Poor Soop - today was going to be exhausting without the diversion. They will both need the lion (as my DD called a lie in) tomorrow!
Bellanona she is the sunniest little girl. As a birthday treat we turned a blind eye to her feeding cake to our beagle. Honey Beagle had a great day too ?

Soops kitchen refuge for gentle ladies
(1001 Posts)Well as first for me. Opening a new kitchen full of light, love and support
I may have got it wrong, but that is the route I would have taken to the hospital.
I hope they are home safely now, it's a long enough journey at the best of times.
Lets' hope all is ok on the road. new to GN and not quite sure of protocol yet. Just a bit concerned. If you don't mind me venting I would like to say something. We were told DSD was not having visitors today to see new baby Erin. Early evening on social media lovely pics of her mum and mil with baby. Sometimes I wonder why I bother.
gransal, you must be hurt at that. Try to keep your own counsel, it's really hard, but it will save a lot of grief later on.
What you don't know is if MIL turned up anyway, perhaps DIL was tired and her mum stepped in to help and she was too exhausted to say "No". When it's your own mum, you don't need to put on "a face".
I was going to say that a new mum usually wants her mum around her for support, but in my case it was the opposite. I'm the MIL and my DIL wanted me and not her own mother to help, which was quite tricky.
It's still the same three years later,
Try not to let it upset you, ask what you can do to help: shopping, washing and ironing, letting mum go for a sleep or shower.
We get caught up in the euphoria of the birth and then reality sets in.
Get some sleep and you will be better place to support your son and DIL. DIL's hormones will be all over the place, she is probably feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment.
I think new mums are sent home too soon, nowadays.
Remember, tomorrow is another day!
PS, Erin is a delightful name!
mamissimo lovely photo of your DGD. What a happy smile ?
Hope soop and MacSporran get home safely.
gransal. Don’t go down that path. Understandable that your DSD wants to see her own mum and presumably her MIL is the baby’s grandmother and her husband’s mother. I am assuming your husband is her father and while he has as much right as the others to see the baby perhaps is just all a bit much for day one. I am sure you’ll get a lovely cuddle soon. Dont let hurt feelings spoil it for you I’m sure no slight was intended it was just probably a few too many people for day one.
gransal don’t worry - it’s not protocol, just my feeling ? sorry you didn’t get to have a cuddle today. I shall cross my fingers for you that you get one soon. You’ll see on lots of threads that daughters often turn to their mothers initially. Doesn’t stop it being tough though. ?
I know you are all being sensible, just felt a little miffed. Also having a dinner in a restaurant for DH 70th birthday tomorrow night. DSD is planning to attend with 3 day old baby. OK, I know it's probably me but I think that's too soon for a wee baby to be in that environment.
Just read my last post and feel like the wicked stepmother. Spoke to DH and he told me to just go with the flow. maybe for the best.
Understand the ‘ouch’ feeling gransal as you’d been initially told a visit would be OK. It’s all about managing expectations. Try not to let it get to be a big irritation, I suspect the new Mum simply underestimated her stamina. It sounds as if you may see her tomorrow, and Erin, unless of course your stepdaughter has again underestimated post baby stamina. In any case wishing you a wonderful dinner tomorrow, something to relax and enjoy.
Another one here hoping soop and macs have travelled safely. Also hoping for a restful night for ann.
Pleased you’re feeling better synonymous. Yucky is not a good way to be. Having the grass cut will lift a weight panache, it’s hard for folk (either gender) to see evidence that they are less able than they would like to be.
Loved the photo mamissimo, a beautiful birthday girl. I smiled at the cake and the dog. I wonder how much more the little one will quietly feed him as time passes?
Hope today felt a little lighter greyd and tomorrow is even brighter.
I should be asleep. Room clearing accomplished in readiness for Monday there is a need to refill the Mother Hubbard cupboards tomorrow. I need to be rested for that
. Sleep well everyone.
Morning all, I’ve been awake since silly o’clock so thought I’d pop in to say hello.
I’ve enjoyed all the lovely photo. Looks like you’ve got the hang of that new camera greyduster! Hope you feel more like yourself soon. As always all the youngsters look so cute, butter wouldn’t melt! Hope you’re feeling a bit more relaxed now sal and enjoy that cuddle with litte Erin when it comes.
Ann you must be worn out in every way going back and fowards to check on your husband. While all the visiting will be tiring, I’m guessing that it’s also hard to feel relaxed at home knowing your dh may not get the help with feeding that he needs. We all know how it should work for someone with his needs in a hospital setting, but sadly the reality doesn’t always match up to those standards.
I do feel for soop and macS with all the travelling they’re having to do. Not the easiest of routes to negotiate at the best of times, I hope we hear good news of them today.
So many kitchen folk are facing big health challenges these days, a reminder to me that, particularly as we get older, life doesn’t always stay the same and can so easily all change. Thinking of all no names as I’ll only miss someone out who are coping with surgery or ongoing treatment etc either for themselves or those they love.
We’re off to stay with some good friends this weekend who very conveniently live near some other good friends who have a retirement do (he’s a church minister, hence it being on a sunday) that we have been invited to attend this weekend. still with me? So lots of catching up with old pals for us. As we’ve known the “retiree” for over 40 years my old boy has been asked to say a “few words”.... I’m tactfully coaching him to try to make sure the words are just a few!
I hope the weekend is kind to you all, l will leave some photos of Fountains Abbey, we enjoyed a visit there yesterday in glorious sunshine.
Thought I would just pop in and see if there was any word from soop. I am a tad worried, hospital trips are hard enough without adding traffic problems.
Was hoping to hear how soop is. Travelling is not fun when you live in the woolly wilds at the best of times and even when you are feeling 100%.
GQ lovely photos of Fountains Abbey, many years since we visited there. Glad you had a lovely day for it, makes all the difference.
GranSal don't be disappointed about not getting the cuddle with wee Erin just yet, it will come. It might also be best to let your DH, as GDad, step forward first for the first cuddle while you make a point of enquiring after your DSD exclusively first and take something special for her as well as the baby. Building relationships is always ongoing and maintenance is a must! Little one will not be going off anywhere soon!
Just discovered that Himself needs anti bac bodywash as he is expected to be ready for surgery on arrival at the hospital. Seems very trusting to me and it does make you wonder how many folk actually do tbat as it is not something we keep in the house and I doubt that others would either. Just another thing to go on the list!
Gransal I had the same with all my dgc. I’ve just resigned myself to it. To be fair, the in-laws are a lot nearer and can jump in in an emergency which I can’t.
Synonymous I am amazed your DH is being asked to do that because it went out with the dark ages but if that pleases them, please do it.
GrannyQ beautiful photos of Fountains Abbey and they brought back lovely memories of visiting there in 1978.
Gransal it is difficult to keep your own counsel but it is essential. Sound advise given from fellow GN's. Happy Birthday to MrG ?
That's a lovely photo of your GD Mamissimo and a great cake, very moreish.
A very pretty young lady Mamissimo. Never mind feeding the dog with that gorgeous cake- there is me!
A cheery, sunny good afternoon to you lovely lot.
I hope that you will excuse me from not playing catch up right this minute. The amount of emails I've had to deal with means that I am chasing my shadow. I shall do so before the day is through.
Yesterday was a long and busy day. Friends asked to call in on the way home. It was late when we returned and we were both bushed.
In a fairly modest nutshell: the cancer was grade 3 and aggressive. The swift response between visiting the GP and having the mastectomy almost certainly prevented it from invading the lymph nodes.
It is fuelled by my body's natural (not HRT) oestrogen. To take anti-oestrogen meds for the rest of my life.
Tumour sample to be sent to lab in US for OncotypeDX Breast Recurrence Score. The result will ultimately enable the oncologist, whom we see for the first time, in a different clinic, at the same hospital next week, to decide on the best way forward. All very technical and something that my mother, who underwent a bilateral mastectomy many years ago, would not have had the benefit of.
I feel extremely fortunate to be having the best, most beneficial treatment that the NHS can offer.
Off for a wee nap. Will pop in again later to pay attention to all your posts.
Your GD is going to be a heartbreaker for sure with eyes like those, Mamissimo. What a pretty girl and aren’t first birthdays special? Any cake left?
Soop glad that you are home - you have had quite a journey on many levels. Take care of yourself and rest.
Happy birthday to Mr Sixty, Ann; I’m sorry that things are so difficult for you both at the moment.?
Gransal the cuddles will come aplenty in due course - understand your chagrin though, but put your hurt and disappointment into the “I’m bigger than that” box and close the lid firmly!?
Beautiful photos as always,*Gq*. I love Fountains Abbey. I love the huge -and only, apparently - fireplace that the monks used to be allowed to warm themselves at. I have visions of them in a crowd with the back ones gradually getting to move to the front, like Emperor penguins in a huddle! It is bally cold in North Yorkshire in the winter! Nitherin’, as they say!
I had a mother’s day card this morning. Strange. I already have one from DS; he gave it to me on Friday. DD always brings hers on the day, and it wasn’t her writing. DH looked askance at it. Was there something I hadn’t told him after fifty two and a bit years? I know my memory has not always been brilliant but surely I would have remembered another! It was from my eldest neice. It is a “someone who is like a mum to me” card. I was quite taken aback and very touched. My sister has been gone for quite some time, and she sadly lost her lovely husband just before Christmas and she told me then that having me there was like having her mum back, which was a huge compliment. There can’t be many things you can’t cover with a card now, but I shall treasure that one.
Well, DH has gone to the football, and I must away to the library. I shall attempt to catch up a bit more later!
Pleased you’re both back safe and sound soop, you sound to be getting the very best care, as you deserve
Just had a call to say Littlest and his family are en route for a visit, big surprise as his parents usually work at the weekend. Unseasonably pleased, must try to make space for them to sit down, we’re in more than a muddle after clearing the room for decorating. Oh well, no one will mind.
Beautiful photos grannyq, another sunny day here, may decamp to the beach with the family.
Think the body wash thing depends on the geographic area synonymous or maybe the surgeon’s preference. A friend had to do it recently (Wales), I didn’t (Oxfordshire). Guess it’s best to do as instructed but it does make you wonder why.
Take care all
Just back from visitingH, he did eat a morsel of lunch today.
My S and GD came after lunch but he just wanted to sleep.
Re the body wash, my friend in Lincolnshire who had bowel surgery for cancer 3 weeks ago yesterday was sent the gubbins and asked to do his own enema on the Thursday night, I felt it was a step too far.
I didn't ask hiw wife how it went as she was not happy.
She won't do his injections for thrombosis either, the district nurse does it, to be fair she is coming in daily to do dressings but J made it clear she wouldn't do them.
soop my BC also grade 3 and aggressive but stage 1, but like you everything was very quick, I wish you well now.
ann I think doing an enema would definitely be a step too far for me too - but there again if push came to shove I guess I would just roll up the sleeves.
............ (and put on the rubber gloves
)
Oh crumbs, I had forgotten about the daily injections too! I was doing those for weeks last time and it was ok at first but then it became difficult to find somewhere soft to try and get the needle in and that was when I found it distressing as it was painful for Himself. Oh well, needs must I suppose.
Glad they are looking after you soop and that you are resting. No option sometimes as you just can't do anything else!
Thought I could leave off the jollop today but NO!
It has been such a lovely day here. Gardening friend is busy barrowing purchased top soil around to where it is needed and what a difference it is making. He says he will keep going until he can't, bless hm! There is never enough topsoil though is there became we now see other areas which would also benefit! If we live that long it will be a fantastic garden one day!
Took Himself out to the farm shop earlier snd then offered to take him for s run in the car on the way home but his leg was so bad he just wanted to get home. I was a bit hard on him and just said that if it gets tough in the next little while to just remember this feeling and what the battle is for! I feel mean now!
Too much introspection is not good is it?!
I so need the kiss of life. I have taken as long as I'm able to try to catch up. A near impossibility because you lot do not know the meaning of...take it easy.
All the photos are lovely. Many of you are holding your heads high and soldiering on in spite having illness and sadness and ongoing stresses to cope with. I feel for every single one of you. You are an inspiration in more senses than I can begin to imagine. If I could wish away your pain, I most surely would.
Please continue to share your feelings with the rest of us. We are with you in spirit.
We didn't encounter the hold-up at Luss. What time of the day was that?
The marvellous fish and chips will become a regular treat whenever we travel by the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar. Delicious!
Today has been super-charged. Family and friends not on Gransnet wishing to know what's what with the cancer. I feel duty bound to respond to the very supportive messages.
I thought that those of you who are familiar magnificent "Kelpies" near Stirling, might like the mini-scale replicas that stand outside a cafe at Ardrishaig - on the way from Tarbert to Lochgilphead.
I am logging off for today. Fully intend visiting you all again tomorrow.

Soop, glad you are home and that things are progressing with your diagnosis and treatment. As others have said, you seem to be getting really good care.Time to rest and recharge before next weeks appointment.
Ann,glad that your husband managed a bite to eat and that you had company today. You are often in my thoughts?
Corner, wishing you a lovely afternoon with your surprise visitors.
Synonymous, you and your husband are often in my thoughts too.Sending strength and ?
Soop, glad you are home safely. The serious accident at Luss happened at 14:50 yesterday.
