"Would you be surprised to hear that UK law protects single-sex, safe spaces for women – but many businesses and organisations think it doesn’t?"

https://resistersunited.org/visit-your-mp-for-international-womens-day/

Many, many single-sex spaces & services now state that they are open to anyone who 'identifies as' the relevant sex.
'Women-only' or 'female-only' now includes men who choose to call themselves women and who wish to use e.g. youth hostel dorms, hospital wards, swimming pool changing rooms, women's refuges etc.

Resisters United suggests that if we are concerned about this, we could visit our MPs or write to them to ask for government guidance on how the Equality Act can be kept workable and how single-sex spaces can remain just that.
Guidance on points to make is available on their website, linked above.

(btw, theyworkforyou.com is a great website for contacting our representatives, and will tell you who your MP is, if you don't know.)

I watched an interview with Charlie Martin this morning she (born he) is a racing driver and was before she changed also. She came over exceptionally well and explained some things I didn't realise. There are many genuine cases and we need to ensure they are not discriminated against.

I'd be interested to know what those things were, BRedhead59.

No point talking to my MP, Robert Courts of the ERG, about anything! I do send him emails, as does my husband, but don't think there would be any point in meeting him.

All the people saying there's no point meeting your MPs - you don't know until you try.

with all respect to the OP, just at this moment I would rather my MP was concentrating on other matters.

MPs work full-time. They manage to fit in thinking about a lot of things.

My MP, some years ago, was less than useless. Sadly.

They manage to fit in thinking about a lot of things FarNorth - she was SO less than useless that I struggle to comprehend what she might have been able to think about beyond where she might go on holiday or what shoes to put on in the morning!

FarNorth Mon 11-Mar-19 20:56:34

Sorry to hear that NotSpaghetti.

Please do contact your MP about this, if you want to see women's and girls' rights protected, alongside rights for trans people.

Standing up for women & girls is for always, not just for International Women's Day.
