Where Is Greta Thunberg These Days?
Quik question (daughter w new baby)
It’s Saturday, my favourite day of the week as there’s no work today or tomorrow . I always wish Saturdays would last forever .
Trouble is now that the weather has taken a turn for the worst I am bored and quite lonely. DH is hardly ever away from work these days ( Saturdays, Sunday’s makes no difference) The house is like a new pin, scrubbed, cleaned, tidied and sorted ( I do a lot in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep) . No children today, no money, no friends and I’m not a huge TV fan. I often walk on the beach alone or potter in the garden but it’s so cold and dreary outside ..... how do you fill in the hours ? ( apart from GN obviously )

Never get bored. I go for a walk wrapped up, or stay in and read, knit, play piano, draw and paint or watch TV. If I get fed up indoors I’ll go shopping and meet a friend for coffee.
See my grandchildren once a week and my elderly parents on another day so always plenty to do.
I do zoom in on something that sounds "not nice". Ellenvannin. I suppose I just don't like when something might offend.
I’m loving Britt-Marie Jane10 . I’m about half way through.

I didn't object to your comment, not at all. I didn't 'get' the joke until reading your later post and I certainly do have a sense of humour. At the time, I didn't connect that my spelling mistake 'sounded' as if I was squiffy but yes, it did.
I am quite a solitary person and spent five years virtually alone all week before the DH retired. I dreaded it but soon realised that being solitary can be a bit of a luxury.
Like you, I had the time without the money to make it amusing so I had to arrange my days with that in mind.
I had a regime where I did tasks in the morning:-housework, ironing, food preparation and baking, gardening, cleaning the cars and so on. I had paid for some of this to be done when I was working so it felt like my contribution to the domestic economy. I did not feel put-upon as I used the physical tasks as my fitness regime and listened to drama and other programmes on radio Four Extra while I worked.
The afternoons were mine to do as I liked. I always had a walk that lasted an hour at least and read my book. Reading is a luxury to me and I was able to read masses. At one point I used to visit the 'Silver Screen' showings of films at the local cinema. If you did not want to binge read you could watch a good film on TV, sew, pursue a handicraft, write letters, start a blog, do jigsaws, decorate a room.
Others often asked me what I 'did' and when I told them seemed to think I ought to be doing more. I think the 'more' was volunteering or going on holidays. I am sure that having a part time job or volunteering would ensure more contact with others.

Urmstongran thankyou so much for your apology. I appreciate that.
Join the U3A; I was bored with all the usual domestic activities until I joined and discovered interesting people and courses: even started one of my own: memoir writing, which has become an obsession.

Actually, no. I hate the shreds.
As a child, I used to painstakingly dig out the shreds from the spoonful on the side of my plate and spread the rest. Mum used to put them all back on the toast.
I learned to keep the shreds in the side of my mouth and remove them into my napkin at the end of the meal.
I remove the core of tomatoes and the chalazae (stringy bit) in eggs too.
Far to late to comment really so
I was one of the posters I think EllenVannin ‘on your case’. I am really sorry. I misunderstood some comments and honestly thought posters were being mean to GabriellaG. Anyway, a storm in a teacup. Please accept my sincere apology. I’m sure you have a great sense of humour! I do think sometimes that texts or messages can come across harsher than we intend.
Gilly you are under such enormous stress, I’m sure I’d have crumbled long ago. I so admire your tenacity.
for you.
When I need a bit of respite I try to do something which doesn’t allow me to think about anything other than what I’m doing, jigsaws are great for that and I don’t agree they are for older people, I have a friend 10 years my junior who enjoys them as much as I do.
I hope this is an ok week for you.
I know it isn't nice to say that annep, but I had two posters on my case just over that little joke. Methinks that there are those who are at the ready to zoom in at the least thing. Why ?
Have just found this thread, too late to comment really as the weekend is over.
You have such a busy life gilly it must be difficult to switch off on a weekend. No suggestions as it has all been said, just sending a {{hug}}.
Ellenvannin I got your joke ti GG.. You were joking about the typo. But saying Lighten up ..isn't nice.
May be it's not things to do that you want, but people to do them with? Sharing a walk and chatting en route, even cinema, or a craft session. For me, it's sharing a few hours with a friend that makes me feel happier.
Sorry to be trivial gillybob but I loved Britt Marie. Not sure exactly why but she sneaked up on me. Loved Ove too. I hope you enjoyed losing yourself in that world even for a little while.
GabriellaG, I was only referring to your " typo " which you corrected anyway. Lighten up, as life's too short for finding fault. I'm not here to insult anyone at all but I shall bear it in mind that humour isn't your thing.
Oh Overthehills I honestly don’t know what I would do without GN to keep me company during the day at work and I dip in and out most days.
Urmstongran The insurance is still on going as we are having to claim on our own policy and go through legal channels to get her to accept liability. It seems she has given a different address and has recently had her phone cut off in a bid to avoid us. Thankfully I took out legal protection with the policy which means they will pursue her on our behalf ( well I hope they will) I am upset that in the mean time we are having to pay out for a hire van and will no doubt lose our no claims bonus pushing our next premium through the roof. I expect this will go on for some time yet..... (thank you for asking)
I really can’t see an end to this pickle that we find ourselves in. Yes it does stick in my throat that we did what we did “in order to hold our heads up high” as we thought at the time. What a joke. If I had the chance again I certainly wouldn’t do it. Plenty small businesses who went down around that time came back bigger and better whereas we simply haven’t recovered.
Roll on Friday
Haven't read all the posts but I love time for my interests when I'm feeling ok. I do wish I was as young as you Gillybob. I'd still be climbing the Mournes!
Paper mache, tin whistle, keyboard ( very badly), art, jigsaws, reading(of course), gardening, writing memoirs..there's so much to do. A day isn't enough.
The shreds are the best part of marmalade surely!
Cripes! *that not thstmt.
Urmstongran
Wow! Thanks for that but I must mention thatmt I don't drink any alcohol, I don't like the taste...wine spirits, whatever. I went right off it after having my first child although I did imbibe quite a selection of tongue looseners in my salad days but NEVER gin...ugh!
I must admit that it would take something earth shattering for me to object to anyone 'having a go' at me. Everyone is entitled to their view and, in some cases, their remarks are warranted and taken on board.
I could not imagine taking umbrage at any GNers. I may appear, on the page, to be 'hard' but the steely exterior conceals a marshmallow core.

‘As usual for this time I am VERY down thinking about tomorrow and the daunting week ahead.’
That’s it. Right there gillybob in a nutshell.
Wondering where will it all end? You can’t see any light at the end of this tunnel and it drags you down trying to square the circle.
You recently posted about a very stressful motor insurance difficulty. Just to pile on the stress (which you don’t need). Any update on that mess?
