I moved into this house in 1984 with my DH and little DD. He died 3 years ago almost and I am about to exchange on the sale of my house. My DD and family have also sold their house and are buying a bigger house where I will live with them. I know I am fortunate in having such a loving family but today surrounded by the chaos of sorting out my previous life, all I want to do is stay here with my DH. I yearn with such ineffable sadness’ for the life I can never have again and wonder where I’ll get the emotional energy for my new life. It’s hard isn’t it?

Oh Tuliptree I do sympathise with you and understand the emotional turmoil you're going through.
Not the same but in 2001 I sold my parents home which they bought in 1949 and which I was brought up in.
It brought back so many memories and was an emotional time.

We move on.
Your new life could open up so many new 'adventures' for you.
You'll always have your memories.
Go with an open mind and I wish you well in your new home.

I have recently lost my Dh and the yearning for the life I can never have again is indeed strong. I have a loving family, too, but it’s the sense of no longer being anyone’s No 1 that is so hard to come to terms with.

We moved house four years ago, so I do have some memories of life here with Dh. We had loved our previous house, and were there for 25 years but much to my surprise, I’ve barely thought about it since leaving. I guess it was the right thing to do and I was glad to see it go to another family with young children.

I really hope you settle in your new home and can make a new, different life for yourself. Good luck. X
