Gestures, come on, admit that you use them!

I have a very limited hand gesture vocabulary now I come to think of it. The only time I use hand gestures is when I'm driving and the numpty in front of me suddenly decides he's going to turn without indicating. Or pull out into the stream of traffic without indicating. Or suddenly anchors up to reverse into the space he's just spotted a few cars length back. Other than that.... nope!

My lovely dad would have chuckled took his pencil from his shirt pocket and in as quick as flash my faux pas would be a cartoon.

And sad to say now profoundly dead as well as deaf!

Seeing M, I was completely to see how many of M's gestures were identical to his fathers!

However, I digress, in the op I was referring to those gestures that some of us use instead of words!

Ahh now there’s a difference: I use my hands a lot while talking but I don’t use gestures when on my own like describe in the original post

I do the oven glove thing but move my backwards and forward a bit like doing the sign for a train but my arms work in unison.

Nope don't do gestures. My husband does enough for both of us. Sometimes I get him to sit on his hands and see if he can talk without them.

I do the scissors, the tea tipping thing, the oven glove action while turning in a circle and loads of others but too hard to describe on here.
Talk with my hands in conversation also.

Oh yes - I guessed the oven gloves action Phoenix. I do the scissor action, the T sign, scribble action when looking for a pen, patting myself down when I've mislaid my glasses (again) and rattle invisible keys when they've gone missing.

What does bother me though is when I can't remember words for the most basic things and resort to having to describe them, often with accompanying actions.

Oh ga I had forgotten the scribble one! That is quite frequent in this house! (Where do all the pens go? Thank heavens for Alexa, I can ask her to make a "note" of it until I find something to write with!

There is one I do. Hands up in despair when the driver in front is too slow moving out!

Don't know if anyone saw it but there was a very funny stand up routine a few years ago, and it involved people tapping their wrist to indicate they wanted to know the time and making that phone shape near their ears to indicate they'd phone you.

I haven't explained it very well but it was funny to realise these are universally (maybe?) accepted signs we make. I know OH and I do the tipping to mouth drink thing some evenings to suggest it's G&T time

I am told that I would not be able to talk if my hands were tied to my body, but that is general waving, pointing to add emphasis.

I think I punctuate with my hands rather than speak with them.
