It’s Saturday, my favourite day of the week as there’s no work today or tomorrow . I always wish Saturdays would last forever .
Trouble is now that the weather has taken a turn for the worst I am bored and quite lonely. DH is hardly ever away from work these days ( Saturdays, Sunday’s makes no difference) The house is like a new pin, scrubbed, cleaned, tidied and sorted ( I do a lot in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep) . No children today, no money, no friends and I’m not a huge TV fan. I often walk on the beach alone or potter in the garden but it’s so cold and dreary outside ..... how do you fill in the hours ? ( apart from GN obviously )

Gillybob Quote 'nothing to look forward to' 'just the same old thing every day'. Sounds more like depression. At 56 there is so much out there for you so may I suggest, don't take offence, you have a chat with your doctor?.
Urmstongran not at all! If you google Lurgashall you will see that it is home to both a vineyard & winery with a restaurant, a Gin Distillery and a very nice pub called Noah's Ark. I have been to two and plan to visit the third so if anything it is a reflection on me... I think Gabriella can fight her own battles if she thinks there is one!
Oops. Sorry. EllanVannin’. I must have read the post from *Pecs with the ‘mmm’ and got mixed up tying her post in my head with yours!
I tend to record tv programmes that hubby doesn't like and watch them when I'm alone. I also love a good book, knitting, browsing various forums I belong to, charity shop exploring.
I'm often at a loose end at weekends. I try to fill the time by doing a giant crossword on Saturday and buying a large Sunday paper, feet up with lots of cups of tea.
I feel a little listless at times. Too damn cold to garden. I love to read, watch telly and quiz, bit of sewing, maybe.
I also knit, but I’m a winter knitter as I garden in the summer. For years I’ve knitted for premmie babies, hats, blankets etc.,
Have to admit I’d love a day to wonder what to do! My husband has Vascular Dementia and now Parkinson’s has been added to the mix (his, not mine), so my days are all mapped out. All day, every day!
Speaking of watching telly I've got the Talking Pictures ch.81 on at the moment with Vera Lyn in " We'll meet again ". I love this channel so many of the old films I remember watching from my days at the cinema.
Gillybob, I really feel for you. As a small step, could you do something to cheer up your office? Even buying a interesting plant or repainting it even .
And lots of other ideas on here. All best wishes.
Find a hobby. I knit, cross stitch do crosswords, bake. Read. I’m also a comper ,so I can always find something to do. A lazy Sunday stretched out before me is heaven and keeps me busy. Find something you fancy trying
I would love to live by the sea,but failing that is all my dog, read a lot, listen to loads of music and invested in a ps3 and play games which i actually find very therapeutic
A lot of Adult Education Centres do "one-off" Saturday classes. You could try out a different thing every Saturday!
Baking, Netflix, Read a book, Gym for swim, steam room, Jacuzzi. I do like Christmas movies on T V. You are lucky you have beach nearby. I am envious.
Make a jigsaw. Best if you have somewhere where you can leave it and do it a bit at a time.
Do you not have any time at all with your H.?
Do you like to read, write or paint etc.
Must be very lonely.
We can all give advice but when it comes down to it
It’s you who has to make the effort.
Find something to do.

Gilly I have a list of things I want to do, I think its called a bucket list. Things like get a photo in the Country file Calendar, travel to Japan by train and boat (expensive but I can dream and plan). I have a husband who is often out running, like today, so I got the cycle map out and took myself off in the car and then went cycling on my own and took my new camera to have a go at getting a good picture. I don't have any close friends that I can go with and my family is very small but I don't feel bored on my own. Why not fill you some of your free time trying something new. You never know.
As long as I have a good book I'm never bored. I could read all day given the chance.
I’m with you Craftycat. In fact today, apart from making lunch for my aunt, who I’m staying with for 5 days to give her husband a mini break (he cares for her 24/7 as she has mobility problems but won’t claim allowance as he says it’s what couples ‘in their 70’s’ do, bless) .... my day has been my own. My aunt loves television and I love reading so we’ve sat alongside one another all day in the sitting room, quite happily. Fortunately, I’m able to ‘zone out’ when I’m reading so the tv doesn’t bother me in the least. X Factor, The Chase, now Butterfly. But I’ve really enjoyed my reading. Bliss!
My DDs 40 & 42 love a jigsaw! It is quite 'on trend' I understand!
Ellan DH has discovered that channel..i am subjected to all sorts of 'amazing' films!
I would love to travel Barmeyoldbat but sadly can’t due to lack of funds (and debts) . I would love to cycle but I can’t as my legs are not strong enough (due to my MS) I have tried in the past but ended up making myself quite poorly. I don’t have a camera, other than my phone which is not quite the same is it? (my son is a brilliant photographer btw....)
I do love walking along the beach and collecting sea glass.
I also enjoy reading (currently in the middle of “Britt Marie was here” by the same author as A Man called Ove, Fredrick Backman and translated from Swedish) .
This afternoon I planted up my winter hanging basket and tidied the garden. I cleaned the downstairs loo and fitted a new toilet seat (something I’ve been meaning to do for ages) . So all in all it was quite a productive day for a Monday Eve.
As usual for this time I am VERY down thinking about tomorrow and the daunting week ahead.
Gilly so sorry that you have this gloom hanging over you. I have never been in 'business' but have family & friends who have been and are. Small independent businesses I know have suffered badly for a long time due to various governments' decisions/policies. One of the reasons my brother lives with me is due to the stress and strain of running his own business. It cost him everything.
I hope that DHs and your hard work and commitment help you get through the tough time and that things will be brighter soon
We have been fools PECS . At the start of the financial crisis 2 of our main customers went down owing us considerable amounts of money. We should have followed them and declared ourselves insolvent. It came to a head and we owed HMRC a lot of money and I was terrified (they were like wolves, out for blood) so being the type of idiots we are, we sold our house, caravan, cashed in our pensions and took a huge loan out to pay them off and keep going, weather the storm and keep the lads in jobs. To be honest we have never recovered financially or mentally.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing gilly. You did what seemed right at the time and it could have been right too if the financial slump hadn't been as big. I hope things come right for you.
Indeed it is Nfk
