What are you doing on Mothers Day?

I've made Mothers Day cards for my Mum and my MiL and I'm making a cake to take. MiL and DM love home made things. I know MiL will be missing seeing her Grand daughters and great Grandchildren who she hasnt seen since November 2018. She cries about this a lot and we try to comfort her, but it's sad. I might tell her that my Gs has gone back to China, but it might make her too sad. At least she got to meet him once.
My Mum is too far away to visit, but I've posted her something nice. This Mother's day I am going to miss two of my (absent) sons and my Grandson who I suspect won't be in England, but I'm going to focus on trying to make it good for my MiL and being happy with what I do have. I think sometimes "happy" occaisions aren't always easy for a lot of people for various reasons. I appreciate my MiL because without her I wouldn't have my DH.

Always loved Mothering Sunday .

It will be a sad day this year.

Younger daughter doesn’t have children.

My three grandchildren don’t now have their mother

I will miss my darling elder daughter.

But I was blessed with many happy Mothering Sunday’s and wish the same happiness to all x

It’s hard when you have just lost your Mum, all those bittersweet memories.
The MD after I lost my mother I couldn’t help buying a card and sent it to my favourite (actually only) aunt with whom I got on very well.
That’s what Mothering Sunday is about isn’t it? Remembering with love and gratitude for bringing us into the world, “paying it forward” to our own daughters and watching their achievements as mothers.
I once told DD how I admired the way she was bringing up her children and was immensely touched when she replied “I learned it from the best, Mum”
(And I don’t think she meant Gina Ford or Mumsnet grin )

I will have one son and grandson staying over for the weekend and my parents-in-law have been invited for Sunday lunch. My daughter-in-law's family live about ten doors away from my house, so I expect she and my son will split their time between us, it's their first Mothering Sunday as parents. smile

One of my daughters is in NZ and I will get a FaceTime call perhaps and the other will be at her own church in the morning and then spend the day with her own little boys.

Oh Maw what a touching thing for your daughter to say! Just lovely.

KatyK Fri 29-Mar-19 09:41:26

My mum and mother-in-law died almost 50 years ago when me and DH were both in our 20s. DD was going to book afternoon tea for us but couldn't get in anywhere so she is doing afternoon tea for us at her house smile She will be missing her own DD who is at uni but I'm sure she will do something nice for her mum.

AllatSea48 Fri 29-Mar-19 09:42:48

Harris27, what a difficult time for you, ...flowers

KatyK Fri 29-Mar-19 09:42:59

That's lovely Maw . My DD has said that to me in the past although she is a far better mum than I was.

Gonegirl Fri 29-Mar-19 09:48:54

For the first time I won't be cooking the family dinner. Younger daughter has that pleasure this year.

This year I decided to order flowers and chocs to be delivered to my DD (GSs' mum) on Saturday. Message in the card to read: Best Mum Award 2019. Because, quite honestly, I think she is.

I will see both my daughters we are all having brunch together and have booked an evening roast at the local pub. It’s lovely to see them regularly now living so close together after living 150 miles apart for many years. I will get a small present and card from DD1 and DD2 has bought me a card and a bouquet of tulips ( my favourite flower) which she has done with her own money from the age of 11, she is now 35! It’s tradition now! I will also get a card from my two little granddaughters . I know I’m very lucky and will enjoy the day altogether. My own mother and MIL are long gone. DD1 will also be spoilt but DD2 doesn’t have children but “shares” her nieces who think their auntie is wonderful

Sadly my Mum passed 17 years ago, but often think of her, and also of my GN, lovely lady, loved by all. So will be remembering both of them fondly. DS is cooking a delicious roast for us at his house, bless him.

* Maw* smile
I will be having a rest! I have had a week of childminding, starting at noon on Saturday and finishing around 5 this evening, mostly caring for sick children. Much as I love them, and am happy to help my daughters and partners, I am absolutely exhausted! Someone on another thread was talking about this: how we managed perfectly well in our 20s and 30s, but are finding it hard in our 60s and 70s. Tomorrow we are having an extended family lunch in the village where my father was born, I will go to my partner’s on Saturday evening, then he has promised breakfast in bed after a lie in.

No mother or MiL for a long time.
Was going to have family/Gdcs here for a brunch, since we have lovely goodies from a gift hamper to use up. But dd who works for a big aid agency will now be off to the cyclone disaster area. Conditions are obviously dire and I'll be worried until she's safely back Meantime will take the brunch to son in law/Gdcs and see the rest of them there.

As I had no children Sunday will just be another day for me. I have organised for flowers to be delivered to my Mother, who lives in Australia.

I wish all Mothers, Grandmothers, and Great Grandmothers a lovely day - and for those of you who will not be receiving anything on Mothers Day flowers

Nanny123 Fri 29-Mar-19 10:16:00

Its my granddaughters 16th Birthday on Saturday and the family are all getting together to celebrate her birthday and Mother’s Day. Quite a special day as my granddaughter was born on Mother’s Day 16 years ago and she has a special date as she was born on the 30.3.03 (which is the same backwards) and her mum was born on the 18.8.81 (which is the same backwards) What a lovely way to celebrate Mother’s Day with all the family

nettyandmasey Fri 29-Mar-19 10:16:54

I have my mum, step dad, three adult children, two son in laws and four grand children here for lunch. So cooking ! Xx

Theoddbird Fri 29-Mar-19 10:20:51

I have Sunday off work...unusual. If it is sunny I will sit on riverbank and sew. One daughter is visiting with her family on Saturday. Won't see my other two children.

henetha Fri 29-Mar-19 10:22:24

One son has already said he will be visiting me on Sunday morning, and the other son will, as he always does.
I am so lucky.
My heart goes out to mothers whose children don't bother, or cannot for whatever reason.
My own mothers/mothers-in-law are long gone, but I shall be thinking of them.

Flowerofthewest Fri 29-Mar-19 10:30:29

I'm having my mum here for Sunday Roast of her choice. My DS2 .is taking his wife and children out as is my DS1 . DS1 is coming over Sat instead. DD1 is taking me out for breakfast on Sat. DD2 lives 100 mile away but is making me a special box up for when I see her in a couple of weeks. DD3 will be working. I expect I'll get a phone call. Love them all to bits. The mums all deserve to be spoiled rotten.

Flowerofthewest Fri 29-Mar-19 10:32:07

**correction I only have 2 DDS. ..I meant DS3 will be working ...oops

Annaram1 Fri 29-Mar-19 10:33:15

there are some lovely stories on here, but also some ver y sad ones, Annieb, my heart goes out to you and your family. You are big hearted enough to wish us happiness on Mothering Sunday. May your grandchildren one day send you cards on this day.
Everyone, have a lovely day. I have had a card from my dear daughter who unfortunately fell out with me some months ago. But I don't think it really marks a change in attitude. I wish it did.

Jacqui1956 Fri 29-Mar-19 10:35:51

No mother of MIL, children live 300miles away so much the same as any other Sunday...cleaning, cooking dinner.....

Saggi Fri 29-Mar-19 10:38:34

I dont bother with mum’s day..... my kids send a card and if they turn up they’ll bring flowers or chocs or books. I usually ask them to dinner and I end up just cooking the meal and washing up so this year I’vedecided to stay quiet and not invite them. My daughter has her own kids so they will be wanting to do something together anyway. My son is un-partnered and no kids so if I don’t invite him for lunch he will keep card and give it to me when he sees me . We’re all pretty laid back by mums day and if they forget I’ll just shrug and move on. Don’t take umbrage and never hold a grudge. Soul destroying stuff that!

GabriellaG54 Fri 29-Mar-19 10:43:08

My mum, having died 20 odd years ago will have some fresh flowers and a message put on her grave (with my dad) by my friend who lives nearby as it's nearly 200 miles away from me.
She takes and sends a photo every year.
I expect nothing from my children as I know they love me but my youngest always sends me 2 dozen particular long-stemmed white roses which have dark green leaves tinged with red - beautiful.
I might get cards or other stuff but the best thing is speaking to them as they all live more than 150 miles away.
I don't need thanks or evidence of their love.

Juicylucy Fri 29-Mar-19 10:45:26

Putting last of Mother’s Day cards out for the late comers as I work forcgreeting card company. Then flowers on my mums grave, walk and drink in country pub with a friend as one daughter in Australia the other away for the weekend. Have lovely day everyone ?

helenmabr Fri 29-Mar-19 10:45:43

Meeting up with my mum, my daughter and family, three sisters and their children and my auntie. So there will be 7 mums altogether and 16 of us for a nice meal out. Looking forward to it
