Oo I loved kayli (don't know if that's how you spell it). You can still get it. There is an old fashioned sweet shop in Birmingham city centre and a couple of years ago DH and I bought some kayli. They give it to you in a triangular bag. The girl said 'would you like a liquorice stick to dab into to it?' We said yes please and we sat on a wall with our kayli and liquorice, much to the amusement of passers by.

Mcgowans egg n milk chews I think they were called (used to be on 1p tray , almost pulled your teeth out, and drumstick lollies which you can still buy.
Across the road at Oswaldtwistle Mills we have a "Stockleys sweet shop" they sell some of the old sweets and American cream soda kayli (is that how you spell kayli ? hmm..

Oh right! I often wondered why I had to get my Horlick tablets from a chemist shop!

I think it was possible to buy Horlicks tablets without coupons, because they were classed as medicinal. They are the first sweet I remember. Sweet rationing finished when I was about fourteen, and off I went to Mr Mattingley’s to buy as many liquorice comfits as I could afford.

No, I couldn't stand Parma Violets. Loved the idea and the look of them though.

I remember Horlick tablets. Used to buy them in a little tube from Boots.

Can anybody remember a chocolate bar with pieces of ovaltine in it ? OMG it was so delicious .

OH yes spangles, old Jamaica rum bars, and the Fry's bars. Loved them.
Aldo Mint cracknel bars, Yorkshire Mixtures, sarsparilla drops, kop-kops, those bags of rainbow coloured rice-crispies, and bar 6. Oh and fruit salads and black jacks.

Does anyone remember choc top yogurt? It was a lemon yogurt with a layer of chocolate on top. A strange combination but I loved them in about 1963.

Fry’s did a chocolate bar that was a layer of dark chocolate then white chocolate and finally milk chocolate. I can’t remember what it was called.
I liked separating the layers out before eating them.

We sometimes bought Parma Violets - not sure if we really liked them as they used to taste a bit 'soapy'. We loved Spangles and Fruity Polo's.

The best biscuits I have found are in Lidl, Their posh ones and butter shortcake in the long packet. I too got fed up with naff biscuits. Balsen are lovely too.

Sorry always hated new berry fruits too gritty. Give me sharps toffee or that stuff which came with a hammer.

The original New Berry Fruits---my parents used to buy a couple of boxes as a Christmas treat. The syrup inside tasted of REAL fruit. Now ,they taste synthetic.

Old Jamaica, a rum flavoured chocolate bar, was tasty.
As a child, I enjoyed caramac, but it would be far too sickly now!
Were they called sherbet lemons, or something similar, B9exchange? I could be quite wrong, of course!
I used to like fruit polos too - not sure if they are still around.

My parents used to keep a small round tin of square boiled sweets in the car for long journeys, they were covered in icing sugar, lemon being my favourite, anyone remember those, brain addled today?

Teacher gave me Spangles to stave off travel sickness when I was about eleven and on a school trip. It worked!

They looked a bit boring but were delicious.

I remember the Royal Scot biscs and I think they were in a royal blue wrapper, though not sure.
