What are you doing on Mothers Day?

I've made Mothers Day cards for my Mum and my MiL and I'm making a cake to take. MiL and DM love home made things. I know MiL will be missing seeing her Grand daughters and great Grandchildren who she hasnt seen since November 2018. She cries about this a lot and we try to comfort her, but it's sad. I might tell her that my Gs has gone back to China, but it might make her too sad. At least she got to meet him once.
My Mum is too far away to visit, but I've posted her something nice. This Mother's day I am going to miss two of my (absent) sons and my Grandson who I suspect won't be in England, but I'm going to focus on trying to make it good for my MiL and being happy with what I do have. I think sometimes "happy" occaisions aren't always easy for a lot of people for various reasons. I appreciate my MiL because without her I wouldn't have my DH.

DS2, GF and DGD here with a plant, card and bar of chocolate, while they were here we skyped DS1 & family in USA and while we were 'all together' we we got the news that DS2 &GF are expecting baby no 2. What a special mothering Sunday present!!

My eldest GD sent me a message saying Happy Mother's Day - thank you for bringing the best dad ever into the world grin I thought that was lovely.

Her dad and DIL sent a beautiful bouquet and card this morning but other son in NZ won't even know it's Mother's Day.

My MiL died on Wednesday, so my Daughter gave me cards and present yesterday as she didn't want to upset her dad today.

Today we have had a quiet day with a trip the cemetery in the to lay flowers at my Mums grave and then a quiet meal together at home.

However I do have to smile when I look at my 3 grandsons cards.
My eldest grandson for the first time, proudly wrote his Mum's card all by himself.
And insisted that he would also write a card for me without his Mum's help.

So in my card it says......

to lion
Love from * * * *
xxxxx

When his mum said 'you have wrote lion'
My DGS I know but I couldn't remember how to write grandma.grin

Children are a great leveler

Thank you for the link, MawBroon
I think I will do that in memory of my DM and DMIL.

I have chosen not to celebrate Mothers Day this year with the big family gathering that we usually have. DSis died suddenly at the beginning of the month and the funeral was on Friday. I just didn't feel that I wanted to and I explained how I felt. However I did receive lovely cards and this morning when we came back from walking the dogs there was a big box delivered with flowers from them all. The message inside said they quite understood how I felt but couldn't let it pass unacknowledged. That did mean a lot to me.

BlueBelle - 1 out of 3 isn’t too bad but yes, could be better. Enjoy your lunch today - I hope your eldest cooked it for you wink

TerriBull Sun 31-Mar-19 13:03:44

Love and flowers to you Annie x

BlueBelle Sun 31-Mar-19 13:01:44

Granless I can emphasise. my son lives in NZ and the at moment is on work in Asia he messaged me Happy mother’s day adding it’s not mother’s day in NZ nor Asia I replied ‘thanks for your good wishes but it is in a Uk’ with a smiley face
My youngest daughter rang briefly she doesn’t do cards for anything
My eldest has invited me to a cooked lunch
I only ever get one out of three cards I would love to have three though

My elder granddaughter has sent me a text wishing me a Happy Mothering Sunday and said her mother ( my daughter) is wishing me the same from ‘where she is’ .

And my daughters husband has texted me to wish me the same.

I know my daughter would want this for me.

KatyK Sun 31-Mar-19 12:45:07

My granddaughter has just phoned me from university to wish me Happy Mother's Day. What a lovely girl she is. We are off to DD's now. flowers for all struggling today.

TerriBull Sun 31-Mar-19 12:41:08

My grandson, aged 4, gave me a mother's day card from him and his sister. He drew a lovely picture of me, my head looking somewhat Medusa like, with thin streaks of something or other coming out of it, I was informed by him, not hair, not snakes, but rashers of bacon apparently to make me look more beautiful confused My son, their father gave me a spa voucher, gratefully received. I await hearing from number 2 son, he's usually pretty good at marking such events, but we were in Seville last week and I think maybe I forgot to tell him we were back this week-end. Later on we are all having Sunday roast dinner together.

My commiserations to you Robin, I'm very sorry you are having such a painful time and to any other grandmas in similar positions flowers

DanniRae Sun 31-Mar-19 12:18:58

Hi Robin, so sorry to read your post. I am sending you some flowers
I wish I could do more......xx

Granless Sun 31-Mar-19 09:32:01

Nothing special. My son lives in Oz and he sends me something on their Mother’s Day. I am not criticising here but would like to receive something on UK Mother’s Day, if I’m honest.

Since my Daughter got married and emigrated to America Mothers Day isnt the same she has never sent cards anyway she doesnt believe in them they are a waste of trees i don't get flowers either because she doesnt like killing them ! I spent time with my Mum yesterday cards and flowers wine and chocolates ! I know she wont even facetime today she didn't on my Birthday 2 weeks ago I feel under appreciated and heartbroken. My Daughter is pregnant with my second Grandchild and recently got her permission to stay in the USA she's been there for 5 years but it doesn't get any easier ? shes my only child and i am very proud of her but i feel like a spare part i'm no longer needed. She actually got married and never told me ! She recently told me that the playroom I have here is a waste of time she has no idea how i feel and i daren't discuss it the last time i attempted it she told me i need therapy ?? I don't know who she is anymore she is so headstrong and independent too business minded and cold ......without reason ! I am baffled by her actions but she acts as though everything is fine i have a problem ! Its breaking my heart am I crazy ? I am beginning to doubt my sanity because I am so confused ...help !!!

I really feel for those estranged from family and I feel guilty for posting this, am I being ungrateful? Just opened a package from my daughter, a card and a brown paper bag with a tea towel in it. Would sooner not have had anything.

DanniRae Sun 31-Mar-19 08:06:45

I said way back on this thread that I am with my two daughters today and one is cooking lunch. I said I didn't know what my son was planning for Mothering Sunday as he is at Wembley for the Sunderland final. Well I know now....He is coming here tommorrow, with his fiance, and treating me (and his dad) to a take-away. So I am more than happy with that! grin

A beautiful basket of flowers was delivered this morning from my eldest daughter, there was a small box of chocolates in there as well.

TerriBull Sat 30-Mar-19 18:51:03

I've got my son and 2 grandchildren here till Monday morning. We will be having a roast dinner tomorrow because that's what my grandchildren like on Sunday. I'm not bothered about going out for a meal We've just come back from a week in Seville and Cordoba where we were out tapasing every day. Wonderful! and loads of sunshine as well.

Marelli Sat 30-Mar-19 18:45:57

Grannysmith, I too am estranged from one of my daughters and I know just how awful this feels on Mothering Sunday, as well as her own birthday. We'll share some ?, you and I. xx

Nanny27 Sat 30-Mar-19 18:38:51

I shall be travelling 3 hours up the motorway with a pretty card and a large bunch of roses for my darling mum. She won't know its Mother's day but I so hope she's having a good day and knows who I am.

Blinko Sat 30-Mar-19 18:09:11

Further to my rather downbeat post of yesterday, in fact I received a book in the post with love from DS2 today. So I am very pleased that both sons thought of me. Lovely!

Grannysmith Sat 30-Mar-19 17:46:34

It’s wonderful to hear of all the grans who will be enjoying their families on Sunday. But spare a thought for those of us who are estranged from our daughters & grandchildren. I already feel like burying myself in a deep sandpit until Monday morning.
