Kevin the Carrot!!!

Sadly mental inadequacy becomes more and more common. Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause?

I fully agree its just a carrot and its all advertising hype which I dislike however my daughter and granddaughter popped in last night and my dad who has vascular dementia loved the carrots etc now he has no knowledge of who kevin is yet just loved the toys he actually laughed for five minutes in what hasn't been the best weeks so I can only say its a funny old world

I remember the Teletubbies frenzy; I didn't have grandchildren then but a friend, who is probably the most dignified and regal woman I know, had a handbag fight in Woolworth's to claim the last 'Tinky Winky' for her grandson. After that little episode I would believe anything I hear about toy fights in shops at Christmas!

There were loads of Kevins, Pascals and story books in our Aldi this morning. No one was buying them. No one seems to be buying them on eBay either. I don't know where these rumours have come from but I'm sure Aldi do!

I wish that I had stockpiled some Cabbage Patch dolls. I just searched Ebay, and this came up!

Loads in our local Aldi when we went in but all had been scooped up by the time we left. I have no one to buy them for or I would have done, they are really adorable I'm sorry to say. Its just a bit of fun and who cares if they are a five minute wonder, in those five minutes they're wonderful to someone. I got a roll of Kevin wrapping paper as my DH is amused by the ads and I loved the fake coke lorry one

No rush on Kevins in my local Aldi, shelves still full of them!

Why is the grumpy/evil parsnip called Pascal? Chantenay is at least a variety...

I don't think of Pascal as a foreign name just because it had foreign origins. Its popular in the UK.

All were available at our local Aldi - D made the mistake of popping in with GS and came out with a carrot family and a parsnip ????

I can't talk about parents buying these for their little ones,I remember queuing for Teletubbies,Kermit Frog and Friends and Cabbage Patch Dolls when mine where young.

Margs, my daughter seriously wanted a cabbage patch doll when they were all the rage. The doll was perhaps not the most beautiful however she was very much loved, so loved in fact that 'Ronda Ranna' still exists in a cupboard in my 38yr old daughter's house. How many years is that?

Maybe Kevin-mania hasn't quite struck north of the Border yet - I was in a local Aldi this morning and they had stacks and stacks of all the soft toys!

Quickdraw I think it may just be a wee longer than 38yrs my DD has only just given her Cabbage Patch Doll to her DGD and my DD is 48 next year she must have been about 6 at the time,we never heard back from the form we filled in for her adoption though.

Loads in my Aldi. First time I'd heard about it was seeing them last night. Closing time 10pm had all the types and the family. Giant Kevin the carrots too.

Just a fad like everything else. Hulla hoopes, roller skates, elastics, billy carts and yo yo's. Although all those fads I remember when I was a child required a great deal of energy and skill. They also required heaps of practice. This fad although fun sounds a bit sedentary. Things come and go, they might come back again, here is hoping.

The Aldi ad for Christmas is nothing like that in Germany. No gimmicks, no mascots. Definitely no Kevin.

However the media are finding is rather disappointing. Just a chap telling a fellow traveller what they will be having for Christmas - literally just listing all the food available for Christmas at Aldi. The most interesting thing is that Aldi Süd and Aldi Nord have joined forces. It is well known that the 2 Albrecht brothers fought and divided the empire into 2 parts many years ago.
