How do you put yours on?

Had a bra fitting the other day and the saleswoman was horrified to see that I put mine on by doing the back up then slipping the straps over my arms afterwards. Apparently you are supposed to put arms in first and then do the back up after but i find that almost impossible and it requires a lot of adjustment afterwards. Just wondered whether it's just me?

Slip arms through straps and fasten at the back, whilst leaning slightly forward. Stand up and make any adjustments as necessary.
I was taught this by a Bra Fitter many years ago.

That's how I do it buffy and for the same reason.

I have never been able to do a bra up at the back, even when I was young. I've always done it at the front and turned it.
DD was told by a bra fitter to put arms in lean forward slightly, so your baps are dangling and pull the cups around them, stand straight and fasten the back smile

Sorry Bufffy I didn't read your post.

Have none of you got front fastening bras?

TwiceAsNice Sat 18-May-19 07:52:48

I can’t do it up at the back either although my daughter can and tells me off. Do up at the front, twist around and pull straps up onto shoulders, then lift boobs into cups comfortably and final pull at the sides to make sure all is ok. I know fitters day do up at the back but I’ve never been able to manage it.

oldgaijin Sat 18-May-19 07:59:48

Yep, sling it round your middle, twizzle round then scoop up anything in it's way....a bit like a trawl net!

Glad it's not just me. The woman was quite appalled at the way I do it because it 'ruins' the bra if you don't put it on 'properly' which is arms first. But not only does this make it very hard for me to do up the back, it also means too much hoiking and rearranging and seems much less efficient so I will carry on as I am!

I hope you all realise these images are now burnt on my mind.
Every morning now I will have a picture of hundreds of "ageing women* hoicking, twisting, twizzling their bosoms into their bras before adjusting said bosoms to present to the public.

Auntieflo Sat 18-May-19 08:46:26

I had to think about this! I do mine up at the back, then put my arms through. Hoick straps up onto shoulders, arrange contents comfortably in cups, smooth any wrinkles
(in the material, not me) and away we go. smile

sodapop Sat 18-May-19 08:49:30

That made me laugh annsixty all the hoicking and twizzling, grin

No one was suggesting there was a right or wrong way BradfordLass just asking how we all contort ourselves every day to get dressed.

BlueSapphire Sat 18-May-19 09:06:32

Fasten at the front then twizzle it round, arms through and then make sure all is safely gathered in. Never been able to do it up at the back, and even more impossible now since I broke my shoulder.

Urmstongran Sat 18-May-19 09:13:53

Arms through the straps, lean forward to drop the boobs into the cups then stand up to fasten at the back.

bikergran Sat 18-May-19 09:13:54

Slip arms in, lean very much forward so boob drop into cups ...then fasten up at the back.

Oh a sketch book is needed for grans net, what with this and ermm what was the other thread I've forgot, but it entailed getting in various positions to do something, cant think what it was now.grin

Ha ha! Another twist and twizzler here. How are we shorter but generous bosomed ladies supposed to reach round the back? Our arms aren't long enough and we aren't double-jointed. No wonder it takes so long to get dressed of a morning.
Would men put up with this? No, I don't think we'll go there.
Hoicking them up! grin

Another twizzler here. However, there are times when my shoulders are too stiff to do the twizzling so I fasten it, step into it and wriggle it upwards.

I've always put my arms in the straps, and reached behind and did the clasps up ! Last year , I put my shoulder out, and the pain was horrific trying to get a bra on in my usual way, so I started buying stretch sports bras with no clasps at all.
The first one I tried, I couldn't get it over my head, I was in agony, it seemed far too small to go over my head and then struggle to get my arms through, with such a painful shoulder, and then I realised that I just needed to step into it, and pull it up, and it stretched and fitted without any problems.. it took the best part of the year for my shoulder to heal, but I'm sticking with the stretch sports bras now . No more fiddling with clasps !!

I certainly wouldn't! grin I'd get an expert (man) to solve it; I have enough trouble putting on my thongs, especially when my toes are sore! sad

Callistemon Sat 18-May-19 12:06:04

thongs have a different meaning in the UK, Rufus*!

we call them flip-flops over here

harrigran Sat 18-May-19 14:14:20

I fasten at the front and twist round to the back, never been able to do the behind the back thing.

GrandmaKT Sat 18-May-19 16:12:04

Ha ha! I'm so glad you explained that Callistemon! The mental image of Rufus struggling to put a thong on with his toes! grin

janipat Sat 18-May-19 18:07:43

Urmstongran you described how I do it exactly. Tried doing the fastening at the front once, couldn't twist it round to save my life!

Rufus2 Sun 19-May-19 10:39:43

The mental image of Rufus struggling to put a thong on with his toes.
No idea what your "thongs" look like; don't think I want to know either, but it can't be all that difficult surely? Perhaps I should practice with a willing young volunteer, but if my toes are not up to it we may be forced to use hand gestures. confused Now that would give your vivid imagination something to dwell on! grin OoRoo

When this was discussed on here a few years ago, someone posted to say they were in the middle of trying the twizzle method and had fastened it at the front but now couldn't get it twisted round at all, as the straps over their shoulders wouldn't let it move round, and what should they do next?
