Driving in a fortunately quiet road this morning when suddenly a large black lab darts into the road barking and dancing around I managed to avoid her, just!
The guy strolls out from his garden calling her and appologise. "Your lucky I didn't hit her" (I'd have been devastated if I had).
"She's not used to being around houses and traffic, she's come from a farm. We need to gets some gates put up"
Well flippin' keep her out of the front garden until you do !

Closing the gate after the horse has bolted springs to mind.

The first thing that anyone with any sense would do would be to put gates up knowing that the dog wasn't used to traffic.
It's tough on drivers when this sort of thing happens where a dog suddenly jumps out of nowhere and you have traffic behind you . Loose animals cause accidents.

People are clueless it's terrifying.

We have had several dogs from farms and environments that are totally different to that of our own and we go almost overboard with the safety precautions until they are settled in and know every road, route and way to and from the house.

At this time of year even our own well-trained, settled and confident dogs don't go outside in the dark without leads and LED collars to make them visible should they for any reason get spooked or startled by fireworks etc.
