This site seems to be becoming more and more unpleasant. I used to think of it like doing a crossword or glancing at a magazine with a coffee.....a nice and easy connection.

Its horrible ,especially fighting on a thread about a tragedy in NZ.

Ilovecheese Fri 15-Mar-19 14:58:22

There are surely plenty of threads to read for a nice and easy connection if that is what you are looking for.
Maybe avoid the threads about news and/or politics.

I thought it got quite heated and nasty so I didn’t post. I felt very sorry for Ellan Vannin when she got jumped on, poor woman. I’ve taken the decision to swerve some forums now Lily65

Some have a need to tell others what they can or cannot think or say.

Gonegirl Fri 15-Mar-19 15:30:36

I don't think we should talk about people on other threads.

Urmstongran Fri 15-Mar-19 15:32:57

Sorry. Got it wrong again it seems.

Gonegirl Fri 15-Mar-19 15:37:26

Don't be grumpy.

Gonegirl Fri 15-Mar-19 15:37:57

The thread will only get deleted anyway.

Urmstongran Fri 15-Mar-19 15:44:16

Well I’m not grumpy it just demonstrates how an opinion gets jumped on. Why will this thread get deleted?

If it does because of me I’m very sorry Lily65 I didn’t realise that there weee such rules. If there are.

Gonegirl Fri 15-Mar-19 15:46:59

Righto. Sigh. [shrug]

EllanVannin Fri 15-Mar-19 15:47:04

Urmstongran I'm so grateful to you x but sadly your reply wasn't what others wanted to see, if you get my drift as the whole opening thread was simply and purely aimed at me.

EllanVannin Fri 15-Mar-19 15:47:59

Pot-kettle-black @Lily65.

rosecarmel Fri 15-Mar-19 15:51:22

I don't know that turning away from a problem has ever solved a problem, but engaging in efforts to not make it worse seems to lean towards proceeding gently instead of matching one extreme act with another .. which is what silence and lack of action is .. at the opposite end of the spectrum of a brutal act ..

Urmstongran Fri 15-Mar-19 16:04:15

Fair point well made rosecarmel
But engaging with people isn’t easy when some are DETERMINED to jump on other’s viewpoints.

I’m just waiting for this forum to be taken down because I inadvertently posted and contravened some rule I didn’t even know existed. Then to compound the transgression I was unaware there was an underlying reason for the forum and naively entered into it.

EllanVannin Fri 15-Mar-19 16:18:05

Well clearly someone didn't like/approve of what I posted either. Then again the truth does hurt at times.

Lily65 Fri 15-Mar-19 16:28:55

Never mind. I don't know the rules, it just seems to be getting out of hand .

Anniebach Fri 15-Mar-19 16:48:20

Ellen happens to me often x

annep1 Fri 15-Mar-19 17:05:31

I'm feeling grumpy today and GN is making me worse.
Can people not be nice to each other.

NanaandGrampy Fri 15-Mar-19 17:08:06

I think being anonymous , hidden behind their keyboard lets people be far meaner to each other than if they were face to face.

EllanVannin Fri 15-Mar-19 17:15:09

Anniebach I'll look out for you. x

sodapop Fri 15-Mar-19 17:16:53

I would agree with you normally I lovecheese but the in fighting when so many people have died needlessly is appalling.
I like a robust forum but even I draw the line here.

Gonegirl Fri 15-Mar-19 17:17:33

NO being grumpy!!! wink grin

Gonegirl Fri 15-Mar-19 17:18:27

(That was to Annep1)

annep1 Fri 15-Mar-19 17:31:02

Maybe my fish fingers will do the trick!

Maggiemaybe Fri 15-Mar-19 17:31:06

I think the guideline Gonegirl's talking about is "we will delete threads about other ongoing threads, as it causes too much confusion on the forums".

I haven't seen the thread in question - I'm trying to cut down on social media during Lent so miss a lot these days. But I'd agree in general that GN is a bit bad-tempered at the moment. Perhaps it's the weather getting to people or ruddy Brexit.
