Lonely: One Week On!

To any who were kind enough to answer my 'Lonely' post last Sunday and PM me with lovely messages and offers of friendship.
Well, I just thank you all....
I read them all through again, Sunday evening and thought, "Come on Bam, get your act together."
I'm writing this, not only to let you know about my week but I'm hoping it may inspire all the others who felt the same last week.
So, on Monday morning I went shopping for the most delicious, healthy food, no stodge, no cakes, no chocolate.
Tuesday morning, hairdressers, where she asked are you having the usual and I said no, I would like a choppy cut and blonde high and low lights.
Have absolutely "bottomed" my house, not in a frantic way but in a relaxed way with my favourite CD 's playing.
Bought myself a new skin serum and a lovely moisturizer and spent time in the shower every day and getting myself ready, with relaxing music playing in the bedroom.
Been to my classes and just got on with it, without worrying if anyone spoke to me, everyone did!
I'm in contact with a lovely GN by PM and we really 'get ' each other.
Contacted my oldest friend in Australia, who I normally ring every few months and when she happily asked how I was, said, "Great!..........Well actually, I've been feeling a bit sad and lonely the last few days," she told me, that she very often felt extremely lonely and this woman is so ' together' it's not true. So we've decided to FaceTime once a week and I've arranged to go over for about a month next year.
I'm going to join more 'things ' and do more things and I'm definately going to the next Meetup Curry Night and Quiz night!
As an aside, while I was in the hairdressers, one of the little juniors, who I was chatting with, said, "Oh, you're so funny Bam, everyone loves it when you come in!"
And you know what, I am funny, and kind, and caring and a nice person.
So I deserve to treat myself as kindly as I treat others.

BamBam I read your lonely post last week and felt sad and also understanding.
Reaing your post today has made me happy because it is so beautifully positive.
You are a kind and gentle person and you reaching out is also making other people's lives better.
Well done you! (sunshine)

What a bright post BB! I read and felt so bad last week and could well imagine myself in your shoes.

Sounds like you've got your dancing shoes on now, and I'm so happy for you!

What a lovely post. Can I just say I found it interesting that everyone spoke to you. This is because you were glowing because of your changed attitude. How we feel inside shows on the outside. Anyway your post has made me smile so much. I hope others take note of it and follow your wonderful example x

How do I find the original 'Lonely' thread please?
Thank you!

Thanks for all your messages, I'm overwhelmed.
Last week was the first time that I had admitted to anyone that I sometimes felt lonely, it's almost as if there is a stigma attached to it.
It's a difficult thing to say to family, as then you're afraid they will worry and feel guilty. Although I do see quite a lot of them, especially my daughter but they're not there all the time and it's the days and weekends and Bank Holidays, when you think that everyone is busy with their family life or out with friends that I sometimes get a pang of loneliness.
Difficult to mention to friends as well as they may think you needy and I would cringe at that.
As I said in my earlier thread, I only have one friend now who lives reasonably close, we do go out for meals and go to the theatre, so it's not as if I have no life at all, I do.
I keep in contact with the friends who have moved away or abroad and visit them all at least once a year and one friend I am in contact by messenger practically every day, she's a social butterfly and I doubt has ever been lonely.
I'm so glad that I opened up on here last week, it helped a lot, that many people felt the same and also all the good advice gave me the boost I needed. Someone commented that "people aren't going to come knocking on your door, you know". Which was a bit of a telling off but made me smile and realise, I had to "do" something about it.
Yes! mancgirl, I am going to the Bolton meet up, so see you there!

Missed this post earlier but caught up now with M0nica’s prompt and well done Bambam for grabbing life by the scruff of the neck! It can be too easy sometimes to not try stuff and want everything to land at our feet but as I get older I know that if I want it to happen, I have to help things along.

I’m not naturally gregarious but have learned to smile, say hello and ask questions in most situations now that I’m older, whereas I’d sit and observe when younger which some would find standoffish and of course, that’s not conducive to making friends is it?

Also I happily compliment someone on their hair, nails, shoes whatever, when before I’d think it’s too personal - but who doesn’t like it when someone tells you that you look nice?

Hello! I've dug this thread out to give you a quick update.
Well, yesterday I went for lunch with my first Gransnetter. ?
We met at a Farm Cafe and could hardly order our meals as we were chatting "ten to the dozen".
We both just about crammed a life times experiences in a few hours. She is a member of a choir and has recommended I join one, there are quite a number near me, from Traditional, Musical Theatre, Pop & Modern to Gospel, so I will look into that.
We got on so well and have arranged to meet again in about a month. smile

Had a great time Bambam and look forward to our next jaunt !

I’m thinking about setting up a Manchester Granathon or whatever the “get togethers” are called ? Maybe we should visit the Bolton one or wherever is nearest to see how to get started ?

As we said, we all have lonely as well as lovely moments.... but connecting outside and offline is really important and makes me happy when feeling a bit blue... so glad we met each other... xx
