Quite cute & a bit of fun. My ds & dil have given them to my grandson for a bit of fun. They also teach him about healthy eating using books like eating the rainbow &
Taste ‘n’ Tell & a few others which teach him about where food comes from. It’s a balance!

What is it with this advert? I know it is cute and everything but it doesn't mean anything does it? it doesn't go anywhere. And whats with the parsnip?! I cant fathom it out at all. - BIG COL

The rest of the Carrot family turned up at the weekend, I know, I know!! Remember if you are doing the December Action Calendar, then KIND comments only lol.

When I was a child I remember actually making a Gonk. I didn't need it to be bought. Kevin the carrot is pretty easy to make if you have even the most basic skills ( no doubt its patented so I will just have to call it carroty. Here today and gone tomorrow. I am cooking many Kevins for lunch today.

I'd love all the stores spending fortunes on Christmas videos, dreaming up things like soft toy carrots and parsnips and other Christmas ruses to get people to spend, spend, spend, to give it all to charity. Wouldn't that be a magnificent gesture?

I remember the Bodach coming home with a Millenium Falcon toy in September, and I ranted and raved that it was far too early, and we couldn’t afford it that month. Come December, and there were none to be had for love or money! Oh, he was smug.

Thanks JackyB - suppose it’s obvious that different countries would have different adverts.
I found the German advert quite interesting as a non-German as it plays on social norms, friendship in spite of differences etc.
I did realise the Albrecht brothers had been in conflict and noticed yesterday when I looked for the Kevin toys on the websites that I had to look separately for north and south.

That the two men in the advert were like chalk and cheese - in the light of your comments is also interesting. As a Christmas advert, maybe it’s an attempt to imply that it’s a time to put differences aside? ... or is that too subtle?
How fascinating. I wonder if the German press have picked up on this joint advert?

The Aldi ad for Christmas is nothing like that in Germany. No gimmicks, no mascots. Definitely no Kevin.

However the media are finding is rather disappointing. Just a chap telling a fellow traveller what they will be having for Christmas - literally just listing all the food available for Christmas at Aldi. The most interesting thing is that Aldi Süd and Aldi Nord have joined forces. It is well known that the 2 Albrecht brothers fought and divided the empire into 2 parts many years ago.

Here it is.

Just a fad like everything else. Hulla hoopes, roller skates, elastics, billy carts and yo yo's. Although all those fads I remember when I was a child required a great deal of energy and skill. They also required heaps of practice. This fad although fun sounds a bit sedentary. Things come and go, they might come back again, here is hoping.cupcake

Loads in my Aldi. First time I'd heard about it was seeing them last night. Closing time 10pm had all the types and the family. Giant Kevin the carrots too.

Quickdraw I think it may just be a wee longer than 38yrs my DD has only just given her Cabbage Patch Doll to her DGD and my DD is 48 next year she must have been about 6 at the time,we never heard back from the form we filled in for her adoption though.

Maybe Kevin-mania hasn't quite struck north of the Border yet - I was in a local Aldi this morning and they had stacks and stacks of all the soft toys!

Margs, my daughter seriously wanted a cabbage patch doll when they were all the rage. The doll was perhaps not the most beautiful however she was very much loved, so loved in fact that 'Ronda Ranna' still exists in a cupboard in my 38yr old daughter's house. How many years is that?

glammanana Sat 24-Nov-18 13:09:58

I can't talk about parents buying these for their little ones,I remember queuing for Teletubbies,Kermit Frog and Friends and Cabbage Patch Dolls when mine where young.

NotSpaghetti Sat 24-Nov-18 10:02:37

But what HAVE they called the carrot family elsewhere I wonder?

NotSpaghetti Sat 24-Nov-18 10:01:36

GrannyGravy13 Fri 23-Nov-18 20:17:02

All were available at our local Aldi - D made the mistake of popping in with GS and came out with a carrot family and a parsnip ????

notanan2 Fri 23-Nov-18 18:59:58

Like isnt Peter greek?

notanan2 Fri 23-Nov-18 18:58:25

I don't think of Pascal as a foreign name just because it had foreign origins. Its popular in the UK.

NotSpaghetti Fri 23-Nov-18 18:44:58

Why not Peter or Patrick or some other "P" though notanan2?
Is he a "nasty foreigner" (I hope not!!)?
Wonder what he's called in Aldi in Germany?

notanan2 Fri 23-Nov-18 17:58:21

Cause Pascal Parsnip
& Kevin Carrot

NotSpaghetti Fri 23-Nov-18 17:54:18

Why is the grumpy/evil parsnip called Pascal? Chantenay is at least a variety...
The whole carrot thing is a mystery to me.
