Its ten to one and I've just sat down.I spent the last three hours helping my OH to move furniture from his office downstairs to his "new" office upstairs .Thats several cabinets and filing cabinets two desks ,a safe ,computers and all the "stuff that was in the drawers and cupboards .THEN I tidied the kitchen cleaned the cats litter trays put on a washing and changed the curtains in my GD's bedroom.I wouldn't get half as much done in the day because of phone interuptions or my AC calling in for a blether and of course work although its just part time now.
A hot drink and a look at the laptop where there are messages from clients looking for prints asap .I considered looking out the files ....if I leave it until the morning I may get caught up in the madness of Wednesday which is always the busiest day for phone calls .Anyone else find nightime the best time to get things done ?

No, I am the other end of the spectrum, awake at stupid o’clock most mornings. Everything I get done early is constrained only by noise level. No furniture moving but the cats have a very early breakfast.

I woke at 4 this morning, usually I get a ‘ lie in‘ til at least 5.
Wish I coukd sleep through til 6, but that never happens. Therefore I am yawning at 9 pm and in my bed by 10.30 latest, so not a night owl.
Any advice anyone? Or are you all, except blue belle, still asleep? Zzzzz

stella1949 Wed 26-Jun-19 05:30:12

Always. Last night I had insomnia, so overnight I did all the washing and hung it out, baked a banana cake, unloaded the dishwasher and cleaned the bathroom. Normal for me at night !

BradfordLass72 Wed 26-Jun-19 05:36:09

silverlining I am now just like you.
I always was a Lark.

However, when I was at college I used to be able to work right through the night on my axonometric and isometric drawings and found I did some of my best work when everyone but me was in bed and the house was silent.

After I got home from my studies, I'd make tea, look after the children from school and see to all the attendant domestic works, go to my cleaning job at night and still pop up fresh to make breakfast at 6 the next morning.

Now, thank goodness, it's only me and if I have a lie-in (and I have to be very, very tired to do so) it's until 7am. After that, I'm itching to get up and get going.

On Friday, I am being collected at 3:30 am (not an unusual occurrence) to take part in a Dawn Blessing, this time for Matariki.

I was supposed to be taking part in a fundraising Trivia evening on Thursday and wouldn't be home until midnight, so was beginning to think it would be pointless going to bed. But the woman who said she'd take me, has just given backword. sad I'm quite disappointed as I love trivia but kei te pai, thems the breaks.

I feel cross if I sleep later than around 5.30 and I've often only gone to sleep around midnight. The ideas flow best when I first awaken. Often I wake up with a solution to something I'd been puzzling over. However, paddyann I could not have done what you accomplished last night! . Just the sheer physical effort! You should take care!

Bradfordlass what is a trivia event?

craftyone Wed 26-Jun-19 06:04:10

Like Ginny, I often wake up with a solution to a problem, sleeping on it works for me. Awake by 5.30 every morning and energetic from 7 to 1, then the slump, either a doze or something relaxing like reading or just tidying a drawer but nothing energetic. Bed at 10 to listen to something for 30 minutes with an auto switch off and the cycle starts again. I know my circadian cycle

Whitewavemark2 Wed 26-Jun-19 06:16:03

craftyone that is exactly my cycle. Really everything useful has to be accomplished by lunch, I even aim to prepare the evening meal by then as well, because by 5pm I’m practically comatose

FarNorth Wed 26-Jun-19 06:36:14

I'm a night person too, most likely to start doing something when I really should be going to bed, usually after much procrastination (see other thread smile).
It's really unusual for me to be up this early (just didn't seem to sleep last night) but I do like to see the early morning.

Katyj Wed 26-Jun-19 06:45:54

I'll swap with you Paddyann, I'm awake at 4 am and asleep by 9pm it's very annoying !

Sara65 Wed 26-Jun-19 06:46:28

I’m the same, I race around before I go to work, packed lunches, often prepare supper, bring in logs and clean fires out, peg washing, vacuum around, pay bills etc

When I get home I’m fit for nothing!

Whitewavemark2 Wed 26-Jun-19 07:18:49

sara when I worked that is exactly me? I live on the south coast and used to occasionally work in France, so those days included up at between 4|4.30 am, walk the dog as well as all the other jobs . Then drive to the Channel Tunnel M23, M26 M 20 then France. Looking back I’m not sure how I did it.

Esther1 Wed 26-Jun-19 07:26:54

I am definitely a lark. Awake around 5.30 but then I need to go to bed at 9 pm. I am awake a bit in the night too. Hey Ho. Sometimes I think it goes back to having babies on 4 hourly feeds - I can never seem to sleep for longer at a time.

Sara65 Wed 26-Jun-19 07:28:12

Whitewavemark2

I’m not sure how you did it either!
I think you’ve earned your retirement, are you still a busy person?

Urmstongran Wed 26-Jun-19 08:27:19

Oh my. All you energetic ladies at either end of the day! I feel like a sloth in comparison.... so I shan’t contribute anything ha!

I used to be an owl. We had a pub and restaurant for seven years so never went to bed before midnight but nowadays I'm a lark. Get as much done as possible before 5pm then crash!

Apart from tidying the kitchen and folding laundry I do absolutely nothing in the evenings other than reading, watching telly or going online. That's how I recharge my battery!

Go to bed at around 11.30 and sleep like a log - other than a loo visit around 4am.

sodapop Wed 26-Jun-19 08:38:13

Me too Urmstongran didn't realise how lazy I was grin

Urmstongran Wed 26-Jun-19 08:59:11

sodapop ??

annep1 Wed 26-Jun-19 09:00:25

I've never had the energy to work during the night. Read maybe. Although once I changed my bedroom furniture round as I couldn't see the door from where I was lying.
Paddyann I don't know how you do all that. I could never achieve that much. Maybe you're younger - I'm 68. I do have a health condition and tend to do jobs when I feel able but never that late. Although I think its wonderful to have such energy you do seem to be burning the candle at both ends.

MiniMoon Wed 26-Jun-19 09:54:52

The last few years of my working life I did night shift. If I had my way I would do all my work, cleaning, washing etc., in the evening but DH is a lark. He's up and out at 04:00 therefore I feel unable to do anything noisy at night. I only got up 40 minutes ago but I have emptied the dishwasher ?.

Jane10 Wed 26-Jun-19 10:18:43

I'm a lark. Always have been. I really struggle with evening activities even on holiday it's dinner then off to bed. Parties and evening social events are a sore trial for me. Poor DH!
It's nothing new though. I worked out early on that I'd rather get up early and study rather than try to work in the evening.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 26-Jun-19 10:25:08

sara ?? no I entirely please myself now. I retired at 60 am now 73 - where has the time gone? it is frightening

paddyann Wed 26-Jun-19 11:26:23

AnepplI'm 65 I've always done stuff late at night so its not new.On Saturday night I made and decorated a two tier cake for my SIL's wedding anniversary on Sunday finished it around 2am.I used to walk our dogs in the middle of the night and its a long time since we last had a dog so I need to do something else.I still work part time and help my daughter with children and bed changing and stuff...I guess I'm just lucky .I thought there must be other folk who work on the same timeclock ..it cant just be me .

crazyH Wed 26-Jun-19 11:29:32

I am an owl.....never asleep before 1- 1.30 a.m.

gillybob Wed 26-Jun-19 11:39:38

A bit like paddyann I often do the craziest things at night. I have an urge to move furniture around, change curtains, clean the bathroom, make tomorrows dinner etc. I'm almost always at work during the day so doing stuff at night makes sense.
