As the gran who had a designer draw up plans for her GD's bedroom, I would like to say I have never said anything to Gabriella that is unkind or even commented on this thread. She makes a lot of intelligent observations and is entitled to her opinion.

We only have to watch our grandchildren to know that when people are personally unpleasant to each other, it will not end well!

It really should be possible for adults with the accumulated wisdom and life experience of us Gransnetters to discuss controversial topics without it descending into a personal slanging match. I suspect that none of this would happen in a face-to-face discussion. It is a similar syndrome to that of rude car drivers who hide behind the anonymity of being cut off from their victims. I have noticed, for example, how my very gentlemanly OH becomes more aggressive and a lot less courteous when behind the wheel of a car! It frustrates me no end!! I suppose we all react differently when we see people face-to-face, after all we are social beings.

The love, support and sympathy which pours out from Gransnetters when an OP has a problem, is really really moving and something quite special. I suppose it is because the OP's vulnerability is exposed and we see them as a person, not just an abstract manifestation of opinions opposed to our own.

In fairness, Gonegirl, it wasn’t clear that the original post about buying Ferragamo shoes was aimed specifically at Gabriella. If you hadn’t seen the previous mention of them (I hadn’t), you wouldn’t have known that she’d bought any. In that case, poking fun at the shoes wasn’t personal.

It’s been a strange thread, but I hope nobody is put off posting because of it.

I LOVE LIKE EVERYONE even the haters because they must have many good points. No-one is 100% bad.
I honestly do understand that some people get upset more easily than others but we in general are not to know what ruffles individual GNer's feathers.
They may just be having a tough time...it could be anything.
I am never ruffled and dislike no-one regardless of what they might say.
I was born without a ruffling gene.

What a strange post! Being overweight, even morbidly obese, isn't a crime. I wonder why Gabriella is so upset, offended or repulsed by it? Everybody needs to eat too. Those of us lucky enough to be thin aren't always sensible eaters either. Very odd!

Virgin Money obviously finance their OTT office through ripping off their customers, how else? I'd find it very offputting to be in such (unnecessary) luxurious surroundings myself.

Lemon, if the swearing was aimed at me, them I will tell you why,, you may not like it but I do swear in RL not excessively, not at work,and not in front of children. It is disruptive. I do not have to justify myself.
Gabriella spoke about a subject that is contentious, it upsets alot of people, and in my opinion someones weight is their own business. These people do not need to be commented on or gawped at . So if you are offended be offended about that. Also if you want the thread pulled do it for the right reasons, those being that it is not necessary to discuss peoples weight.
Also let's remember Jesy Nelson in the documentary who nearly took her life as people were commenting about her weight and appearance.

Am overweight myself, but hope we can never become so blinded by PC that we can’t see it for the problem that it is.

The example given that it would be alright to comment on the number of ethnic people. Why would you.
As far as I am concerned it is rude and racist.
My partner of many years is West Indian, he came to Britain in his twenties, his son was born over here and is British , why should he be singled out as a ethnic, he is as British as you or I.

Remarking on how many ethnic people there are is rude and racist because you do not know the persons nationality you are going by the colour of the skin, also why would it enter your head to do it.
The same with people who are obese, why single them out? We do not do this to people who are skinny and under weight and that us not healthy either.

I was talking about persons unknown to me. Their lifestyles are their own business but do please let me know if you are one of the 4 people in tge world who have never, when watching a film or tv programme, (especially BGT and the ubiquitous reality shows which are ripe for bitchy comments) uttered critical words such as 'Have you seen her hair?' He's a pig' 'That dress is far too tight on her, she looks like a split sausage' and worse.
I've heard unbelievable criticisms of other racegoers at race meetings.
Anyway, let's be nice to each other but truthful at all times.

On that we do agree, why would you comment about how many ethnic people there are without knowing the background. It's the same for obese people how do we know the circumstances they live with.
As a side I have never made personal comments about the OP and for what it is worth I have never had a problem with her posts so don't agree with the personnel comments. I just don't agree with this one.
Previous poster has told us things about her personnel life as have alot of Grans and I was happy and proud to talk about my circumstances and was quite offended someone needed to say about discussing how many ethnicsthere are.
Also I don't agree about being PC it is just about being decent to other people and respecting their feelings.

I will not apologise for the swearing though as I do sometimes do this in real life. You may not like me for this, so be it, as you say Gabriella we are all different in how we live and cope with things.
