I have a vague recollection of getting 7" vinyl records via a Summer County margarine promotion.

I bought an Ali baba linen basket with green shield stamps. I thought it was the height of sophistication!

I can remember clearly the Green Shield stamps and the little book (and licking/sticking the stamps in!) Oddly, I can't recall the items we "bought" with them.

I remember the Green Shield stamp shop in Bristol when I had just moved here. I bought towels and one is still used for the dog, and some lovely red glass sundae glasses and wine glasses which I needed but had no money to buy!
There were also pink stamps but I can't remember where they came from. Anybody know?
There were Co-op Dividend stamps which you swapped for groceries.
Then loads of petrol station ones, usually for glasses most of which were very nice and you can collect a set.

My Mum gave me several books of green shield stamps when we got married 46 years ago. I git a pair of flanalette sheets which we were really pleased with. We still have them although they are used as dust sheets now!

Clear Pyrex cookware dishes with Green Shield Stamps - still got most of them! Mother smoked Embassy and I still have the teak breadboard and cheeseboard that she saved for. (Sadly she died from cancer and I so wish she hadn't smoked and we could have bought a thousand breadboards with the money spent on ciggies but - it is as it is.) I also got some lovely 'cut crystal' wine glasses from the local garage - I expect we paid for them in the long run but it was nice to get a gift!

We collected green shield stamps and the first thing we bought was a sleeping bag which we had for about 30 years. We saved tokens from the back of fruit pie packs and we had a light weight set of garden tools eg hoe, rake etc with a hanging rack which we are still using 45 years later. Yes we only just broke the last of the petrol station wine glasses.x

We bought a set of Prestige stainless steel saucepans with ours and I am still using them 48 years later!

I used my Greenshield stamps for 3 Kilner jars nearly 40 years ago. Still going strong.

We once got some posters of famous paintings, I think from collecting something on tea packets. One was the Mona Lisa which my dad 'framed' by sticking it on a piece of hardboard and putting some wooden beading around it that he had painted black. Another was called 'Peonies in a vase' which he explained was pronounced 'Ponies, as the 'e' was silent, so that's what we all called it - I think he was joking!

I remember my Mum saving the labels from Black and Green's tea, and coupons from Trex cooking fat, in the 40's, but not what she swapped them for. They seemed to give good things away for very few coupons/stamps then. Nowadays the rewards don't seem to be nearly as good. Store points take forever to mount up to a decent amount. I have an Asda credit card. In spite of spending a lot of money on it recently for flights to Australia, I have the princely sum of £8.54 to claim!
I can't remember saving Green Shield stamps at all, but I'm sure that I must have. My memory isn't what it was!

My Mum gave me a nest of tables by using her Kensitas cigarette coupons 43 years ago. Still going strong and used daily.

Round metal holder for jam jars when you didn't bother with a jam dish. They had pictures of barefoot children on them. My daughter's would remember them. Think they came with Greensheild stamps.

We had 5 Goldfish and tank that was an offer from Chivers jelly if you collected so many wrappers. They came by post.

We collected green Shield stamps and Embassy cigarette coupons and had all sorts of goodies from collecting them. The item I remember best was a set of wooden handled cutlery.

My auntie also used to have a lottery with the tea cards. Brooke Bond loose leaf tea came with a numbered card which, if you collected them all, made up a set of picture cards on a variety of topics: birds, sports, cars and so on. You could buy an album to put them in and swap doubles with other collectors.

But the best fun was at Auntie's where, with her eight children,just before a packet of tea was broached, everyone would call out a number from one to fifty. Then the packet was opened and the number of the card read out. The nearest to the number was the winner and everyone else who participted had to give them a penny.

I don't remember a lot of coughing up the cash though!

Chewbacca - Many years ago a young friend of ours was training to be a doctor. He too examined a lady and found a stamp stuck where a stamp didn't ought to be.... Coinsidence ?

I remember getting prawn cocktail dishes from the petrol station. Also an insulated tea pot from green shield stamps. I wish I'd kept the teapot as it kept tea lovely and hot.

I have just remembered that my Mum had a vase full of plastic ...I think tulips?... that came with coupons from soap powder. Have I dreamed this one up? We all hated them but they were in a vase for several years - I really can't remember if they were with coupons or if she had bought them.

I remember collecting crisp packets in the 1970’s to get a free 7” single,I gotBallroom Blitz by the Sweet and my brother got Angel Fingers by Wizzard . Also remember my dad collecting Smurfs from the National petrol station,think you got a free one when you bought so much petrol?
My husband and I also took advantage of the Persil train tickets and had a day trip from London to Blackpool (the things you do when you’re young ) caught the last train back from Blackpool and had to stand most of the way

Green shield stamps. I got A picnic set with a Thermos flask. I still love a flask if I’m out in the car for the day.

When I got engaged my mum gave us two carrier bags full of Green Shield stamp books. There was enough to buy a full set of bedding and a couple of pans and bits for the kitchen.

Cigarette coupons! I never smoked, though my parents and most aunts and uncles did. They collected the coupons, and you could buy extra ones from certain shops. I bought the coupons and got cot sheets and wool cellular cot blankets. I still have the blankets, 47 years on.

I got a tea service and matching lunch plates, but I don't remember whether they were from my mother's green shield stamps or cigarette coupons.

My mother got a potato peeling machine that lasted for somewhere around forty years.

I am ashamed to say we bought our new baby's carry cot and wheels with our Number 6 cigarette coupons. Nobody ever told me to stop smoking-48 years ago. Glad to say we have been non-smokers for a long time now and none of our children have ever smoked.
