Mr P!

I phoned him recently to say that he would need to drive to were I work, because I couldn't get all of the Amazon delivery parcels in my car.

He asked "why?"

Errm, because the parcels were quite large, and my car (a Smart Roadster) is very small. tchconfused

Then, 2 days later in Lidl, when we had a 6 pack bottle of water in the shopping, I said "I may have to open one of those in a minute"

Again he asked "Why?"

I could have replied that I had forgotten to have a shower before coming out, and was worried that my personal hygiene might not be up to standard, or that my skin was suddenly feeling so dry that only an instant topical application of water would save me from becoming a wrinkled old crone that very moment, but it was actually because I was thirsty!

And breathe...................

Whenever Grandad43 is annoyed with women on Gransnet, he falls back on the old ‘ we are all falling about here at the office at all the daft comments’ ......highly unbelievable and have never known anyone to spend so much time ostensibly at work but actually trawling Gransnet.hmm Bucket of salt needed let alone a pinch.

TerriBull Wed 19-Dec-18 14:31:05

lemongrove, I don't know about you but I'm suffering from office envy after Grandadof43's jolly missives about life in his workplace, a space that is seemingly juxtaposed somewhere between an industrious hive of activity and it's frequent warm bonding sessions gathered around a computer screen to find out what's going on GN! It is possible however that these bonding sessions are becoming a bit too frequent and Grandadof43, gets to 5pm and finds he's done sod all not accomplished as much as he would like to have done, hence the long late hours into the night when he and his colleagues get down to a hard hour's graft sad Nevertheless, one can't help noticing Grandad's mood seems to improve as the day wears on, it's quite evident that his stern Misandry and Inclusivity Officer persona morphs into what appear to be something akin to the late Hughie Green, thanking us for lifting the spirits of his team and lightening the load of a long tough day, reiterating that he means that most sincerely. {warm glow emoticon] as the virtual sparkle right there in his eye pings right off the page.

Thank you Grandad for making our pre Christmas so special tchsmile

Jalima1108 Wed 19-Dec-18 15:58:42

Or Windsor Castle so near Heathrow
that has always puzzled me
and Hampton Court Palace

Why would you want to site a palace near an airport? confused

By the way - update on the Poundland daft question - I passed our £ shop today and it is not Poundland, it's something else and it clearly says in several places on the outside 'Everything £1'.
Should I go back and ask for a refund of 29p?
Or is that a Stupid Question?

Jalima1108 Wed 19-Dec-18 16:06:06

Terribull That is such a lovely post and a truly lovely message to Grandad.
It has brought tears to my eyes.

tchsmile

Grandad1943 Wed 19-Dec-18 17:41:36

Lemongrove, Terribull, in regard to your above posts, well, perhaps it would have been nice to be in that warm office today having a laugh on intervals at the posts in this thread. However, I have instead been out of there and in cold empty warehouses in Severnside where we are setting up safety regimes ready for the stockpiling of tinned and dry food due to the uncertainties of Brexit, and it is that which is making us so busy.

However, now I am back I have just looked at your above posts in this thread and once again had a good chuckle. However, in that, you both speak of my alleged misogyny on this forum, when my recent activity demonstrates the complete opposite. As can be witnessed in the "Leadership Thread" (News & Politics), Jenny Formby the General Secretary of the Labour party was being accused by a forum member of obtaining that position by way of being in a sexual relationship with Len McCluskey.

In the above, I pointed out the thirty-five-year career of Jenny Formby which had taken her to the very top within what was a very male-dominated Trade Union Movement at the beginning of that career. All that was prior to her involvement in a partnership with Len McCluskey. Therefore, I was the only forum member to take the trouble to point out the groundbreaking work that Formby has done on behalf of women's equality, which is hardly the actions of someone who wallows in misogyny I would suggest.

However, in the above, should anyone wish to trawl back through the posts of this thread they will witness that Misandry is very much prevalent in this forum. In that, this thread contains many posts where women refer to their male partners and husbands in a context of an idiot or that of a pet poodle. Those forum members then try to excuse that under the heading of humour.

The above makes those who post in such a manner a subject of humour and laughter in its own right, as was the case in our office yesterday (18/12/18).

Perhaps the above may also be the reason why some now "infiltrate" this forum the take the proverbial p*ss.

HellsGrandad.

MawBroon Wed 19-Dec-18 17:52:32

OMG
Thank goodness there are some selfless people out there keeping us safe, fed and watered when that dreaded day comes.
Their selfless sacrifice is breathtaking and indeed humbling and may their name forever be praised.
And to think at the same time the dual aims of Misandry and Inclusivity are not being neglected.
Who indeed are you kidding Mister Hitler, if you think Old England’s Done?

Anniebach Wed 19-Dec-18 18:04:30

Jenny Formby was a branch secretary, I have no idea when her relationship with McClusky started, their son was born in 1991, she became a Transport and General Workers Union regional officer in 1998 . Is a branch secretary or a regional officer the very top of a career in the unions

Anniebach Wed 19-Dec-18 18:09:41

And I never said Formby got to be General Secretary of the Labour .psrty because she slept with McCluskey, I did say two women who were tops in the Labour Party were close to McCkuskey and one was the mother of his son, the point being the UNION runs the party

TerriBull Wed 19-Dec-18 18:47:31

Grandad, it's really heartening to hear how you are toiling away, single handedly in a cold warehouse somewhere in the back of beyond stockpiling food, doing your bit for the Brexit effort. It sounds so retro, do you think we will be digging up parks and turning them into allotments? Maybe golf courses, I do hope so, Mr B has so much trouble out there trying locate his balls, I just feel life could be far less taxing for him if he could just spend his time trying to cultivate a few turnips and sprouts, at least he'd be doing something for the greater good like you. One does so admire a man with a porpoise May I ask is Spam included amongst those items to be stockpiled? I find I just can't live without it, I've got my own stash in for Christmas, yum!

However a word of warning, I still can't help feeling you're on a slippery slope as far as GN is concerned, it's clear you are checking in at regular intervals and that's a digression from what appears to be a singlehanded effort to save us from a doomsday scenario. Let me tell you this, before I discovered GN I used to be an active get up and go sort of womax, now I'm addicted to this wretched website I'm in my dressing gown most of the day, housework piles up around me. When my other half returns from a hard day's graft at his golf club, he walks into a house where the step remains unpolished and wet washing piled up waiting to be put through the mangle. "What have you be doing all day" he's prone to yap in that irritating poodle like way of his. So addicted am I, I've barely the energy to chuck him a Bonio before retires to his comfy basket, lined with that foul extremist publication "The Times" which generally sends him off to sleep, so out of my hair thank goodness, which incidentally is still in rollers sad

Try and wean yourself off gradually, or alternatively maybe stroll over to our much bigger sister MN particularly with your misandry theories and test the waters there. Feisty doesn't even begin to describe the womex over there. Be sure to have your hard hat on it's not for the faint hearted, even if you are a MAN! Good luck smile

Barmeyoldbat Wed 19-Dec-18 18:48:48

Sometimes my OH goes to bed first, I then come up later and start getting into bed and he "is that you (my name)......" who the hell does he think it is or wish.

Grandad1943 Wed 19-Dec-18 19:15:08

Anniebach, Jenny Formby's career in the Trade Union Movement was, activist while employed at William Hill the Bookmakers in the early 1970s

Was then elected as Shop Steward for Transport & General Workers Union (TGWU) while employed at British Oxegen. Something unheard of for a women in the 1970s

Elected as Branch Secretary for a Petro Chemical Road Tanker Transport Branch which was still a lay position but again no women had held such a position at that time.

While holding those positions, Formby acquired the accreditations necessary to become a full time employed District Organiser in the Southampton office for the food and drink sector TGWU.

Formby was then appointed National Coordinating organiser for the above sector in the mid-1980s and was then Quickly appointed Regional Secretary for what was to amalgamate into the Unite Union. That position is the highest that can be obtained while employed in regional offices.

Formby was then appointed National Political Organiser in the TGWU and then Unite Union Central office London.

Formby was then elected by the 48 person Labour Party National Executive Committee as General Secretary of the whole Labour movement a position. Jenny Formby has achieved great success in the first few months in that job of by way of significantly improving procedure and communication between the Labour Party and the wider labour movement in the country for which she had received wide praise.

Some women I believe anniebach, and many other women have progressed in careers in the labour movement in the wake of the groundbreaking that Jenny Formby carried out through all the above years in what was an almost totally dominated male environment in those early years.

What you started about Jenny Formby can be witnessed in the thread I referred to above Anniebach

Grandad1943 Wed 19-Dec-18 19:29:09

Terri Bull, where did I state I was "toiling away single-handed" in a cold warehouse? There are dozens of people working on the site and we are responsible for setting up the safety regime amongst all the chaos.

Likewise as my record on this forum will demonstrate i sometimes post prior to going to work on a morning and then on an evening on return. I sometimes post while on a coffee break but not that often.

I did prior to October post more regularly when I THOUGHT I was about to retire, but that did not happen due to events.

So where is my addiction? grin

Lisagran Wed 19-Dec-18 19:35:47

Terribull - your post at 18.47 cheered me up no end tchgrin

MawBroon Wed 19-Dec-18 19:40:50

in cold empty warehouses in Severnside
certainly gave the (noble ) impression of selfless toil. Don’t spoil the image ?

phoenix Wed 19-Dec-18 20:14:55

And to think this thread started as "The Award For The Most Stupid Question" !

May I refer you back to previous post I made, regarding an award for messing up what was supposed to be a light hearted thread?

Anniebach Wed 19-Dec-18 20:18:25

Bookmakers ? Oh I am so against bookies and betting

TerriBull Wed 19-Dec-18 20:19:46

Ooops you said "we", so clearly that implies there may be one more besides you Grandad, or quite possibly thousands. Well thousands would be good, I mean "warehouse" and "people" you could have a rave when you've finished stockpiling. Warehouses were where my boys disappeared to for such events, although I have to say they didn't go to ingest wholesome tinned food or do anything worthwhile for the fellow human being, more's the pity hmm

Apologies Granddad I'll plead "Menopausal brain fog" that usually covers any older wimminz gaffes. Shame you men can't edge in on that one, misandrianic I know (not sure that's even a word, but if not, it should be) anyway who knows what the future might bring. I gather boys are about to be told they could well start their periods anytime soon, well at least in the wonderful utopia that is Brighton, so perhaps future generations of all the 16 sexes can also look forward to the deep joy that is the menopause. Brain fog, hot flushes can be available to all. What a wonderful enlightened world we're entering sunshine

Hey ho enjoy the stockpiling and think about rounding off the evening with a rave, but it won't be any good if you turn up to the office swivel eyed next day. Yeah your colleagues might not be any the wiser, but believe me we on GN will know cos we is wimmin and wimmin have intuition and men don't sad for you all about that but that's the way it is I'm afraid.

Are you addicted, I'd say yes, and badly. You could try going cold turkey at Christmas though grin

MawBroon Wed 19-Dec-18 20:35:03

I thought cold ? Turkey was for Boxing Day?

Anniebach Wed 19-Dec-18 20:37:14

Maw. ?

Grandad1943 Wed 19-Dec-18 20:45:33

TerriBull, in posting your above "rants" which bear no reference to anything discussed on this thread, it is clear that something has got under your skin in that you cannot enter into any rational discussion.

So I will accept the bestowed title which yourself and another forum member bestowed on me and which went down so well in our office yesterday and sign off.

A nice Drambuie and soda should allow me at the end of a long to wallow in my new forum name which I am considering asking NGHQ to make official.

So, Hellsgrandad signing off and hoping that the entertainment that this thread has given all in our office will continue tomorrow when i am back there for the whole day (hopefully).

lemongrove Wed 19-Dec-18 20:46:15

tchgrin Terri and Maw

lemongrove Wed 19-Dec-18 20:49:15

Grandad you are labouring under a misconception ( oh heck! Am talking like you now.) grin
Hellsgrandad is actually a GN member ( not you) unless you now have two accounts on GN.
It is not, repeat not, a name members have given you

TerriBull Wed 19-Dec-18 20:52:51

It's generally cold turkey on Boxing Day Maw. However, as we now know, cos he tells us daily, Grandad is working flat out on the Christmas run up, preparing the stockpiling of tinned food in warehouses and underground bunkers. It all sounds hellish shock clearly such a monumental task is bound to overrun, by the time he finally gets home it'll be late Christmas Day and the turkey will be cold sad

lemongrove Wed 19-Dec-18 20:55:59

I’ll be happy with some corned beef hash and a mug of Ovaltine.

Lisagran Wed 19-Dec-18 21:04:01

I did prior to October post more regularly when I THOUGHT I was about to retire, but that did not happen due to events

Was Brexit the cause of your non-retirement, Grandad1943?
