Impulse buys and do you regret them?

I saw the Jeanne Robertson clip about not sending your husband to the store, it is hilarious. A really funny lady.

I bought a lovely red coat in the sale from Next some years ago and I get more compliments when I am wearing that coat than any other ones I own. Yesterday someone in the park said I looked like Little Red Riding Hood which made me laugh. I think when it's dull and bleak outside it's lovely to wear a bright coat.
I saw a lovely mustard scarf and matching gloves in JL today and was tempted to buy them to compliment the coat but had already spent too much money so decided not to.

Funnily enough I wrote an article on my blog this morning, about older ladies should be wearing brighter colours. Men too.

Do wear the coat.

You should take it back, get a refund, give the money away and immediately begin some serious self flagellation.

Thirty years ago a friend said "You cannot walk out of this shop without them." It was a pair of high heeled turquoise sandals. I couldn't walk in them but goodness I've had my moneysworth. Whenever I opened my wardrobe door there they were on a shelf. A dream of another me! Last month they went to a charity shop. Yesterday's dreams for me but tomorrows for someone else. I hope she gets as much pleasure from them.

Two things I bought in Cheltenham last January and regret both! A make up compact by Chanel, lovely box but the foundation therein hardly covers anything. The saleslady did warn me but I wouldn't listen. Cost about £35. And in the Radley shop a small shoulder bag in the sale, reduced to about £90! Barely holds anything and used once. Why did I bother?

I bought a bright orange winter coat a couple of years ago or so. Didn't need it, but I was so taken by the colour. Hung it up in the spare room for a couple of weeks and was going to take it back. However, I didn't, and am so glad; it really brightens up a dull winter day like today.

Jane, had a little smile because I did something similar this week, saw this really nice ( I thought so) coat in a local shop, notHobbs , not Harrods, not Joules, but Morrisons, it went in the trolley with the groceries and I love it!!!

I've admitted the pink dress, but I'd forgotten the poncho that lurks at the back of my wardrobe. It looked such a good deal- East label on it, and £5 on EBay. It's heavy. off white, Indian cotton weave and rather ornate. I have never worn it and if you see it back on Ebay, please think about buying it!

I can honestly say I've never bought clothes on impulse, nearly everything in my wardrobe is from charity shops. But housewares are different, I went in for a book & came out with a sale dining table & chairs. Then a couple of years ago I stopped on my way to the bus to look at the " clearance" outside a posh furnishers, Bought the most fabulous pair of heavy lined curtains for our lounge bay window at 80% off. Every morning as I fasten the gold rope tie-backs I smile at how good they look!

I love a red coat. I have several. Such a lovely colour & I think they lift your spirits.

I've got a cherry red coat (long jacket) which I haven't worn for a few years, perhaps I may pull it out from the back of the wardrobe.

I bought a red coat on impulse a couple of years ago. Not sure why because red is not my best colour at all.I don’t wear it often ,but have decided that I do look ok in it sometimes.
Wearing a red jumper today and just don’t feel right in it ,although had a complement about it from a friend.
Back to another impulse buy tomorrow. - striped jumper in black,cream and mid pink. Much more me.

I understand about living in anoraks. I am making myself wear my "best" coat because otherwise it's just a waste. I don't go out anywhere special so my little Coop gets to see it!

Impulse buys...hmmm. need to think as I don't get out now. I'll come back about it....

? Genadier Guard! I bet it looks fab Jane. Be brave and I’ll wear the bright green coat I bought with a combination of Debenhams New Year sale price & Xmas vouchers. It’s lovely and warm and hanging in the wardrobe because makes me feel like a giant mushy pea!

I bought a bright red raincoat this year from Next, I love it, daughter said if I stand still not to open my mouth as someone may post a letter!

Wear the coat and enjoy, it will brighten up the winter.
All my purchases are impulse, if I see something in my size and I like it I buy it.

Oh how I wish I could walk past a shop, see something and buy it! I am disabled now and so shop online, and as I seem to have out grown my winter/funeral coat am searching for another - I now have a lounge with I think 8 coats in it, mostly unsuitable as they don't fit my now very peculiar shape due to 4 ruddy hernias! The one I really like is actually far too big (sizes just are not consistent are they?) but they have sold out of any smaller ones, but have been in touch with a seamstress who says she could do it for me quite easily and is reasonably priced .... oh the doorbell and another 3 coats have arrived! Ha, ha! I always try them when my neighbour pops round for coffee as I can trust her judgement!

Only thing is I do need to keep a track of my return parcels!

I always buy on impulse when I think about it! Just about every purchase I make really, as if I’m strolling along past a shop and I see something I like, I go in! I’m not a big shopper to be honest. I’d hate the idea of going for a shopping trip with a friend. I go on my own if I ‘need’ something- in which case I’m on a mission to buy whatever it is and then I’m done. Spontaneous items just call out to me.... occasionally. That’s probably the reason why I’m not good at coordinating outfits. I often stand in front of the wardrobe wondering what I can wear with the new top that ‘called out to me’ when I spotted it in a shop window! You’d think at my age I’d have had it sussed by now. Seems not.
