If you suspect someone isn't listening just throw in an outrageous comment to check - very effective!
Ah dear - why does getting older equate to dimished brain power?
With dh, that is. He was going to the post office and asked if there was anything I wanted.
Yes, please - plenty of 2nd class Christmas stamps - for all the UK cards I've already written and will be posting by 1st December.
He's come back with a load of 1st class stamps!
'Why didn't you get 2nd class, as I said ?'
'I thought 1st class would be quicker.'
'Er, I've been writing them early, to post nice and early, so I don't need 1st class stamps! That's why I asked you to get 2nd class!!!!'
I suspect it was the usual thing - just not #*#*ing well listening...

Grandad1943 having spent over 30 years actively campaigning for women's rights and studying the history of the women's suffrage movement I don't think I need lessons on gender equality from anyone, least of all a man who makes all the right noises but fails to understand patriachy at all.
It's fine not to approve of women making jokes about the failings of men but please don't tie that into any dicussions about equality, or try to take the higher ground and preach at us poor women. You disapprove because you are a man and you are quite entitled to do that. What you are not entitled to do is to claim that our jokes are the reason we have not achieved equality. The reason we have not acheived equality (and it is not a drive of recent years Mary Wolstencraft wrote "A Vindication of the Rights of Women" over 200 years ago) is because men continue to think they know better and can tell women exactly where they are failing. Thank fully there are some men who realise they can no longer do so.
This reminds me of a junior colleague who listened 'too well'.
A new junior into the office.
She was given for the first time, the already 'franked' outgoing mail and asked to take it to the Post Office straight across the road. Just hand it in please.
Now.... exactly straight across the road was a private house and attached to it was the Post Office. The Post Office was across the road but she thought not quite exactly.
So Junior took the mail and went to the house 'exactly straight across the road'. She knocked the door and as there was noone in she posted the lot through the lady's letterbox. We got it back the next day but of course the pre franked envelopes were no longer valid.
Grandad and Rufus Mr Squiffy is more than welcome to come on here and have a good moan about me and my many deficiencies. Of course, he would need to follow directions on how to find the thread . . . . .
Squiffy, that last comment made me laugh out loud.
Grandad, personally I do not wish to be equal to men, I have more ambition.
Mr Peardrop has selective hearing, only listens to key words and therefore often gets it wrong. This is one of a few faults but I love him anyway. If he were to post about me he'd probably say I'm a perfectionist and I nag but he loves me anyway. Vive la difference.
and here was me thinking it was only me who had a husband who did things like this mmm
I do not wish to be equal to men, I have more ambition
Peardrop50; Seeing as how "Man" is the most intelligent species on Earth, what have you in mind on your next re-incarnation?
Dolphins are intelligent and can talk to each other, apparently; not bad swimmers either.
What does Mr Squiffy think of your ambition? Not to replace him I hope!
Of course, he would need to follow directions
Squiffy; Of course he would! The thread was created by a woman.!
Seriously though; although threads are lighthearted bits of banter how come the poor DHs figure so often as dills. They must have passed their job interviews or perhaps lied on their C/Vs! Very strange!
There's always one ( rolls eyes )
A woman needs a good sense of humour as it's male comedians who always aim their jokes and banter towards us, i.e. Les Dawson ( Cissie and Ada ) Peter Kay et al.
Love this post and the youtube minimoon. Some time back, I text my OH to get wee pots for our annual MOT as he was going to the clinic that day. He came home with a small tin of potatoes
We still laugh about it now
It's called strategic incompetence Grandad 1943. If mothers were that incompetent while their husbands were away hunter- gathering their babies wouldn't survive.
Rufus What does Mr Squiffy think of your ambition? Not to replace him I hope!
What ambition? I never said that I have one! Mr Squiffy is irreplaceable, they broke the mould after he arrived in the world! He's a good bloke, really, but we all need a bit of a laugh about those Little Annoyances - him included!
Sorry Squiffy, you seem to have picked up the flak for my post re ambition. This error rather proves the point.
Yes, I think Rufus may be confusing your post with Peardrop's, Squiffy.
I'm saying nothing.
What ambition? I never said that I have one
Squiffy; Sorry about that! Sincere apologies to you and Mr. Squiffy. Confusion set in by my inattention; I should of course referred to Mr. Peardrop with regard to Peardrop's ambition. Both your names appeared in joint posts and I'm sure your DHs are both irreplaceable.
So, bowing and scraping as I back out, I'll shut the door behind me and try to make a dignified retreat.
Rufus I guessed you'd confused the posts! Mine was the one in the tall, kitchen cupboard, not the one under the sink!

I guessed you'd confused the posts!
Now Squiffy; I've triple-checked and I'm confident it's right this time, but what's this about "cupboards and under the stairs?" I give up!
This error rather proves the point
Peardrops; And what "point" would this be?
"and even the cupboard under the sink"
Strewth! I need new specs and pay more attention.!
Rufus Oh do keep up!!

My original post of Tue 27-Nov-18 11:40:06 says it all!
PS I typed 'under the sink', not 'under the stairs'! So it's not just Mr S who doesn't pay attention!
Pax?
Oh dear Rufus, now even our posts are confusing things by crossing in the ether!
Life is being taken over by too many stresses and Strines!
Perfect wives and partners, yes dear ,of course darling. I learned a long time ago that disputing anything is not to be contemplated, the consequences last a long time.
That does not prevent me disagreeing with other females where there are no consequences.
All good fun of course
My grandmother used to say she had no aspiration to be the equal of men, as women were by far superior.
My OH seems to resemble others mentioned who are frequently in 'not listening' mode. I just wonder what are they thinking about? Or perhaps they are in 'idling' mode?
All good fun of course
Peardrop50; Our OAP Comp. group this morning thought my account of recent threads was hilarious!
After picking themselves up off the floor we settled down to some serious thinking and came to the conclusion that you are all engaged in one big leg-pull of wishful thinking!
