Is it just me? or does anyone else feel irritated when you tell a friend or relative something, for example, “I nearly missed my flight after getting caught in traffic. It ended up such a rush at the airport & the reply is “What a shame” or if texting similar, getting same reply, what a shame. Thats just an example ?

No worries
No pressure then
How cool is that
I was stood
Let me make it perfectly clear
Can I help yourself?
We take our customers very seriously
I know where you're coming from
I hear what you're saying

Lynne59 Fri 07-Dec-18 18:41:34

No problem (that drives me mad)
Lol
Can I get
At the end of the day
It's doing my head in
I can't get my head around it
Like ("and I was like, and she was like")
Basically
Thinking outside of the box
Hit the ground running
I'll take it on board
Heads up
Awesome (for trivial, ordinary things that are NOT awesome at all)
from the get-go
step up to the plate
put your head above the parapet
draw a line in the sand

WHO thinks these things up in the first place??!

In conversation when a person keeps saying 'you know' throughout it.
Amazing.
You know what I mean.

Menopaws Fri 07-Dec-18 19:45:39

Back in the day
End of..

Menopaws Fri 07-Dec-18 19:46:04

My husband's is okey dokey

MrTumble Fri 07-Dec-18 20:26:22

"Run it up the flag pole, and see what way the wind is blowing."
"Smile in may never happen." ( maybe it already has).
"Play date." (As in when children are going to their friends play).
smile

MissAdventure Fri 07-Dec-18 22:46:17

Oh yes.
Play date! angry

Bellanonna Fri 07-Dec-18 22:52:38

Oh I don’t like play date!

Having said that I do use some of the phrases mentioned, and like Menopaws’s husband I’m always saying okey dokey!

MissAdventure Fri 07-Dec-18 22:58:26

I say rightio quite a lot, I think. smile
Probably really annoying, now I come to think of it.

Bellanonna Fri 07-Dec-18 23:03:37

I say that a lot too, MissA though it comes out more as righti-ho ?

petra Fri 07-Dec-18 23:04:24

I seem to be the only person who doesn't get annoyed at such insignificant utterances grin

Bellanonna Fri 07-Dec-18 23:04:45

Must stop saying it. Probably really irritating!

Bellanonna Fri 07-Dec-18 23:05:31

Good for you petra ?

Buffybee Sat 08-Dec-18 00:16:37

Yahh I'm home tomorrow x
Taaaa x
Yeahh smile x
Nah it's ok
No worries
Okayy
Yeye that would be good!

Just a selection of replies to my texts from Dgd's, I've noticed that they and their friends make long "ayyyy" and "ahhh" sounds to the ends of their words when speaking and also say Yeye, not yes.
So I suppose us saying Rightyho, is not too bad really.

Chewbacca Sat 08-Dec-18 08:47:02

"y'all right hun?"

Gives me the gripes it does.

Speldnan Sat 08-Dec-18 09:38:04

Back in the day- a new one originating from the US I read. Also train station instead of railway station.
I’ll just grab my phone/ wallet/ coat etc

geera Sat 08-Dec-18 09:39:01

The best I heard of was a 'manager' sending an Email to his 'team' suggesting that they should "Get their dicks in a row". Sometimes a typing error can turn the most irritating phrase into something wonderful.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sat 08-Dec-18 09:39:23

Obvs.
Simples.
Yay.
Cool.
I'm stood/sat here.
I envision, (mainly American) why not say imagine instead?
I'm sure there are loads more.

sarahellenwhitney Sat 08-Dec-18 09:39:34

Yay. This irritates me to screaming point.

maddyone Sat 08-Dec-18 09:40:43

What goes around, comes around
I was sat (should be sitting)
I was stood ( should be standing)
I could of got ( have)

Bobdoesit Sat 08-Dec-18 09:41:31

My husband's stock answer to everything is “really.”
“Your tea is poured.” “Really”
“Your mum is on the phone.” “Really.”
“I just fell down the stairs and broke my left arm.” “Really.”
“No, not really but even if I had I’m not really sure really is an appropriate reply.”
It drives me mad!

David1968 Sat 08-Dec-18 09:41:35

"Like...." (Peppered throughout conversation - aaargh!)
"You know....." (To which I've been known to respond: "Actually, I don't. ..")

harrysgran Sat 08-Dec-18 09:46:13

Babe,hun, fur babies,tremendous,lush ........I will stop nowsmile

MissAdventure Sat 08-Dec-18 09:50:53
