Dear Lord and Father of Mankind
The Lord's my Shepherd, but to Brother James' Air
Sorry, but loathe How Great Thou art with a passion
I was organist/choirmistress at local Catholic church and midnight mass at Christmas was a pain - we came in to O Come all Ye Faithful, then during Holy Communion we had an annual choir setting of Adeste Fideles where I had to sing the tenor solo as our only man was totally deaf. Finally we finished with a congregational Adeste. The first year I discovered that this was the traditional order of service and said that once or at most twice was enough. I was shouted down with the immortal words, the answer to end any dispute, "But Father likes it". As it happens, Father also liked "How great thou art",so he and I did not get on too well!
