Beautiful sunny morning with us. DH going to the local NT property this morning to catch up with some other volunteers and work on the archive.
I've had trouble with my back for years and had a very skilled lovely consultant during that time. I get on with most people, always have done, however I didn't take to his replacement. I had an appointment to see him on July 31, yesterday I had a letter to say that this appointment was cancelled " due to unforeseen circumstances " and giving me a new appointment on Feb 6, 2020. Such a shock, I don't mind saying that I cried and I don't cry easily. Sorry, rant over.
The photo of Sam cheered me up so much, he's a beauty. Hope his paw is better soon.
I echo all the comments about the trial Maw and applaud your honesty, wouldn't have expected anything else from you. I went through a very dark year 1995/6 when I injured my back and a number of doctors failed to find the source of the pain. I had many periods when, if on my own, I wouldn't have wanted to go on, my family were my lifeline. So many here in the kitchen will recognise such a scenario.

The Panaches are moving on Friday. Hope all goes well for them.

Good morning everyone, Maw and GrannyGravy and anyone who has been treated unkindly or unfairly recently.

I only joined the forum a couple of weeks ago but have been overwhelmed by the kindness I've received and have read about. I've found a wonderful comfort in the company but have to admit I've stopped reading some threads which make me unhappy or worried.

In my working life I spent much of my time diffusing discomfort some felt especially if they had been suffering from an element of bullying in the workplace and there's no more room in my life for it now. Avoiding confrontation is not being weak, it's an inner strength and ...as I have witnessed on this kindly place to be...has real dignity, so thank you Maw, GG and all.

Oh blimey lins, that’s a serious postponement. I’ve no real idea how it can be challenged other than via PALS or a call to the consultants Secretary but I’m sure others will. No, you shouldn’t have to and I’m sure you don’t feel like it but it sounds as if you do need that appointment. I’m so sorry, chronic pain is incredibly debilitating. .

Lins1066 echoing that comment, I too would take up that postponement with PALS or the Consultant’s secretary if approachable.
You are more than a number in the system to be put to the bottom of the pile because the Consultant is (possibly) at Wimbledon/daughter’s wedding/on holiday.

(I did have a similar situation with Paw when one (already) postponed appointment was also postponed which created a total wait of just under a year. In his case I emailed the IBD nurses who were very helpful)

I agree, the consultant's secretary is the first port of call, then PALS and if that does not work I would find out the name of chief executive and write to him/her. They may have another title now. Then your GP to perhaps start again with somebody different.

That is a ridiculous time for anybody to wait and one who is in pain it is just not on.

Tomorrow will be hot for the Panaches but at least it will not be a monsoon. They should both sleep well tomorrow night!

Oh that’s shocking Lins and you must certainly take action. I have always found PALS to be helpful but a letter to the CE might help too so that the admin that handles these kind of cancellations is dealt with more sensibly. If you have a sympathetic GP you could try her/him too.

If Panache has time to read Gransnet I wish them both all the very best with their move tomorrow. I hope it doesn’t take too long to settle in and hope we hear from Mrs Panache again soon, ???

Lins it is worth trying all avenues, Consultants Sec, GP and PALS maybe even your local GP.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I hate making a fuss and fortunately I've never had to before. However a deferment of 7 months is really beyond the pail. My Dil is a hospital doctor and she often says that if patients don't make a fuss, nothing will be done. I won't accept this though and will follow it up. I don't know what PALS is?? Our NHS is devolved here in Wales.

It is the most beautiful day and I've put two loads of washing on the line, with plenty of pegs otherwise said washing will be blown to North Devon! We are opposite Lynton and Lynmouth. I love it when the coast is clear and we can see over, it is 16 miles across.

Carillion I know what you mean about the threads. I have looked at some recently and have begun a perfectly innocuous comment only to delete it for fear of - well, I don't know what really. Having had one nasty pm recently, I'm staying well away. That was a light hearted thread too Maw.
There is a large bowl of strawberries and some clotted cream on the kitchen table, as we say in these parts - Joio!

Lins. PALS stands for something like Patient Advice and Liaison Service. I know it’s available in South Wales as we sought their help for a friend in hospital in Talbot Green. They were immediately helpful. Perhaps have a look on the hospital web site? I’m delighted you’ll challenge the ridiculous delay. Wishing you well.

Am I pleased to be home again? Yay! It was a long, hot ironing session, and we have dark choc Magnums in the freezer in readiness for a late afternoon treat.

Maw Please don't tell me that you have been cage-rattling. I left strict instructions for you to retreat into the safety zone of our kitchen. So, yes, I'm concerned to hear otherwise.

It’s a lovely day here in Derbyshire where I am on Grandma duty. School pick up in half an hour then football training this evening.

Hello kitcheners. Well the sun is out with a vengeance today and there’s nowhere to hide! I have been tied to the kitchen on and off most of the day pre-preparing lunch for tomorrow when my best friend is risking her health eating with us! I hope we will be able to sit in the garden but it will need to be a bit cooler! Complaining? Me? Well, yes, a bit! I’m sure there will be enough pineapple upside down cake left to leave a bit in the kitchen.

Lins I don’t like making a fuss either, but in this case I wouldn’t hesitate. Get in touch with his secretary first and ask if there is a good reason why they cancelled your appointment and why, if he can’t see you sooner than that, he can’t refer you to someone who is prepared to see you sooner. If not, as others have suggested contact the Patient Advisory and Liaison Service. I do hope you manage to get a satisfactory outcome.

Alygran I have reservoir envy. I was supposed to be out there yesterday fishing but had to postpone it as my hip was giving me gip after swimming on Tuesday, and I didn’t fancy being on my feet for hours! I’m pleased to see from your lovely photos that the water levels have dropped so there will at least be some bank to stand on when I do go. Glad you had a good morning out.

Ann I hope your GD’s throat is better soon - there are few things more debilitating.?

We sat on out "terrace" for thirty minutes. We ate the dark choc Magnums. We began to feel slightly overcome with the heat of the sun reaching just over 90F. Back in the cool of indoors. There isn't a hint of a wisp of a cloud in the bright blue sky. The sea is flat calm. A fabulous day in every way.

Care home visit in the morning. I hope to call into our kitchen when we return early afternoon. I, like many of us lot, will be sending good-will vibes to the Panaches. Bless them both.
