Well, the recent period of good weather prompted a mini flurry of Spring activity here smile

I shaved my legs (had to be done in the bath, can't do that "flamingo" thing in the shower) toenails painted (by MR P, he can get nearer to them than me, and as long as he has his glasses on and good lighting, the result isn't too bad wink

I even found and i*on#d my cropped trousers shock (after checking to see if they still fitted, of course, no point wasting energy!

So, so all ready and good to go!

Except it is now dull, overcast and a tad chilly................sad

I only shave what will show, so really unless I’m going somewhere hot my legs etc never get fully shaved. No point in wasting good gardening time?

I’m off for a day trip to the seaside this weekend. Put on last year’s pretty sandals but don’t remember them being so uncomfortable then!

blondenana Sat 25-May-19 09:47:06

Charleygirl same here, hot water bottle.and thick quilt, always prepared for the cold, but been gorgeous all week, sun is struggling this morning
It always annoys me that this part of the country on the weather map is a lower temperature than anywhere else, but has been much hotter than forecast,

I have "veins" showing on my ankles!! any cure for them? I would so love to wear capri trousers HELP?

nipsmum Sat 25-May-19 10:41:48

Like you Phoenix. Except I use an electric razor on the legs. Once I have worn the cropped trousers I refuse to wear full length ones until at least Sept. If it's chilly , you soon get used to it.

Phoenix that reminds me of many years ago when I was trying on jeans in a shop that had small individual changing rooms with just curtains round . I was stood on one leg trying to get my other leg into the jeans when I fell through the curtain into the shop. Good job I was wearing nice knickers !

Beckett Sat 25-May-19 11:00:51

Well, I am old but if I don't shave my legs they look like I have had a transplant from a bear!

Beckett Sat 25-May-19 11:02:09

That was in reply to kittylester

I have had bald legs for many years, so don’t need to shave them. Shaving anything is verboten anyway, right now. It’s one of the long list of do’s and don’ts prior to my hip replacement operation, scheduled for next Thursday.
I hope that, before very long, I will be able to revisit the joys of cutting/painting my own toenails and wearing shoes with laces that I can tie myself.
As the song says, “You don’t know what you’ve got, ‘til it’s gone.” I deeply sympathise with those whose disabilities are permanent.

I've been wearing my (knee length) shorts for the last few weeks, lovely warm & sunny here in Devon. Some days I've had to put my light fleece on because of the wind my arms feel the cold, my legs don't . Summer quilt has been on the bed for last week or so. I'm making the most of the lovely weather sunshine

Sorry if we're hogging all the sun down here hmm

Poobar Sat 25-May-19 12:51:21

Not your fault at all. Suffolk Show next week, guaranteed to change the weather.

Mic74 Sat 25-May-19 12:55:30

that's one of the reasons I want my bath reinstated. cannot do those little things in the shower.

lmm6 Sat 25-May-19 13:45:15

Didn't buy any summer clothes last year and may not buy any this year except perhaps a couple of plain T-shirts. These days tend to buy skirts in charity shops - try to get good names and they look fine. Get fed up with trousers all winter so prefer skirts and dresses. A bit of nailvarnish on the toes, a bit of lipstick and ready to go..... with decent sunglasses which cover up a multitude of sins and are quite flattering. Ready in 15 minutes unlike the 60s when it took me most of the day - false eyelashes took about half an hour on their own.

Good luck with your hip ok Greengran. I had mine done 4 yrs ago, in retrospect it was a walk in the park and I got my life back. Tip: lots of cycling on a static bike was a huge help, plus 5 months of physio.

I am getting the first new knee in a month:'s time. Putting on my hard hat I will say that a lot of the success is due to the wonderful French health service, no waiting lists and so.much help and assistance. Reason for staying in France for most of u s retirees.

phoenix brilliant ?. Sunny today I shall enjoy my ?

BlueSapphire Sat 25-May-19 18:12:22

I need some cropped trousers, so will have to look at the M&S site for short ones as being only 5 foot nothing the 'normal' ones are full length on me. I put my winter clothes away on May Day bank holiday and declared summer. But I have yet to do my nails...although first day of wearing sandals today. And swapped to my summer 4.5 tog quilt first week in May too.

phoenix Sat 25-May-19 18:18:07

BlueSapphire have a look at Cotton Traders, their shorts may work as crops for you!

I'm 5'2, and their crops are just about ok, but would probably look better on someone taller!

Pittcity Sat 25-May-19 18:40:09

Phoenix, it's fine by me as I caught a bit too much sun today!!

Glammy57 Sat 25-May-19 20:47:34

An ideal husband- one who paints your toenails! Good to go, Phoenix.....?

Doodle Sat 25-May-19 20:48:32

Phoenix your crops are way too long
Your legs are short and somethings wrong

With trews too long your legs won’t tan
No sun gets seen, they’re pale and wan

Crops need to be up off the ground
Mid calf is best so most have found

What you will need to make it right
Is extra inches to your height

We’ll have a game of Tug of War
And pull and stretch you even more

Problem sorted, no longer too wee
We’ve stretched you out, you’re 6ft 3 ?

Doodle Sat 25-May-19 20:49:02

Sorry, not a patch on your ice cream ditty but the best I could do ?

SparklyGrandma Sat 25-May-19 20:52:15

Ironed, shock horror, pheonix ?

phoenix Sat 25-May-19 21:20:20

Sparkly Sorry for the offensive word, I can assure you it is a rare event!

Doodle

Thank you so much for your rhyme,

So kind of you to take the time,

My trews come to about mid shin,

Brushing against my milky skin

Hairless, but a little wan,

Should I consider some fake tan?

Not orange, just a subtle glow,

To take the edge off, don't you know,

To overdo it is a crime,

Not ridiculous, just sublime!

Resurgam123 Sat 25-May-19 22:19:24

I agree with Kitty .
There is big advantage about being older not to have to shave your legs.
