Meghan's Baby Shower.

The flowers from guests' bouquets and items from a 'flower arranging course' were reworked after the event by a firm that then passes them on to charity'.

I don't know what you think but having read details of the 'no expense spared' extravaganza, isn't this just a modern day version of 'crumbs from the rich man's table?'

I do think it's a good idea but I can't make up my mind about her motives. Showing off her vast wealth in the company of celebs like the Clooneys is not going to endear her to hard-up folk who normally turn out to support the Royals. Has nobody warned her it could all come crashing down?

hmm

Hilarious. Usual guff. Why couldn’t they come here ( why should they?) why didn’t she do that and this etc. She’s American and she has American friends, she’s entitled to spend some time in her home country doing what SHE wants with who ever she wants. She wasn’t working. It was a private trip. And the Clooneys dont have their home in the Cotswolds it Bucks. A bit like reading the Daily Mail here sometimes!

I am so fed up of hearing about Meghan markle, when you think of the stick Kate has been given over the years and yet that young woman rarely puts a foot wrong. As for Meghan I fear she is s very false young woman who is playing g a part as an actress and WHAT. Is with every picture having her hand on her bump! IMHO she won’t be round for long

If someone offered me a free shindig in the States on a private jet I'd go! Sadly, nobody has and nobody is likely too.

MM's gone to New York for a short break to see friends. She had royal protection officers who would have been with her had she been at home. She has her own money, which she worked for, same as many of of her US friends. We didn't pay for it, so we have little right to moan. As for flaunting the wealth, that's down to paps following her, and newspapers buying their photos. I'm sure she'd be thrilled if she could have just met friends quietly. And given that, other than her mother, her family seems unusual, it must be really good for her, as a mum-to-be, to keep older friendships going - same as for the rest of us.

Lily65 Sat 23-Feb-19 09:49:36

I feel that as somebody in the public eye, when so many people are struggling she should conduct herself in a different way.

If she had wanted a quiet get together there are ways of doing this.

I'm with paddyann on this. Baby showers seem rather "graspy" to me.

My daughter-in-law had one and I was expected to go, so I did. I have since told everyone in the family that although they are welcome to have them (obviously) they are not to ask me.

I've just read this back and it makes me sound grumpy. I'm not grumpy about it - and love to know people I love are enjoying themselves - but the whole format is just not me, and no-one minds if I absent myself !

I can understand why MM wanted a baby shower. This could be her only baby so I think she wanted a baby shower as it is her tradition in her country. Her rich friends wanted to give her one so she went “home” to enjoy it and not upset her new family. It was the press that were making a big fuss and the only photos I saw were of MM and her high profile friends going in and out of the hotel.

The photos of the gifted flowers I would have thought were instigated by the charity that organises these donations and were in very poor taste.

I live outside the UK and the Brit’s enjoy celebrating Guy Fawkes, the Queens Birthday, st George’s, st Andrews, st Patricks and st David’s day and many other British traditions which they would not celebrate in the UK. Also ignoring this countries celebrations. MM takes part in all our traditions and some of the events must be a bit boring so let the woman have a Baby Shower without all this criticism.

NotSpaghetti Sat 23-Feb-19 09:56:27

Re Megan Markle, maybe the shower could have knitted some octopuses for an ICU - that would perhaps have been a more "charitable" activity than the flower thing.
I think I will suggest this to future "Baby shower planbers"! smile

Independently wealthy American woman can pay for her own security not the British tax payer

Wendiwoo Sat 23-Feb-19 10:00:43

You and I don’t know her, and for whatever reason, the press want to show her in a negative light.

The Queen showing her collection of Leonardo da Vinci drawings isn’t “flaunting her wealth”? Oh no, sorry, she’s “sharing it with the nation”.

Barmeyoldbat Sat 23-Feb-19 10:01:05

Nothing wrong with er visiting her American friends BUT what cost was the security to the taxpayers,, air flights, accommodation, etc plus did any staff go with her. To be honest I am fed up with MM and her flashy way of life. Whats more I am fed up seeing every picture of her holding her stomach with that stupid look on her face. Rant over.

Anniebach Sat 23-Feb-19 10:03:27

An exhibition of art is not the same as a baby shower surely

Eloethan Sat 23-Feb-19 10:13:13

Other members of the royal family are given security so why is there such animosity of Meghan Markle? The monarchical system in its entirety is wrong, in my opinion. Why pick on one woman? It's becoming very much like a vendetta against her.

Perhaps the Americans will now temper their enthusiasm for all things royal, having seen the sort of spite and snobbery that has been aimed at an "outsider".

Anniebach Sat 23-Feb-19 10:18:18

Snobbery ? Certaintly not. I do like to see the royal family conducting themselves in public with dignity .

Oldwoman70 Sat 23-Feb-19 10:18:46

The flights, accommodation etc. were not paid for by the British taxpayer. She would have had security with her if she had met friends in a London hotel and as she flew on a private plane (paid for by her friends) there was no cost for flights for her security detail.

Oh dear!!! Such a lot of Meghan bashers on this thread. Face it, she was Harry's choice, she did not coerce him by being pregnant, He had his pick of women, who were probably falling over themselves to get him. In the old days somebody with a title from a neighbouring country would have been picked out for him, no love involved. As for Kate, she is English, and her thinking is English, so she is much more attuned to our way of life, so we like her. Megan will have to learn gradually about British ways and she will always be foreign... But she is Harry's choice.
As for baby showers, I grew up in South Africa and they were done there even 60 years ago. I was invited to one. The gifts were very simple, things like baby powder, a rattle, nappies etc. You wont get that now, even in Britain.

Lily65 Sat 23-Feb-19 10:26:56

The queen conducts herself with such dignity and has served the country. The cost of Meghan's clothes is eyewatering and the baby shower thing is just grabby.

GabriellaG54 Sat 23-Feb-19 10:28:37

A disgusting show of wealth by disgusting people who talk the talk about carbon footprints and reducing waste and plastic, yet it doesn't apply to them. Oh no. All the gifts MM brought back to the UK were wrapped in plastic and the security who accompanied her were using thousands of air miles, as was she and the 'friends' who attended.
I have no time for them. Don't open your mouth if you don't practice what you preach. angry

4allweknow Sat 23-Feb-19 10:31:52

Don't worry Maggiemaybe you are obviously on the list for the UK one which will be much more low, less brash than the USA one. Sophistication is the word.

Jaycee5 Sat 23-Feb-19 10:38:41

Eleothan. I agree. They should just put up a weekly 'let's all say why we hate Megan Markle* post and be honest about it.
There is nothing she could do that people would approve of. Her charity is the wrong kind of charity done in the wrong way. Diana got it when she went to see where landmines were being removed.
She wears the wrong clothes and, despite being pregnant, hasn't recycled them and re-worn them yet. Her hair is wrong, her shoes are wrong, her clothes are too tight, she touches her bump.
There is so much of it that it is cruel. She is obviously aware of it as people like Clooney have spoken out. She is clearly trying.
I would vote against the royal family if we had a referendum on it, but there is no point in blaming the family themselves.

Ngaio1 Sat 23-Feb-19 10:45:49

The baby shower - beastly things - just affirm what a grasping, showy woman she is. Poor Harry is still mesmerised and desperate to have a family but Me Me Meghan will lead him a merry dance I am sure.

Anniebach Sat 23-Feb-19 10:48:44

Kate had more media flack than Megan, her mother mocked for being an air hostess, Kate called Waity Katey, even accused of choosing St,Andrews University to snare William. Throughout it all she remained silent , and still does. Dignity .

From Megan, she informed the world ‘ I am going to hit the ground running ‘.

Margs Sat 23-Feb-19 10:50:07

These babyshowers make my hair almost stand on end - my Ma's generation believed that giving baby things and gathering the necessary whatnots required for a baby's arrival was just too much like tempting fate.

But maybe because miscarriages, stillbirths and general infant mortality was pretty much par for the course when she was a young mum.

Thankfully medical practices have advanced and improved in leaps and bounds since then.

123coco Sat 23-Feb-19 10:50:11

Jaycee5. Couldn’t agree with you more. What a lot of bitter sour hateful women on here. Makes you wonder what’s going on in their loves and hearts. The words get a life spring to mind. I suspect it’s because she is American. Shock. Horror. Probably want the empire back as well. But why so utterly nasty? And regards charity, what do all you moaners do. And it’s ok for Wills and Kate to fly to Europe in the Duke of Westminster’s private plane. And do you not think they haven’t been on Pippas husbands private jet!!!
