Mr P!

I phoned him recently to say that he would need to drive to were I work, because I couldn't get all of the Amazon delivery parcels in my car.

He asked "why?"

Errm, because the parcels were quite large, and my car (a Smart Roadster) is very small. tchconfused

Then, 2 days later in Lidl, when we had a 6 pack bottle of water in the shopping, I said "I may have to open one of those in a minute"

Again he asked "Why?"

I could have replied that I had forgotten to have a shower before coming out, and was worried that my personal hygiene might not be up to standard, or that my skin was suddenly feeling so dry that only an instant topical application of water would save me from becoming a wrinkled old crone that very moment, but it was actually because I was thirsty!

And breathe...................

I apologise for my rants, all I can say is that not being male I just can't seem to master the clear and lateral train of thought that you men adhere to so well. I'm not even blonde so I can't use that as an excuse, well I was once for a couple of months, although if I were permanently,I'm sure I'd be far worse than this confused

Apologies also to Phoenix for one of those involved in taking this thread off into such ridiculous alleys and tangents, and deviating from the original spirit of the thread. I must sign off now before I spontaneously combust shock

Eurghhh!

How to ruin good Drambuie.
Bonny Prince Charlie will be turning in his grave ?

MawBroon Wed 19-Dec-18 21:19:20

You’ve been told twice Grandad
Unless you have multiple identities (which is I think against GN guidelines, and you’d know all about regs and regulations) this is not you

message Hellsgrandad Tue 18-Dec-18 12:55:11
I've been reading through this thread with absolute disbelief. Why are so many of you so insulting and disparaging of your men?
You really don't deserve us !

Grandad1943 Wed 19-Dec-18 22:13:51

Mawbroon, I had signed off and was wallowing in my new GN title over a lovely Drambuie when you shattered my dreams. There is an original Hellsgrandad, and I am heartbroken.

However, I will perhaps now PM Hellsgrandad, and we can coordinate against all the Misandry on this forum. That should not be necessary, but most definitely is. hmm

Listagran, you enquired if my retirement planned for October was cancelled due to Brexit. However, I have to stated several times on this forum that it was cancelled due to a longstanding senior member of staff contracting Ovarian Cancer. She had just gained her higher IOSH industrial safety accreditations that would have allowed her to take over all my responsibilities in the company. In that, we have learned this week that she is now gravely ill.

The above is why yesterday I was encouraging staff to view this thread and have a laugh to raise their spirits. It is also why I genuinely thanked the forum for raising the morale in the office on what was a bleak day, and still do.

I know you will dislike what I am going to say but I actually find using the illness of a colleague to make your point distasteful and I can honestly say that if you want to genuinely ' raise the spirits' of your colleagues then showing them your posts on gransnet may in actual fact be seen quietly by your co workers as a tad narcissistic . Your constant ' need' for your co workers to agree with your position may not be as you imagine it is,.

I remember a fellow worker who used to write to our local paper and organisations always bloody complaining about something or the other. He regularly got his letters printed or replies from this , that or tuther organisation and he would bring them to work for everybody to see and hear of his ' achievements'. At least he thought it was an achievement others just nodded politely and patronisingly went along with a man who became the office bore. Naturally he was totally unaware of this but no doubt in his mind the thought would never have even his head.

Men are just so hopeless, but we still love them, I wouldn't give mine up for no one.... we are both in our seventies and nothing much has changed over the years,, men will be men....

TerriBull Thu 20-Dec-18 07:34:04

POGS, my thoughts exactly regarding your comments in paragraph 3. Having lost a good friend to ovarian cancer recently, I found Gd's referral to that specific condition his colleague is now in the advanced stages of,
somehow inappropriate and a bit laboured. It's really a private matter pertaining to her and whilst it might be a subject for a specific thread about illness or bereavement , one can't know whether the colleague would want her illness mentioned in a public forum, somehow it came across as being used the wrong context and tad manipulative.

Grandad1943 Thu 20-Dec-18 07:49:41

Pogs, if people wish to set themselves up as targets by posting their outdated misandry views on this forum, then if that can be used to lift the spirits of others, then I say "so be it".

Anniebach Thu 20-Dec-18 09:07:07

Office staff laughed at a thread which spoke of a woman suffering ovarian cancer ?

Sick

Barmeyoldbat Thu 20-Dec-18 09:16:14

What I thought was a light hearted post has gone on to be some rambling by someone who has nothing else to do at work than cause a stir would retire as he obviously has nothing much to do at work.

Anniebach Thu 20-Dec-18 09:19:37

It certaintly isn’t an office where the staff have much to do

TerriBull Thu 20-Dec-18 10:13:39

Of course stalking the corridors of GN looking for examples of misandry to out women as covert men haters, could be deemed by some as misogynistic in itself, hence the laboured examples of empathetic behaviour towards women to counter balance that theory.

Nevertheless, and having sons, I have been well aware of misandry, it does of course exist, not good. However, a distinction should be made between taking a dig at one's other half's foibles, which may fall into distinct "male/female" behaviours or simply be part of the human condition. I would also add, since being on GN pretty much since its inception, I know that at it's best it's a fantastic support network There are those on this site who have suffered devastating losses in their life, losses that are so crushing, I'm not sure I'd be able to pick myself up of the floor again. Humour threads can and are great for the morale and if they help get some people through the day then I think that's a good thing. There's something pretty petty and miserable in monitoring this site with the express purpose of looking for perceived insults to men, Which frankly it's nothing in comparison to the tidal wave that is, and has alway been there to batter women. Quite honestly we are entering a world that is well on the way to becoming so asinine in it's slant to inclusivity, and what you can and can't say, it makes me shudder. Taking all that into consideration, maybe it's a reflection of where we are today that we have a man popping up here to police perceived non pc comments on what is primarily, as the name suggests, a site for women set up by women, not that it sets out to preclude men. It does nevertheless make me shudder for what is coming down the line. As the stand up comedian who was recently banned from the SOAS campus found out, when he declined to sign an agreement of subjects, that practically covered everything, that he couldn't veer into, humour is often at the expense of others. I know I think the world of my husband, he's absolutely the best person I know, humour has always driven our relationship along, we laugh out ourselves and our own idiosyncrasies as much as we laugh at each other, sometimes falling into what could be deemed stereotypical male/female foibles. Which is undoubtedly the main thrust of this thread, before it was derailed into a politically correct dressing down all wrapped up under the guise of office bonhomie.

Anniebach Thu 20-Dec-18 10:18:35

Best one I heard was when a friends mother visited her son in Canada and left her OH at home .He phoned her late at night to ask "how many sugars do I take in my tea" he never lived that down

GrannyGravy13 Thu 20-Dec-18 13:51:41

Love the replies ladies.

Some people need to boost their egos, unbearable as that may be, my eyes glaze over and I usually skip the long rambling often repeated posts.
