I moved to Jamaica with DHs work and was 6 months pregnant with my first baby. No mum or old friends.I
I made lots of new friends luckily. However my trunk with baby bits was delayed on the ship bringing them over.

I used.to play bridge with some American women of mixed ages, one morning a week. To my surprise they threw me a baby shower with lots of love, baby bits and bobs. All beautifully wrapped.if course. I always cherish the memory of those enthusiastically generous women in that alien environment.

At the time Jamaica was under the IMF and goods were restricted in the shops. I used the beautiful wrapping to decorate the baby's room. Thank you for my baby shower in 1978...never heard of one before that.

I saw that - but it's not a new thing. Belly painting has been around for decades. Not my thing at all but I knew someone that had it done almost a quarter of a century ago.

Not keen either on the US-style baby shower parties gift grab coming over the Atlantic either. I prefer the British tradition of new baby gifts and visits after the birth.

Well, if you’re not pregnant I don’t think you need to worry about it.

I think I have to confess as to being old fashioned and maybe some would say boring. I’ve just watched an article on The One Show about Baby Showers which to be honest not keen on the idea at all. Think they are a bit pretentious and from what I’ve just seen can be expensive. However this is the first time I’ve seen a pregnant belly having a ‘belly over’ having a design drawn over your bump. What else will people think off! Is being pregnant now so boring you have to ‘plump’ it up a bit.
