I vary. Some days I can easily see the positive, other days the larger issues, such as the state of the environment, give me a lot of concern and it feels wrong to go about smiling and feeling happy to be going out to lunch with a friend when people are starving and the world seems to be going to hell in a handcart and few people really caring enough about it.

Yet, my being miserable and unable to see and feel
all the joys of my life won't help anyone or anything, will it?

To care deeply about larger issues, and be active in trying to do something about them isn't much of a recipe for a 'glass half full' to be honest. There is a lot wrong with the world, unfortunately, and it's quite a balancing act to keep positive in this situation.

Annie; Glad to hear that. Nothing like a bit of sunshine to warm the cockles of the heart. Before you know it summer will be with you soon and expect you are all hoping for a back-to-back scorcher again. Summer has deserted us; it rained horizontally all of yesterday on a westerly gale and we reached a dizzy top of 13C So anyone who can't stand hot weather emigrate to OZ. Brrr!

I am usually a glass half full type, but this morning I emptied it.
Went shopping to fill a box with lots of goodies for my granddaughter, as we are staying with her this weekend.
Piled it all in, as well as wine, chocs, nice nibbles etc.
Got to the checkout and realised I had left my vouchers and Double points coupon at home.
Can I get them credited retrospectively? No of course not. Would I like to go home, get them and return for the shopping? , No, of course not.
Got home, made a large cup of coffee, and muttered to myself all the while packing a box to take away.
Am I mad, YES, a bit, but it will pass.
I will enjoy our few days away.

Our heating packed in a week ago, landlord won't be fixing it til Monday. If you'd asked me yesterday I was at a very low ebb after getting up everyday to a cold house and struggling to keep the main room warm.
We bought a timer unit yesterday and it's bearable now.
So today I am half full, yesterday I was three quarters empty

Things always seem worse at night Alypoole and am sure you're not alone. It's not always good to hide it from others (some others) and I find it's helpful to share concerns with one or two really close friends. When scary thoughts are shared and not just circulating in you head they often seem less threatening.

I’m definitely a half empty, married to a half full. I DO try, I really do but sometimes I feel overwhelmed especially at night if I am awake- which I often am. Think I must follow my father. I’m aware how this attitude must affect my husband but I believe I hide it from most others. I worry about things before they happen and sometimes feel quite lonely in this situation.

Always half full - be grateful for your blessings and don't dwell on your tragedies is my motto.

This reminds me of the saying:
For a pessimist, the glass is half empty.
For an optimist, the glass is half full.
For the realist, the glass is refillable.
For the engineer, they made the glass too big.
(I'm married to an ex-engineer!)

Definitely a glass half full girl here! Have had plenty happen in my life to make me want to smash that glass to smitherines but being a 3 years and counting breast cancer survivor every day is a damn blessing now and that glass is always brimming with Gin or wine! ???

I don't think you can generalise. My 2 sons are definitely half full types while my daughter is half empty.My sister in law is a glass half empty type and yet she is a committed Christian. The Church has saved her from being a glass totally empty.

I'm a glass half empty. I don't suffer from depression, though I am worrier. I think if you consider the worst that may happen, the odds are things will be better than that.
At the moment I am trying to move and exchange keeps getting delayed. I've thought about the fact that someone in the long chain could drop out and I don't move so when exchange actually happens, it will be more of a bonus.

If you are a Christian you are a glass half-full person because there is always someone fighting your corner whatever goes wrong.

Whether you're a half full or half empty type it's clear to me you all need you cup topped up. More tea/coffee anyone?

i don't think you are born either way - we become the way we are as a result of our families. My parents were always cup half empty people but I've trained myself, over the years, to be more positive (even over not being able to have children plus now I have a chronic illness which confines me to home a lot of the time; my friends have drifted away etc). I now keep a gratitude journal and write 3 things in it every night - even if it's "I'm grateful for my warm, comfortable bed" (I could be homeless on the streets!) It's really helped me, over the years, to move my thinking and I'm happier as a result.

SheilaSue, I can't begin to imagine your ongoing pain, how awful that people have been unkind and so very stupid.

Definitely a half full and silver linings type. I was diagnosed with stage 2 bladder cancer in 2016, Had chemo and a urostomy and I now no longer have to get up in the night fir the loo. 2018 I was having a check up and the scan found a lump in the breast, diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy starts beginning of December, but feeling lucky as no chemo this time and how lucky was I that I was still having the regular scans or they wouldn't have found the deep breast tissue

After nearly losing my baby grandson last spring, I have always considered my cup to be overflowingly full so long as my dear ones are well and happy.

That’s me personally - I am a lucky woman, but it doesn’t blind me to the terrible hardship and unhappiness in the world today.

In that respect the poor old cup is down to the dregs!
