CanadianGran welcome. I've been to Canada several times, wonderful country, just love it and love how polite and tolerant you Canadians are.

I had to smile at your interest in Brexit! I venture to say (though I'll be contradicted I'm sure) that most people in the UK don't really understand the way it's gone! It's the biggest constitutional crisis for decades if not centuries. It's hard to know what the outcome will be and I suspect it will be a generation before things settle down and hindsight shows whether leaving the EU (if we do) was a good move or not. Breath held here along with a feeling of powerlessness!

Welcome CanadianGran you are not alone in not understanding Brexit- my feeling is that many supposedly running the country do not either.

I'm in Waitakere, New Zealand and know nothing about politics and have no interest in the subject at all.

I spent a few months in Canada in the 90's, as a chaperone to a group of air force cadets. What we saw of Canada was lovely, as were the people who hosted us.

My mum was from Jersey, and I still have relations there,so I am a wee bit familiar with British customs and culture. Although she would defend that she was not English when asked about her accent and go into a long explanation of where Jersey was...Not New Jersey!

Back to Brexit, from what I understand there was referendum a few years ago to exit the EU, but now there is resistance to leaving and Ms May's deal was rejected. I am trying to be worldly and honestly I think its a bit of a relief on the news to get a break from the circus that is happening to our southern neighbours. I will follow along with interest.

Welcome to GN CanadianGran. You may not have an equivalent to GN in Canada but you do live in an amazing country, we were on holiday there two years ago and we found the scenery stunning.

Brexit is interesting and l think that May is a very clever woman. Britain is more than capable of standing alone,we once owned most of Europe.
If she eventually gets the people’s vote we will be an island to be reckoned with.

Perhaps you can follow our brexit circus and explain it to us.
Unfortunately although half the nation thought they wanted to go it alone etc and it sounded attractive, the rest of Europe don't actually care that much. We will miss them more than they will miss us. A very expensive divorce.
Back to the real world....
Our own worries and knotty problems can easily be ironed out once tackled by the GNetters.

I have never been to Canada, but would love to visit one day. My Niece maybe seconded over there with her job this year for 12 months, so it maybe my chance to visit!

Welcome. Love Canada and backpacked there for many weeks. I also 'trained' right across Canada stopping at Winnipeg for a while (marvellous Museum of Human Rights there) flew up to Churchill for a while then back to Winnipeg and over to Vancouver. Lots of my cousins there. Am currently looking at an Alaska trip for next year.

Why not pop into soops kitchen and introduce yourself there?
