This is totally ridiculous as a news headline. Can't a couple have a row without the world knowing. I'm not a Boris fan but this is out of order imo.

Callistemon Sun 23-Jun-19 11:41:37

You're OK to run for PM, then, I'll vote for you!!
grin

polnan Sun 23-Jun-19 11:43:49

lol 8 pages here.... so it does create a "conversation"

I think it is/was politically motivated...

that is my opinion.

Anniebach Sun 23-Jun-19 11:44:37

Thank you but no thanks Callistemon , leave Wales!

Luckygirl Sun 23-Jun-19 11:44:49

It is heartening that BJ's poll rating has gone down - but that just leaves us with JH, the NHS-wrecker. I will never forgive him for the political manipulation of the junior doctors. But at least he seems passingly sane - wrong, but sane. God help us all!

The Grauniad doesn’t pay for stories. Had t got any money. The people living there are wealthy as are Boris and his tottie, both benefitting from family money . I don’t see how that makes them any worse than Boris.

GabriellaG54 Sun 23-Jun-19 11:55:12

Scenario.
They both have a glass of wine or two.
He spills some on her sofa.
She goes mad and accused him if being careless with other people's possessions and calls him spoilt.
He tries to calm her down in measured tones.
She starts throwing plate(s) and glass(es) at him.
He tries to restrain her.
She shouts 'Get off me, get out of my flat'.
She then grabs his laptop.
He then raises his voice and shouts 'Get off my f**** laptop'.

His fault or her fault?
Nothing unusual except for the nosey neighbour.
Boris was apparently not shouting until she grabbed his laptop.
Out of 10 on a scale of culpability:
Carrie: 8
Boris: 2

The neighbours admit to being left wing and hating Boris and the Tories. Yes, Boris and his partner should be more discrete but it makes you wonder if left wing newspapers are (paying) or at least encouraging people to dig up dirt.

Tillybelle Sun 23-Jun-19 11:57:04

Anniebach. Yes a non story is a good way of putting it.

I thought someone might raise this on GNet.

I add my voice to those who say it is an invasion of privacy. What kind of person puts a recording microphone against a neighbour's wall when a couple are having an argument? Then sends their recording to the Guardian? What an utter revolting creep!

Maybe if one is worried, one should call the Police since we could not know if someone were in danger. However, to make a news story out of an event that proved innocuous is pure spite. `Very nasty indeed.

And I am not a Tory supporter.

We should simply listen to the Police report on the matter: having been called, they found;

" all safe and well. There were no offences or concerns apparent to the officers and there was no cause for police action.”

No more to be said.

Callistemon Sun 23-Jun-19 11:57:33

but he chose her (and left his wife for her).
That shows lack of judgement.

Callistemon Sun 23-Jun-19 11:57:55

That post was in answer to Gabriella

janeainsworth Sun 23-Jun-19 11:58:28

I don’t want to be PM but do I have the right to criticise those who have done the same
No one is criticising Boris for drinking too much or swearing annie.

They are criticising him for his lack of judgement and lack of self-control in having a loud, abusive argument with his g/f at 1 o’clock in the morning and questioning his suitability for the office of Prime Minister.
It’s nothing to do with your drinking or smoking habits.
When someone puts himself forward for high public office, we do have the right to judge and criticise and Boris will be well aware of that fact, which makes his arrogance all the more angering.
But I agree with whitewave that the most worrying aspect is his association with Bannon and Farage.

Stella14 Sun 23-Jun-19 12:01:55

Wow! I’m stunned that so many gransnetters would see this as a ‘non-story’. Two women are killed every week in the UK by their partner, or former partner. The neighbours didn’t just here a row. They heard banging, crashing, his partner screaming, then shouting “get off me”, and later “get out” (of her flat) and him refusing. They discussed how concerned they should be. They went around to the flat and knocked. There was no reply. It continued. They went and knocked twice more. Still no reply, so they started recording (as people often do to provide evidence of a potential crime) and called the Police. Contrary to what Johnson’s defenders say, the Police have not said everything was fine and no crime was committed, they said that they spoke to both parties, who told them ‘everything was fine’, so there was no evidence APPARENT to them of an offence. This happens all the time in cases of domestic abuse.

In short, that wasn’t a normal row. Normal rows don’t generally involve screaming and shouting “get off me”.

annsixty Sun 23-Jun-19 12:05:02

I totally agree with that post janea it does show lack of judgement and self control.
Someone up thread pointed out he left his wife for her. I believe he left his first wife for his second, definitely not a stayer.

Anniebach Sun 23-Jun-19 12:06:29

janeainsworth drinking and having a snort years ago has been brought up in this thread . I question criticising anyone who has done the same (I didn’t snort). His infidelities I feel I can criticise

Callistemon Sun 23-Jun-19 12:07:15

It's not just women who are victims of domestic abuse, Stella14.

Normal rows don’t generally involve screaming and shouting “get off me”.
unless he was trying to stop her throwing things at him (crashing crockery, banging noises) and hitting him.

GabriellaG54 Sun 23-Jun-19 12:13:42

There is a distinct line between abuse and a row over spilt wine.
Both may have had more than one glass of wine and who wouldn't go mad if wine was spilt.
Of course it depends on how much was spilt and if the sofa was a pale colour and/or new.
I'm always wary of friends gesturing when holding a glass of red as the carpets and my sofa are cream but I have insurance...as you do.
It's made out to be much more than a spat over a spillage.
Boris will recover.
He was not the one who initially raised his voice and threw stuff...according to all I've read.
This happens innumerable times all around the world every day, even to CEOs of huge consortiums and financial behemoths, who are not relieved of their positions by shareholders believing domestic hiccups impact on their ability to fulfil their roles.

Stella14 Sun 23-Jun-19 12:16:24

Oh yes, and to those who say the neighbours were seeking to make more by selling the story. Clearly, that is not the case since they gave it to the only paper that does not pay for stories (The Guardian)! They state that they gave it to them because they feel it is in the public interest since he is running for Prime Minister. This man has a history of showing that his values include seeing women as objects, racism, sexism, irresponsibility in respect if his relationships and his children. The character a person has in their private life, is the same character they have when making policy in government.

GabriellaG54 Sun 23-Jun-19 12:19:16

As for Boris not being a stayer
Is it ok to then call out any GNer who has had multiple marriages (and there are plenty) and maybe an illegitimate child and/or lover?
I doubt it.
The post would be deleted.
People should not point fingers if they themselves have dirty hands.

GabriellaG54 Sun 23-Jun-19 12:22:49

crystaltipps
Their ages have nothing to do with it whatsoever.

annsixty Sun 23-Jun-19 12:35:05

It is not the multiple marriages I pointed out GG54 it was that he left 2 wives to move on.
And no I do not have dirty hands, I stayed in one marriage for over 60 years, it ended when my H died 9 weeks ago.
How very dare you.

Beckett Sun 23-Jun-19 12:35:13

A lot is being made of her shouting "get off me". It reminds me of a time some years ago when DH and I were waiting to board a plane. A couple next to us were having an argument. He said something along the lines of they were on holiday so why not forget it and just enjoy themselves, he then picked up her hand. She shouted at the top of her voice "get off me".

There are a number of different scenarios where these words could have been used - it isn't necessarily the one where he was attacking her.

We have no way of knowing exactly what happened and there is a lot of guessing going on. Unless one of them decides to give a detailed account, and why should they, we will never know.

Callistemon Sun 23-Jun-19 12:41:54

Unless one of them decides to give a detailed account,
Wait until they split up.
I can't see him spilling the beans but wonder if she might?

grannygranby Sun 23-Jun-19 12:52:15

really! I'm glad they put their smartphone to the wall after phoning the police. This is after midnight not paper thin walls - victorian substantial residence (obviously!) and woman screaming 'get off - get out of my flat'. AND supposed to be next PM? Too right it should be reported. I think you are all mad to defend him as a human being let alone someone with the highest power in the land. Do you not take domestic abuse seriously? Do you not have disdain for 55 year old man dumping his wife for woman 25 years his junior...is she to be our first lady? A man who wont even acknowledge all of his illegitimate children? what is it that makes people think he is worthy? What is it that makes people want him as a leader? What is it that makes people defend him to the ends of the earth. At what point would they say...perhaps not?

GabriellaG54 Sun 23-Jun-19 12:54:10

annsixty
Had you read my post properly, you would realise that I referred to people who have 'dirty hands' pointing a finger, in other words, if one is 'guilty' (and I use that word advisedly) of moving on to another partner before properly ending one relationship or marriage yet feel it's ok to castigate Boris for doing just that.
As that doesn't apply to you then obviously I'm not talking about you or anyone who has not, in the past, emulated Boris's modus operandi.
Please read and digest comments before loading the bullets.

Stella14 Sun 23-Jun-19 12:57:02

Callistemon - I am well aware that men are also victims of domestic violence, and your point is?
