Good afternoon from sunny Devon, rain overnight but fine by the time I went shopping this morning. Blood Test done ready for Annual Diabetes Review next week. Lazyish afternoon, just had Lunch, I'm going to enjoy my afternoon sitting indoors reading admiring the sunshinesmile

DoraMarr, peely wally where I come from, in the Glasgow area, has always meant, pale and sickly looking, and being quiet and not making a fuss.
It just shows how language and meanings vary in different reas.

NanKate Mon 04-Feb-19 14:44:35

Thanks Mary and Dora what wonderful expressive words. Yes a thread on local expressions would be good.

DoraMarr Mon 04-Feb-19 13:42:52

NanKate my late mother in law used dreich, among quite a wide range of lowland Scots words ( she was from Fife.) I woke up this morning feeling decidedly “peely-wally”, which is a great portmanteau word meaning “ a bit poorly, but making a bit of a fuss about it.” Perhaps I should add her sayings to the thread “things my mother said.”

We must be lucky, it’s 8C and lovely sunshine today! Trying to choose new wallpaper, then picking grandchildren up from school. Cleared a couple of drawers out too, keeping on track of one drawer or cupboard a day!

Marydoll Mon 04-Feb-19 11:57:48

Hi Kate, dreich is a great word to describe the weather.
Wet, dull, gloomy, dismal, dreary or any combination of these. Scottish weather at its most miserable!

NanKate Mon 04-Feb-19 11:56:11

Message to all our lovely Scottish members. What do you mean when you say Dreich, it comes up regularly and I am flummoxed ?

Kim19 Mon 04-Feb-19 11:55:49

Morning all (just made it). My exciting news is that I've just hung a washing out in full sunshine and a fair old breeze. How easily pleased am I?!

Chino Mon 04-Feb-19 11:52:33

Morning all from South Staffordshire- rain first thing but now dry and cloudy and no frost last night thank goodness

Going to my keep fit class this afternoon and then a visit to the library to choose some more books for myself

Marydoll Mon 04-Feb-19 11:51:49

Welcome Hymnbook, you probably won't get many replies on this specific threads to your question.
It would be best to start a thread of your own and make sure the title has Nottinghamshire in it. www.gransnet.com/forums/meet_ups_where_are_you

Good luck!

Are there any ladies in my area who would like to meet up for coffee lunch etc. Nottinghamshire. Looking to make new friends

Hymnbook Mon 04-Feb-19 11:37:59

Morning just about. Windy here in Nottinghamshire. It has brightened up from earlier. Feeling lazy was going to the library will go Wednesday instead. Hate not having a book to read.

Dear Susan56, I went for screening last week. Don't enjoy it at all but it's not actually painful so feel guilty about moaning. Just being in a waiting room with lots of other elderly people is depressing. Have good intentions about smartening myself up.
Good morning to everyone. Condolences to Maw. Dreary weather here in East London.

CaroleAnne Mon 04-Feb-19 11:20:40

Hello everyone. Today in Warminster it is drizzling and very grey.
A sad day for you Maw but glad to know that you will have the company of your daughter.flowers
We are having our hallway decorated today. The decorator is using a water based paint as I am affected by the oil based ones.
My best wishes to Dora and anyone else who has a hospital appointment.
Wishing you all a pleasant day.wine

Very wet so far in E10; I prefer cold and sunny. Have done my little bit of Spanish for the day then off to tennis at lunchtime. Waiting at the moment to see if our dodgy painter is coming back to do the snagging but doubt if we'll see him again. Will be picking up GD later to bring her back here as DD's house still a building site.

Good morning everyone from County Durham. So pleased to be home after yesterday's late return from Stirling but seeing GD1 dancing in her ballet was well worth it. Such an outstanding ballet school and the performance by all was amazing.
Kitchen has finally arrived today so let another new journey begin.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss Maw and thinking of you today.
Stay safe and warm all.

Susan56 Mon 04-Feb-19 10:09:54

Good morning all. After a night of heavy rain,it’s lovely and bright this morning.Got diabetic eye screening at midday which I am grateful to have but still dread.
Thinking of everyone facing a difficult day today.

Marydoll smile
Good times

Marydoll Mon 04-Feb-19 09:27:44

Grammaretto, I love going to Celtic Connections.
When I was teaching, my colleagues and I would race out of school, catch the train to town, (well we couldn't forego a glass of wine) go for a pre-theatre meal and then to a free Celtic connections event.
Happy memories. smile

Good morning Mick and all. A bit dull and damp in Lancashire but said to improve this afternoon. Meeting 2 friends for lunch, looking forward to it.
Have a good day everyone.

EllanVannin Mon 04-Feb-19 09:08:33

Good morning All x
Not a bad day so far and certainly not as cold as it was.
Up fairly early getting my jobs done as I'll be on my way out shortly.
It'll make a change to get out after it being bad underfoot.
Hope all is well with everyone. Stay safe.

Anniebach Mon 04-Feb-19 09:06:37

Good morning all, snow now gone and a grey day to come. Condolences to Mawbroon, and I’m glad you have company on the journey. I will phone to see if there is work at the charity shop today (perhaps lots of donations have come in) and go to the Post Office with some documents. Haven’t driven the car in nearly a week. Best wishes to everyone.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 04-Feb-19 08:53:33

Good morning Anniebach, Mick and all x

Thinking of you Maw?

Wet, grey and windy in SE Essex, nothing planned for today. Missing the gym but back still sore.

Keep warm and safe folks ☔️☔️

Grammaretto Mon 04-Feb-19 08:52:24

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Dreich today but not cold and all the snow is away.
The concert in Glasgow was terrific. So glad we made the effort.
Sad for you Maw it's extra hard when it's people of our generation or younger flowers

I'll be chasing up tradesmen this week.
