What I did today

I've been trying to separate frozen pork chops----with a hammer. I made the mistake of putting them straight into the freezer without separating them so it's a large clump of 4.
The man upstairs will think I'm putting shelves up, hahaha.

I might have to end up roasting them as you would a rack of lamb, then I can have the same meal on Monday.
Silly me, I can defrost them ( rolls eyes ) I'm not functioning properly, no sleep at all last night but I'm not doing so badly. Ah well it's still pork chops two days on the run---never mind.

Been to see my baby grandson who is 1 today. He is such a joy.
Finished making the samosas (started yesterday) and put them in the freezer. I don't know why I bother, since it's so much easier to buy them. Mind you, wont be as tasty.
Did one lot of washing and now just chilling in my armchair, with the ipad

I missed the morning thread so signing in here. I baked a cake which looked good. I didn't try it because it was for the community cafe. Then 2 loads of washing on the line. A great feeling after what seems like days of rain.

I went to see Downton last night at a cinema where you have a reclining seat. Very comfy. Maggie Smith was worth going for alone and it was enjoyable although not a very likely plot.

I've heard from a longlost cousin who lives quite near me now so I must arrange to see her.

I must get out for a walk before the sun goes in.

Or I may just slump in a chair and sleep. That's the trouble with getting up early.

Oh GA, so sorry that your shingles has recurred. You must be feeling pretty fed up about that. Look after yourself and I'm sure the WM will give you all the care you deserve.

I sat on my mob scooter all the way to the chemists and there was a pleasant mild breeze, drifts of light rain, and flashes of sun. Lots of dog walkers and the most beautiful Hungarian bitch has learned some English

I'm celebrating. The room has stopped circling and I seem to almost have the capacity to think. Working on a food shop list and am convinced tomorrow I will be able to go and fill a trolley. I'm sorry your virus has lasted so long ga, you must be more than tired of it by now.

I'm sorry but the oven event made me smile. It's the sort of thing that would happen to me. I am just a little accident prone, or perhaps awkward . Our garage door lifted then a spring parted leaving me holding the door up unable to move, the front door key has twice snapped in the lock and a casserole has exploded on the hob decorating the kitchen beautifully. I could go on . Still, I'm pleased your neighbour sorted it for you.

I hope to report I've been out and about tomorrow.

This is a lovely thread - I haven't looked at it before, but it is so interesting to see what people do.

This started off as a difficult day for me (the bucketing rain didn't help). DH had major surgery nearly 2 weeks ago, and although he is now home and doing well (touch wood), I find that sometimes the strain of the past few months catches up. However, I have spent the day pottering with things which I enjoy doing and now feel much better. I know that some of you are missing those you love, and that I am very lucky that DH is still with me. Love and hugs to those who are going through a sad time

Lovely day here. There is a big road race past my house today so I got up early and walked part of the route before it started.Met my neighbour on the way back and waited with her as her son was running.An African fellow was about 10 minutes ahead of the pack.
After lunch an old friend rang and wanted to walk the route. I didn't tell her I had already been so I am now shattered.

I walked into the centre and took the bus to the nearest and very lovely, cathedral city, 45 minutes of sitting, relaxing and chatting with a stranger. Filled a bag with goodies and came home, again chatting most of the way. Each time, it was a widow. Tidied a niggling `catch all` drawer later and now feel very satisfied, it could have been a lonely day but it wasn`t

Trip into Bath for coffee and M&S food shop - DH loves the individual puds and Tesco’s don’t quite hit the spot. Since his appetite is small I really try to provide things that he likes and have stopped making him eat things he doesn’t. At 84 I think you are allowed not to eat broccoli!

Otherwise have started sorting “summer” clothes to discard or put away and checking winter woollens for moth, since I think summer is over at last.

Yesterday I made a coconut cake, so when DD and SIL visited, I had something to offer them.
This morning I finished off a little crocheted pebble fish, and am pleased with him, so may make a few others.
Our window cleaner came this morning, after a long summer absence. I was so pleased to see him and he is going to clean the fascia boards and also the underneath of the gutters. Then we went out for our usual coffee with friends. I had to collect my new glasses, ( not happy with them), pay in a cheque, swop sims over on phones and do a shop. We had a lovely letter from DH niece, saying she had been successful in claiming an inheritance for her mum, with DH's help.
This afternoon, I have been lazy, as my ribs and boob are extremely uncomfortable today, after my fall last week, so GN it is and reading my new book.
Dinner is in the oven for later, and a glass of something medicinal is on the cards.

I have spent the day watching Netflix because I had been poorly during the night and was listless and not up to exerting myself, awful thing is I do not feel guilty.

A medicinal G&T for me for absolutely no reason than I like it.
I have not been far today as the weather has been awful but I did nip to a neighbour as it was her birthday, and after a conversation on the phone ,I persuaded her she should apply for AA for her husband, he fills all the criteria.
She is not tech savvy and will wait for her D to do it.
I get exasperated with people younger than me who won’t embrace technology.
I didn’t touch a computer until my 70’s and virtually taught myself.
I cooked a nice meal for my GD and myself, chicken breast filled with Boursin and wrapped in Parma ham with salad, it was good and I had a glass ( or two) of Villa Maria Sauvignon blanc, she had summer fruit cordial ( eugh)
We are now going to clear away and watch a film.

I'm on a train returning from a vintage train trip to Fort William. It's a thirteen hour round trip and has been an absolute joy.
The weather has been glorious and the scenery stunning.
An hour to go until we come back to our morning departure point.
This is first time in about ten hours we have access to Wifi, thanks to good old Scotrail!
We are absolutely shattered and I'm dying for a cuppa!!

Marydoll - you were very fortunate to get a dry day in Fort William. It is notorious for bad weather especially heavy rain so well done!! It has been a lovely afternoon here in the north of Scotland after heavy rain through the night.

PS: I am also enjoying Scarborough annesixty but until now haven't found anyone else who does!!!!

Found this thread a couple of days ago but as I’ve been in bed with a flu-y bug there was nothing much to say! Got up today and watched Ireland being beaten by Japan in the rugby. ☹️ Had a lovely chat with DD while half watching Namibia v RSA! Athletics after that till Strictly. Oh dear, I never usually watch so much telly - but I’m still in the recovery phase!

I spent the day rehearsing from scratch and then singing Vivaldi’s Gloria with a church full of strangers. A happy day making new, temporary friends ...and there was lots of cake to sustain us throughout the day ?
Home & have been watching some episodes of ‘Anne with an E’ (Anne of Green Gables) on Netflix. Such a lovely story ; I’m sitting here all emotional. Amybeth Mcnulty as Anne is amazing

Today has only just started but we hope to have a relaxing day after a hectic but enjoyable time.

annsixty we visited the Villa Maria vineyard last week - it was lovely and of course, we had to taste some of the wines, have a delicious lunch then purchased more wine to enjoy later.

Such a busy day, not particularly welcomed.
For those who don’t know my story, my H died last April after 60 years of marriage.
Last week my GD who is almost 21 moved in with me, her father already lives with me, but they don’t have the close relationship they should have.
She has decided to take me in hand and is sorting out things which needed doing ages ago.
We have sorted out books, dvd’S and utility room cupboards.
A visit to charity shops and the tip is on the cards.
My contribution after telling her what I absolutely wanted to keep was to cook a Sunday dinner and for once my Yorkshire puddings rose to the occasion.
I am now in bed and so tired.
Weather wise it has been wet,wet, wet.
Can we hope for better this week?

We have been on an outside pitch at the Peterborough Antuques Fair for the last three day, quite an experience. On Friday a sudden squall picked up our gazebo, each corner weighed down by a 20lb weight and only DH and DD hanging onto it, stopped it disappearing. Meanwhile I was clinging to a table with all our china and glass on trying to stop it blowing over. Everything was saved but we packed the tent and the valuablegoods and delicate china into the van safely and yesterday just traded with stock that was water and wind proof.

The fair ended yesterday so today was a nice quiet recovery day. A good lie-in, leisurely bath, then brunch in the local Lounge. a wander around DD's town before getting into the van and driving home. We got home to spend the rest of the day doing nothing much - except I started getting some winter clothes out, summer is definitely over.

Gosh, you were brave MOnica. I think it's going to be better weather, but colder. In fact I noticed the clouds were coming from the north this afternoon. Drove through torrential rain up the M56 to my sister's for lunch and the spray was so bad I didn't take the Mway home.

Spent some time trying to get my head round my GS's maths homework! Fortunately we found an excellent website which explained what to do, as he swore the teacher hadn't shown them. Probably wasn't paying attention more like.

Put the heating on tonight, but off to Spain for a little holiday this week hoping to build up some resistance to winter ills and chills.

Joiner working in kitchen today. We went to visit BIL in nursing home it is his birthday today. Nice afternoon, b’day cake for all. Then visited my sister & home to cook on camping stove & George Foreman grill ?will have cooker in next few days.

I hope it is ok to tell you what I did yesterday. It was the centenary service of Cornwall Federation of WIs and I carried our WI banner (among many others) in Truro cathedral. It was a lovely service and the cathedral was full. The colourful banners looked marvellous. I was the driver and four of us went. The journey home was an hour and a half of strong winds and torrential rain. We were very glad to get safely home but had really enjoyed the day.
In the evening I went to our local history group and listened to a talk about the civil war in Cornwall.
