Welcome to all...it's good to have your company. You are special peoples. flowers sunshine wine cupcake smile

What a thoughtless, insensitive remark, ann. I wish I could give that neighbour a piece of my mind. You have friends here and we know what you have gone through which you will never forget and will always be a part of you. We know your courage and we know that there will always be a big gap in your life. How can it be otherwise? For you, and Maw and others like you, every day is a kind of anniversary. Today is special and you must have many happy memories as well as your sense of loss.
It's a beautiful morning now and our thoughts have to be with those poor souls in Whaley Bridge who have woken up wondering if they still have homes.
I'm off to Yorkshire this morning and then Scotland for a week, looking forward to meeting my almost new great nephew and niece, now a month old and flourishing.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 02-Aug-19 09:55:27

annsixty I am sorry that you have been on the receiving end of such a thoughtless remark. Be kind to yourself today ??

Charleygirl good luck with the dentist, I think you are not on your own with disliking them (I am petrified)

Thinking of morethan and her family, life is so precious and when a loved one is so poorly it is such a terrible strain on the whole family ???

Soop I hope you are taking things easy.

Panache I hope you manage with the "stockings"

We are off to Southend this morning with a GC and their scooter, to walk the length (scoot) the pier, I hope the tea shop is open at the end brew.

annsixty Fri 02-Aug-19 10:07:24

Just had a long chat with my D and I was able to tell her I am ok.
Yesterday was worse than today.
My GC are off to Bermuda at lunchtime to stay with their Father for two and a half weeks so I am going to stay wth her next week, that will be good.
Only five nights we are too similar to spend too much time together, and I am quite particular in the house, she, ahem, is not!!
She has a dog and three cats, nuff said.
It is a beautiful sunny day and my thoughts are with the flood victims and the good folk of Whaley Bridge, very near here,
who are in temporary accommodation until their homes are safe, or possibly ruined.
I cannot imagine that.

kittylester Fri 02-Aug-19 11:09:19

I am thinking of those in Whaley Bridge too. At least the people are safe but heaven knows what they will go home to. It will be quite scary every time it rains now, whatever happens.

My Aunt and Uncle lived in Hazel Grove for many years and we always travelled up the A6 from Derby when we went to visit so Whaley Bridge and Chapel en le Frith feel like part of my history.

Ann, I hope today is full of happy memories for you. flowers

I asked up thread whether anyone knows where Maw is. Did I miss a post about holiday plans?

I quite like my previous dentist except when he snores grin but feel sorry for the current one whenever I go in. Dentist's wives must be slightly scarier that dentists to have as patients.

We are having quite a strange time at Lester Towers. The Arsenal is playing silly buggers again but so are 2 of DH's brothers - one is 79 and one is 81 (both going on 15!!) The brother who was fairly recently stuck in a French hospital with a chest infection has started smoking again (after 25 years) and the other one believes he is a gift to the female of the species! confused

And, DH has just gone to collect 2 DGC! I'll just sit in that quiet dark corner till it's all over.

It's never dull round here. I'll try to get back later for some sanity!!

Nannytopsy Fri 02-Aug-19 12:04:39

Kitty you made me laugh! 17 of my family are meeting at my nephew’s tomorrow for fun and frolics and rather a lot of home distilled gin. We are nearly all staying the night so I think Sunday morning might be subdued grin

dragonfly46 Fri 02-Aug-19 12:10:27

Oh Kitty what a family you have. I gather brother from France got back safely but obviously has a death wish. I guess we had better steer clear when other brother is around!

Hope you have a great Saturday Topsy.

It is very quiet here by comparison.

kittylester Fri 02-Aug-19 12:23:06

Topsy, I'd love to be a fly on the wall at that event!! We'll be quiet on Sunday - promise!!

dragonfly, he has just dumped a 46 year old for a 44 year old so I think younger models.

eilyann Fri 02-Aug-19 14:15:41

So many prayers and good thoughts to morethan and all her family. So much worse when small children are involved.morethan will need so much strength.
Also thinking of the people of Whalley Bridge. Parts of our small town were flooded and some people had to be evacuated, some for second time in 3 years. We were lucky, only the garden got hit but plants can be replaced a lot more easily than whole houses. DH and I were musing about what we would take in the event of being told you have minutes to leave.....Tricky

soop Fri 02-Aug-19 14:37:12

Just a quick visit before we leave to water our pal's vegetables and house plants in their absence.

I was flabberghasted when I read of the so-called friend of Ann's comment. Had I been standing beside Ann, I would have had something unprintable to say to that person. flowers

Back a little later. Try to keep out of mischief. wink

Galen Fri 02-Aug-19 14:41:18

Doodle Fri 02-Aug-19 14:55:18

GrannyGravy13 Fri 02-Aug-19 15:13:48

I will really miss Maw, send her my best wishes please Galen if you are in touch.

dragonfly46 Fri 02-Aug-19 15:19:23

Kitty I am so disappointed!! grin

Oh so sorry to hear Maw has deregistered. Hope she comes back soon.
Please send her my best wishes.

annsixty Fri 02-Aug-19 15:28:13

To be honest,she usually does.

Panache Fri 02-Aug-19 15:32:58

There are times in life when you simply cannot believe someone said a certain something and that certainly happened to you when you were at your most vulnerable Ann.Hard to believe how very insensitive some folk can be and I can only trust that you are strong enough yet again to overcome. However, if only folk would think twice before opening their mouths then hopefully these upsets would not happen.

Whilst we continue to be bathed in the warmest sunshine it is hard to believe how others ....not a million miles away.... are suffering in such a way.It must be heart breaking being kept out of one`s home, knowing the extent of the issue and of course the very real fear of what might very well happen.
Our weather is playing up all over the world causing such unrest and worries, but of course when nearer to one`s own home, it well and truly has us all sitting up eagerly watching for the latest news, hoping and praying for real relief.

I think a quiet room with a cool flannel wrapped around your forehead might do the trick Kitty..........such a lot going on up there!!

Another little job completed,I now have a side table lamp on our kitchen window, and with every single item taking quite a lot to achieve, it gives my dear man such satisfaction when completed.
This apartment does not have an abundance of power points but since I love my table lamps, it has caused us a headache to get sorted without any over loading. But where there is a will there is always a way!!!

Tales from another Garage sale to follow .......and judging by last Saturday`s non event there will not be a lot to share!!

Love and blessings to you all, thinking especially of you and your family Morethan

dragonfly46 Fri 02-Aug-19 15:36:57

Great to hear from you again Panache.

Synonymous Fri 02-Aug-19 15:50:01

Ann Yet another insensitive remark! I think you need to come back with "Oh, how cruel" when you are spoken to in that vein - or whatever you decide is your choice.because you need to have something in place given all that you are coping with and these people need to put their brains in gear. Grr!!
I hope you have a lovely day and try to remember all the happy times with your DH, so many years and so many memories! flowers

Kitty you made me laugh out loud. grin

Galen if you are in touch with dear Maw please give her my love and I hope all is as well with her as can be.

Carillion01 Fri 02-Aug-19 16:23:03

Galen if you have any contact with Maw please pass on my good wishes, hope she comes back soon. She was very kind to me when I joined Gransnet and I haven't forgotten. Thank you

cornergran Fri 02-Aug-19 16:54:21

I’m sorry to pop in to see that maw has backed away from GN. If you are able galen, please do pass on my love, I miss her.

Hope your dental visit was manageable charley, our dentist has moved on so we have been reallocated. Can’t say I’m looking forward to training the new one.

Oh families kitty. I sometimes think I’ve been blessed by having no siblimgs, reduces the hassle factor if it can be lonely at times.

Good to have a visit to look forward to Ann, 5 days sounds about right. I’m an odd bod, never that comfortable in another’s home, no matter how close the relationship. Usually I manage a maximum of three nights. Good job our lot are used to me.

Frustrated today as oh so many telephone calls this morning, one for 90 minutes, meant I didn’t get through this mornings list. Changed our afternoon food shop plans as a son messaged to say he’d be here, seemed not enough time to do more of what I should have done earlier. Now it seems he won’t be here after all because the motorway is being unhelpful. Not his fault but it feels like I’ve wasted time. Oh well, there are worse things in the world, I’ll grumble away now. .

Message for Maw...haste ye back - us lot love you.

Thank you, Panache, you are a champion scribe. You never fail to mention every one of the Granspals. I do admire you.

Today I've been busy doing stuff all over the place. It's sunny and very warm. I need to change into looser clothing as I'm over-heating.

The washing machine hasn't been emptied. Tonight's meal hasn't been prepared. Let's say...it's been one of those days. We all have them.

I have nothing planned for tomorrow. With luck, I hope to join you in our kitchen and bring myself up to date.

Please be assured that I am TOYA. You remain among my most favourite peoples. smile moon

Here is last night's sunset.

NanaandGrampy Fri 02-Aug-19 17:26:35

Evening all,

Been a lovely day here today . and the evening is looking nice too.

Sorry to hear the words of your thoughtless friend Ann , who needs friends like that eh? Your trip sounds like just the ticket .

You have my undying sympathy Charley you know how I feel about dentists so I feel for you. I am now gloomily counting down the days to my procedure on Tuesday.

Do you need the leg of lamb Kitty I have it to hand in case...…

Sorry to hear Maw has left - as Ann says she has been reincarnated a few times, so hopefully she will return .

We spent an entertaining afternoon watching the farmer cut down 'our' field. He obliging did the ditch too ( so plenty of space in there now Kitty lol. He must think we're a right pair as we sat on our garden chairs with the camera !! We're easily pleased. Ive added a couple of picture s.

Have a lovely evening all.

Charleygirl5 Fri 02-Aug-19 18:51:29

corner and N&G* I survived. No injection today- white filling placed over old but if there is a future problem I will need a crown. He xrayed half of my top lot and discovered a huge decay in the canine tooth. He had not seen such a large decay which did not affect the patient. He said it would have to be removed if it bothered me. I am sure I would need a dental implant because of where it is. Maybe I should return to work.

I parked in Sainbury's car park and thought it was free for 2 hours but it was 90 minutes. I was a couple of minutes over so I do not know if I will receive a ticket. I should remain at home in future I think, it is cheaper.

I have washed for my local area- where does it come from?

I am so very sorry that Maw has left us. I love her sense of humour, and her really thoughtful and interesting posts. Most of all she has given me such personal support knowing that DH has a life limiting illness. Galen if you are in touch with Maw please give her my love and thanks. I so hope she will feel able to return to the kitchen.
