Hi all. I have a friend much younger than myself who has a 10 yr old child. When I see her she often tells me how tough it is financially and that there are times when she feeds her child but goes without,of course my heart goes out to her so I invite them both to eat at my place for either lunch or dinner. She has also borrowed money. The other day I was at her place and saw she bought 2 bottles of 1 litre whiskey. $100 Australian. I mentioned to her that "I'm confused that you say you cant buy food or pay bills ,but buy alcohol." She wasn't happy and felt I was judging her. Should I have said nothing.???
There are "little things" and little" things. The innocent totally harmless little things, quite out in the open, inviting others to join in, and then there's the sly digs.
Why shouldn’t I mention something I’ve noticed and ask if anyone else has noticed it? I’m not naming any names am I? ( they know who they are) . Just a bit of fun. Get off your high horses
I’m amused by it Elegran . It was quite clever to start with but it’s getting a bit obvious now. However, it doesn’t harm the OP so it’s not again guidelines.
I do the cryptic crossword in the daily mail (occasionally finish it as well!) but these clues have gone right over my head! Can someone educate me please?
Google tells me that 100 Australian dollars is about £55. So, quite expensive. Do alcoholics normally buy expensive drink? Or go for getting the most for their money? Possibly the woman just has her priorities wrong. I agree with those saying to continue being a friend, and inviting her and her child for a meal if you like to do that, but cut back on giving her money.
SueH49, compare the population volume between Australia and UK. Even when I was in Oz in 1990, a long time ago, there appeared to be a lot of " drinkers " back then. Hot sunny weather, a laid-back life and hard-partying, something I didn't see when I was there in 1982 so things HAVE changed over the years. This was in Sydney.
No EV that’s not what I’m talking about at all - not the OP at all or the type of OP but a certain type of response to it which is imo a coded message to others in the loop.
EllanVannin, I don't think people in Australia have any more of a drink problem than those in any other country. Of course we have our fair share of those that do but so does the UK. Your comment is both unnecessary and unhelpful IMO.
