soop Wed 17-Apr-19 18:54:01

Boy! It's been a full-on afternoon of comings and goings and a very long phone call from middle son.

I shall have time to pop into the kitchen early tomorrow morning. We shall then set off for Glasgow hospital appointment.

TOYA smile moon

Marydoll Wed 17-Apr-19 19:00:32

NanaandGrampy Wed 17-Apr-19 19:18:48

Evening all,

200 odd mile round trip completed !

I know I have my 12 yr old granddaughter here because :-

1. We stopped at Starbucks on the way where she ordered her own non coffee , covered in cream drink !

2. She asked to stop at the local asparagus farm where she chose fresh asparagus and strawberries as dinner accompaniments.

3. Dinner was not chicken and chippies or pizza, but pan fried salmon, asparagus, new potatoes - soon to be followed by strawberries and cream !!

4. I took a catnap on arriving home and she read her book !!1

I love the small boys but oh the difference !!!

Sorry to hear you're still waiting for answers Anneliese hope they are forthcoming soon !

Mawbroon SW really does work- Grampy is nearly 3 stone down and me 1 st 7lbs. I cant say I love it but it works.

Glad Fred is to be moved to his new abode anniebach if only to afford you some privacy :-)

I'm off to watch tv with the queen of the universe !! Happy days x

Doodle Wed 17-Apr-19 19:24:00

callgirl good news about your son. That must give you all a boost.
panache I am so sorry for your poor DH. With all the hospital appointments you both have I can only imagine how difficult it will be if he cannot drive. I am frustrated for you both. In this day and age we keep being told that people shouldn’t be in pain yet your poor DH seems to be suffering so much.
maw I am very much prepared to help you with your diet. Please send any unwanted cake, chocolate etc it my direction and I shall dispose of it very quickly to stop you being tempted ?
annie hope Fred will be happy in his new home. Hope he has his own bathroom facilities now he no longer has his nose (are you sure that was the right end ?) in yours ?

callgirl1 Wed 17-Apr-19 21:26:18

Best wishes for tomorrow to Soop and Marydoll, I hope you bump into one another, not literally though!

Greyduster Thu 18-Apr-19 09:55:58

Good morning, the kitchen. Hope all goes well for Soop and Marydoll with their appointments this morning, and callgirl I am very glad to hear the outlook for your DS is now better than it was. Good news indeed.

N&G your GD’s level of culinary sophistication puts her in the “woman after my own heart” category (as well as not wanting to get up early these mornings)! I spoke to my GS on Sunday evening before they came home from Paris and he informed me that they had just come back from dinner. “What did you have?” I asked him, expecting the usual roll call of junk food. “Confit of lamb with boulangere potatoes,” he said. “It was delicious, Nanny, perhaps you could find a recipe!” When I picked myself up off the floor, I muttered faintly that I would look! They are, indeed, growing up! Enjoy your shopping trip today!

Annie you and Fred will need plenty of fresh air so gird up your loins, girlo!

It seemed yesterday that both my children were conspiring to throw my best laid plans for Easter and beyond into total disarray so when when we went out for a walk yesterday I was rather grumpy. Even grumpier that I hauled it camera along and then found that though there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, the slight haze that persisted through the afternoon rendered my photos less satisfactory than usual. No detail in the distant landscape. Added to that, our out in the middle of nowhere ice cream man was NOT THERE!!!
We called in at a pub on the edge of the moor when we got back and ordered a meal. People seemed to be propping up their tables with stacks of beer mats (a couple of engineers at the next table we’re discussing the mechanics of this in some detail) and someone had done the same to ours, but at one point, DH got up to go to the gents, the table lurched and my hand caught the edge of my plate and propelled a new potato covered in sauce onto my shirt! I know the floors are hundreds of years old, but really! The waitress was very apologetic and they offered us a free desert, which we didn’t want, so they cleaned me up and knocked a bit off the bill! We will still go back there because the food is nice (when it isn’t in your lap!) and they serve all day. I will leave you with a photo. School run today. I haven’t seen the boy for over a week and cannot wait! TOYA.

soop Thu 18-Apr-19 10:27:56

N&G The Queen of the universe is one very bright young lady. She'll go far. Have yourselves a merry Easter.

Thinking of Marydoll and MrLester...and all of you with appointments connected with health issues.

Lovely photos, Greyduster.

We shall be leaving shortly for Glasgow. Home much later this evening. Too late for me to pop into our kitchen. Tomorrow will be the usual care home visit. It will almost certainly be during the afternoon when I next try to catch up with the latest goings-on.

In the meantime...relax if you can...enjoy whatever preparations you have organised for the coming weekend. Don't worry too much about getting everything done to perfection. In the big scheme of things there is far more important stuff going on.

Logging off with a smile and plenty of sunshine x

kittylester Thu 18-Apr-19 10:37:42

I seem to have missed a couple of days. Wishing soop and marydoll well for today. I'm reading gn in yet another hospital waiting room.

I love the sophisticated food tastes or the young people. DGS3 is very sophisticated in his tastes and cooks lovely food. His sister, who was brought up the same way, only eats what her parents call 'beige food'.

Enjoy your days everyone TOYA.

Nannytopsy Thu 18-Apr-19 11:06:23

My son ate beige food until university - she will come round eventually Kitty! Littlest DGD doesn’t really eat anything apart from crisps, chips and peanuts. If she is in the mood she will eat spaghetti bolognese.

Greyduster Thu 18-Apr-19 11:29:06

Nannytopsy I’m sure your GDs eating habits will not be a worry to you. They seem to thrive whatever they eat. Until he was two, GS would eat anything. Any vegetable, soup, anything in a sauce. We wore out the Annabelle Carmel cookbook. Then down came the shutters. No sauces, soups, nothing spread on his bread; of fish he would only eat their fingers, and of chicken, their nuggets. Plain pasta was his staple, with vegetables. Things improved but slowly. Their tastes certainly become more eclectic as they get older, thank the Lord!

grannyqueenie Thu 18-Apr-19 11:59:37

I keep missing days, kitty! The youngsters food likes/dislikes are very unpredictable and ever changing. I have to admit ours run rings round me as I try and mostly fail to keep up! But I’m very impressed by these very sophisticated young people I’ve just read about. Dd4 who is coming for the weekend informed me earlier this week that she is now a flexitarian which as far as I can make out means she no longer cooks meat at home but is more than happy to eat roast lamb/beef/chicken if I choose to cook it for her this weekend! I did jokingly point out that it sounded like it was a flexible arrangement to ensure she could still enjoy meat but at my expense, if you’ll excuse the pun she then sounded rather sheepish!

Glad to hear things are looking more positive for your son callgirl, these treatment regimes are so arduous. Local friends are exhausted as they come to the end of his 6 weeks of rt and that involves a much shorter round trip. Thinking of soop and marydoll on hospital excursions today. Oh and you too kitty whether it’s for yourself or someone else hope all’s well. I feel a bit surrounded by poorliness of various degrees, I think I’ve arrived at that age. Dd2 has both in laws facing serious stuff and we have several friends with tricky health issues to face. I visited a friend in the local hospice the other day, she was on good form if a bit muddled at times. I’m not sure she will be at home again. Her dh and my old boy are walking buddies, poor man is just deflated, sad and bewildered at how quickly things are progressing. They are the same age as us and had very similar outlook/lifestyle it’s a stark reminder for us to treasure every day we have together. Although reading what I’ve written further on in this post that’s not always easy to remember in the ordinariness of day to day living!

Sounds like you had a mixed day out greyduster, sorry but I did chuckle at the lunch escapade! Enjoy that boy when you see him, I’ll bet he’s missed you lots too and will have travel tales to tell.

Well our refurbished conservatory is now completed, well apart from new flooring which should be fine next week and some rather tricky touching up under the window sills. The latter may take some time and may drive us to the brink... practical skills not bring in abundance here! We eventually found new furniture we could both agree on, sadly it won’t arrive for a good few weeks yet so we’ll use the old chairs and sofa and try to resist the temptation to move all the other junk in with it!

Well I’d best get on and make a shopping plan, I need to make some food to take to a church supper tonight and then source some meat for the visiting flexitarian!

grannyqueenie Thu 18-Apr-19 12:03:32

greyduster one of ours once wrote her mum a very short but specific list of what she would/wouldn’t eat... it included “naked pasta” grin We should have guessed then that life was not going to be easy for her beleaguered parents!!

Greyduster Thu 18-Apr-19 12:50:53

Gq ?!

Panache Thu 18-Apr-19 13:59:33

`Afternoon to you all,we know we are approaching a Bank Holiday by the greater number of vehicles heading towards our western coast, with many trailing boats, caravans and all manner of seaside paraphenalia!!

The news did say more people than usual are staying put in GB this Easter, partly due to a whole load of mixed circumstances, whilst obviously the weather forecast promising us higher temperatures than many of the "Hot spots" abroad playing a big factor.

We never go a day without any one of us visiting a Hospital and today it seems we have Soop,Marydoll and it seems
Kitty`s Mr Lester.Wishing you all safe journeys, minimum waiting time and hopefully, a helpful appointment, and some pleasing results.

Food is such a big main topic and of course I totally understand that, our youngsters are certainly developing different taste buds it seems from all your remarks. However sadly it is a subject I hastily avoid and you all know why!

I sincerely hope your Fred is going to get well used this Spring and summer Annie He will be very proud of his own specially made abode I feel sure!
Indeed with the advent of my dear man failing to continue safe driving, it is going to put a whole new weight on our shoulders.... living as we do those 3 miles from amenities. We have envisaged I would be having a Mobile Scooter soon but it now looks as though we shall need 2..............and then there willbe a need for a double parking lot.How times change.
Thankfully though these machines truly fit these needs.
Something else to test and try!

Whilst it seems you do an awful lot of walking GreyD, always regaling us with some facinating stories and pictures. As once a great walker I read of your walks with a small tinge of envy, but I also enjoy them as you obviously do and it comes through in your writing.

Feeling extremely shattered, so I think perhaps a snooze is due,sad thing being I can never sleep during day time...........but I keep hoping for that first!

Enjoy your trip Anno and all of you heading off for this Easter. I wish you all an uplifting day, improved health and lots of sunshine......and anything you might be wishing for yourself.

annsixty Thu 18-Apr-19 15:41:09

My dearest husband died very peacefully this morning.
I was with him holding his hand and he just slipped away.

Charleygirl5 Thu 18-Apr-19 15:55:45

Ann I am so so sorry to hear that news. I am so pleased to hear that you were able to make it to be by his side during this traumatic time. He' s now at peace.

cornergran Thu 18-Apr-19 15:56:49

ann I’m so sorry to read this, I was shocked as I am sure you were. Sending love along with sympathy for your loss. Please let others care for you now. flowers.

MawBroonsback Thu 18-Apr-19 16:03:22

Annsixty I am so very sorry for your loss, but sense that in many ways you lost him years ago. However, nothing is quite like the real thing.
I am pleased for you both that you were able to be with him right to the end sad
