Afraid of things we shouldn't be

Are there any situations which make you really nervous - using the phone, maybe, or that kind of thing?
I have been thinking that I have to change my (new) job, and have been having sleepless nights worrying about how to bring the subject up.
I usually have to post here for moral support with these matters.
Please tell me others have things which they dread, and probably shouldn't.

Bizarrely, I am terrified of having my blood pressure taken. shock

MissA you have been given good advice, try not to overthink, once you say the first few words you will be fine. Or perhaps put things in writing, I often find that easier.
Which brings me to what I find hard, which to my surprise others find hard too, and it’s is using the phone. I avoid it if I can and much prefer writing where I have time to think what i want to say.
Good luck re the job, it makes sense for you to earn more, travel less and have a bit more flexibility. Let us know how it goes, x

I get a bit of this too. You have to stop thinking about doing it and just do it. Anything that sends you in a mental tizz like this just get it over with as soon as possible. Don’t concern yourself too much with how it comes out just say the words you need to say.

Thing that make me nervous is driving places that I have never been before. I like to have routes planned out in my mind.

I have, in my time, been the boss.

Honestly, people leaving is all part of the job. The more notice they give you the better. So gird your loins and tell them tomorrow.

They’ll say how sorry they are to lose you and get the advert in ASAP. No problem.?

So did you MissA if you did how did it go?

Miss A, sometimes we worry too much about what others think. Some years ago, while teaching children who had learning difficulties, my boss asked me to do the Post Grad in Special Needs. As, during my interview, it was mentioned that this might be a possibility, I felt that I couldn't refuse, though DH tried hard to convince me not to do it. I did this over fifteen months, while teaching, with only three separate weeks at university for tutorials. I was so stressed with all the work, and the thought of telling my boss that I couldn't complete it or, ultimately, that I had failed. I have never been so anxious in my life, and DH had no patience with me, all along telling me that I was stupid for taking it on. In the end, I completed it with a 2-1. I got no pleasure from this, as I was drained - but, the very worst part of it was that by the time that I finished, my boss was off, suffering from stress, never to be seen again in my workplace!! Such a lot of misery, as a result of not liking to say no, and letting myself and others down. Do what YOU need to do!

I'm afraid of needles (says (ex) nurse!)

You have my sympathy re the job situation. Be careful the other job doesn't slip out of your fingers - prevarication can cause no end of frustration when it could be over so quickly!

I have found myself getting increasingly anxious over lots of things - very nervous of cycling now (I was/am regular confident cyclist); nervous of falling; nervous of journeys; nervous of electronic banking etc. This is SO not like me and it worries me!

MissAdventure Mon 05-Nov-18 18:57:06

Can I have a fanfare of trumpets please?
I did it! I blustered and blushed and almost ran away, but I did do it.
Now you can look forward to "did I do the right thing?" threads. smile
I am staying a month, to help them out though.
The manager was very very gracious about it.

Jalima1108 Mon 05-Nov-18 18:59:37

Well done and it's very good of you to stay for the month.

MissAdventure Mon 05-Nov-18 19:16:33

Well, I wasn't quite as brave as I could have been.. blush hence the staying a month.

Jalima1108 Mon 05-Nov-18 19:20:20

As long as staying the month doesn't affect starting your new job, in which case we will all be right back behind you!

MissAdventure Mon 05-Nov-18 19:21:58

Well, I haven't actually got my new job yet. smile
Ever the optimist! I will, I'm sure.

oldbatty Mon 05-Nov-18 19:27:52

Are you a brain surgeon?

Jalima1108 Mon 05-Nov-18 19:29:38

how did you know old batty?

MissAdventure Mon 05-Nov-18 19:31:12

Not yet, batty. Why? grin

morethan2 Mon 05-Nov-18 19:43:35

Well done, is it a weight off your shoulders?

MissAdventure Mon 05-Nov-18 19:47:53

Oh it is, morethan!
I'm still feeling like a cad and a bounder at the minute though, or at least a female version.
They have been so helpful to me in the job, and there are parts of it I absolutely love.
Its just taking its toll on me.

I was frightened of the dark as a child with too vivid an imagination. A year or so back my DH had to go away and all those fears returned. I decided that I was being irrational and would try to overcome the fear. I got my DH to put a catch on the bedroom door to lock myself in. I have small night lights plugged in around the house and when he goes away now I can cope pretty well.

I also have a small two headed battery nightlight that I have attached to the bed head, I often just turn one on if I need a bit of dim light in the night. I got it from Amazon and my grandsons borrow it when they come to stay.

oldbatty Mon 05-Nov-18 20:32:10

Miss A, you have definitely done the right thing.

MissAdventure Mon 05-Nov-18 20:34:05

Ah, thanks batty.
I'm sure I have. I do still feel mean though..
I blame my mum! grin

Anniebach Mon 05-Nov-18 20:34:55

Well done you x

MissAdventure Mon 05-Nov-18 20:37:25

Thank you, Annie, particularly for your help. smile

Madgran77 Mon 05-Nov-18 21:52:23

Yay! Well done
