just got home and having an easy pasta for supper and a nice early night . What an exciting life I lead . grin

Totally lazy day. Was still in my pj’s at 4pm. Had a shower, got dressed and walked over to see the smalls. Grandad was ‘play wrestling’ on the carpet with 7y old grandson - not bad for a 67y old! I kept the 2y old cutie out of the way. We played kitchen in the playroom then I gave her a bath. Took the clean baby downstairs and took the grandson up for his bath where he told me some snippets about being in the juniors (boys eh?).

So me: ‘okay tell me two things about the juniors’
Him: ‘well grandma, we get a different colour plate for lunch so the dinner ladies know we are allowed an extra sausage’.

Me: ‘ooh that’s a good idea! Anything else?’
Him: ‘erm .. not really ... can we play something?’

Love it ?!

Home again now. Grandad has just taken two paracetamol ...
??

P.s. put your feet up gillybob and chill - you deserve it. And Auntieflo sounds like the NHS at its best. Sleep tight and hope you get your discharge soon. x

In addition to my usual medical needs I've had a recurrence of shingles in my eye, an asthma flare up, and I have a post-viral cough with a secondary bacterial infection. I've just set up my prescription medicines ready to go on holiday next week: shock

If I had to pay for my medication I would be bankrupt very quickly

annsixty Wed 02-Oct-19 20:12:26

So sorry for the poorly ones, feel better soon!!
I have had a really satisfying day, my friend took me to the Trafford Centre, the first time I had been for years.
I had a bit of retail therapy, two jumpers, and a few bits from Lakeland, then we went to the Yang Sing for the lunchtime special which I really enjoyed.
I was "rather tired" when I got home so I had a snooze on the sofa and then my GD rang to say she was meeting a friend after work and would get something to eat out.
I have had some pate with toast as I had a meal at lunchtime.
I will have a reasonably early night after an enjoyable day, something I didn't expect to be having a few months ago.

MawB Wed 02-Oct-19 20:14:40

Ouch grannyactivist shingles in the eye can be very dangerous. Are you “under” a local eye hospital?
Best wishes for a speedy recovery without complications flowers

Grammaretto Wed 02-Oct-19 20:15:32

Is that seriously your meds each day grannyactivist?
It doesn't look healthy at all. Do the medics who prescribe this stuff know what it looks like?
I guess if it keeps you alive you must take it.
Please get well soon and then you can enjoy your holiday.

I went to see an immobile friend today and we had a good natter over tea and I have set her up with some crafty things to do.
I picked chanterelles on the way home and we ate them for supper.

I also collected the mower from the repairers where it's been languishing for weeks. One last mowing before winter. I think it would be easier to keep a sheep.

We went to the tip this afternoon, the first time for a long time as for health reasons DH hasn't been able to drive for eighteen months and I don't like the parking arrangements. It was very busy but efficient and well organised. All the men were so cheerful and helpful, offering to empty our many bags and to take things to the far end of the yard to save me walking there, in spite of my being quite fit! I was so impressed I complimented the head man and he was pleased. Can't be a pleasant job for those men but they certainly made the trip to the tip less of a chore for us.

moggie Wed 02-Oct-19 20:53:29

EllanVannin Wed 02-Oct-19 21:40:11

Did some washing first thing while I was eating my breakfast and by the time I'd finished eating and having a wash the washing was ready to go on the line. That done so coat on and a trip to Asda where I treated myself to a big blue jumper ( baggy one ) grocery shopping done, so home James.
Lunch was honey roast ham on Welsh bread, then smoked haddock with a poached egg for tea.
Here I am now in my jim-jams ready to hit the sack later. Might see what the film's like "The Cotton Club " on 81---a jazz film, though I'll probably nod off.

grannyactivist Wed 02-Oct-19 21:49:56

Yes, that is what my prescription meds are at the moment Grammaretto - but only for a week longer and then I can at least drop the steroid tablets and antibiotic capsules (I have quite a few ongoing medical issues).

MawB I had shingles in my eye a couple of years back, so badly I needed hospital treatment and the eye consultant was actually called out to see me in the early hours of the morning. I was ill with it for many, many months, but this time it's not so bad. My consultant told me I can bypass the usual referral route and ring his secretary for an appointment if the shingles returns and I think I need to see him, which is very reassuring. (I get the same excellent service as if I was paying for it directly and feel very fortunate to do so.)

Whitewavemark2 Wed 02-Oct-19 21:52:56

I did a bit of delicate washing.

Finished planting spring bulbs, have only got the tulips to plant in pots but I leave those until Nov-Dec

Did a bit of cutting back.

Chicken sandwich for lunch.

Read for an hour “Hundred Years War”

Tea with neighbour

Broccoli pasta for supper.

Nothing much on tv that interests me, so watched the Capture recorded from yesterday?

Just going to bed, to read

Up early to drive to my dd’s house and drop gd at school and then dd at work, as her car (actually my other car which she uses) was booked in for mot. Lovely garage not only picked up the car but delivered it back AND it passed. Put me in a very happy mood. Gym class this morning then home for housework then school pick up and later out again to pick up dd from work. So very happy to have dd, wonderful sil and gd close by - I do a lot for them but they are so appreciative and give me such joy. It’s nice to feel useful and needed. dh still works from choice - but is increasingly dependent on everyone around him, both in the business (his own) and family.

Urmstongran Wed 02-Oct-19 22:34:17

I’m coming to live with you EV your meals always sound delicious!

Auntieflo Wed 02-Oct-19 22:57:17

Thank you all for your kind wishes.
Well, I got home around 4.30 ish, courtesy of DD and SIL, in their lovely spacious, easy to access, car.
It is lovely to be back, and I feel so lucky to have only been away for 1 night. A couple of ward mates have been there since before the weekend.
NHS certainly at it's best where I have been concerned. Staff were all lovely, kind and considerate, and keeping you informed wherever necessary.
DH has survived, just! He had to cook rice last night, and said it was terrible. But he managed some vegs for him tonight, with quiche from the freezer, ( one I had prepared earlier) and salad for me.
We will survive.
I feel very well and now must take the advice given, not to do anything at all strenuous for the next 6 weeks.
Tucked up in bed now, and catching up on GN news.
Night, night all.

Marydoll Wed 02-Oct-19 22:58:33

Glad you are home and safely tucked up! X

rubysong Wed 02-Oct-19 22:59:50

Village coffee morning this morning and I do the washing up. A quick lunch and put a wash on (for DH to hang out later) then WI committee meeting in the afternoon. Next a bit of gardening, removing some weeds and put in some plants I have grown from seed. They are rock roses and apricot foxgloves. We then dashed off to look at items for sale in our local auction house (big shed). Always an interesting variety but nothing I desire this time. Fish and chips in the pub then home to chill out and watch a bit of the athletics. Also cutting up bits of fabric ready to stitch back together. (To make a 'scrap' quilt.)

After a call from my sons partner I went to sit with her and our 3 week old wee girl, sons partner wanted to hear family stories so she can pass them on which I thought was lovely. So I sat for 2 hours talking about My gran and mum and my children from when the were babies and showing her photographs of baby's dad at the same age.He was in an incubator and only 3 pounds at 3 weeks but the resemblance with his wee daughter is amazing. Its like looking at the same baby.We had tea,and cake before I left to collect the prescription that the chemist told me was difficult to get and might be harder to get if/when brexit happens.Home to make some apple crumble topped pies for the freezer from apples handed in by a neighbour and had just made dinner when son ,partner and baby dropped in on their way from the supermarket. Two visits in one day.I feel so lucky to have such a thoughtful family..although they did take chicken and sweetcorn soup.lasagne and those apple crumble pies home with them ..wonder if that was the plan...lol

gillybob Wed 02-Oct-19 23:32:57

How lovely paddyann smile

So glad you are safely back home AuntiFlo, and commiserations to all those miserable with colds etc.

DH and I went on a coach trip to Lincoln, early start but weather perfect. We didn't have time to do more than grab lunch in Lincoln Castle cafe and walk round the outside of the castle and the cathedral. We followed that with a walk down the very steep Strait with its little speciality shops, and the more difficult climb back up!

Then it was off to the Bomber Command Centre, so sad that those 56,000 young people of Bomber Command who died had to wait so long for any form of recognition for the sacrifices they made, and even now are denied a medal. There are so few of them left, would it really hurt to remedy that? The average life expectancy of these aircrew once they started flying was two to three weeks, and they knew that when they signed up, but were desperate to save their country. Imagine if that was your son or grandson.

It you get a chance, do visit. There is a 102' high hollow spire, the width of the wing span of a Lancaster bomber. Around it are curved metal boards with the names of the 55,500 of Bomber Command who died in the war, and a ribbon of fame where you can add a brick for any relative who died in the war.

There is a very good visitor centre with some of the stories of the crew brought to life in film, and filming of the bombings. Plus a shop and cafe of course!

Home via the traffic jams of the M1, back to our reality...

Supermarket trip with DH this morning - always .leisurely with him in tow as he not only wants to read all the labels but also to challenge whether we really need things. Only challenges boring stuff like dishwasher tablets and loo roll, though; wine, chocolate and biscuits go in the trolley without a murmur!

More work on WI archive this afternoon and evening because I am running out of time owing to not starting soon enough. Some of us never learn.
