Hi- my stepdaughter never gives my husband- her Dad- and I any school pictures of the grandkids. We were at her house yesterday- bringing a meal because she just had another baby- and we saw the pictures laying on the table. Why do we never receive any picures? Does she expect us to pay for them? The only photos that I have are ones that I have taken.

If you ask your stepdaughter she probably has a code, the last time I bought one you went to the company’s website that took them,go to the school that the child attends, put in the code and all the pictures that were taken will come up,in some cases you can even go back a couple of years if you wanted to

We get the watermarket copies but dont buy any, is that what you saw?

Maybe another relative offered to buy some.

I certainly have not paid for them every year. Sometimes I do, but when I do the packs don't contain enough to give copies to all relatives.

Do you know what? Do more, get out more, be busier. You have a choice to fret over this or not. You simply need to be your authentic self and just assume that absolutely no unkindness was meant. Then go salsa!

I would rather take my own photos than pay school prices. it's so easy for even the worst photographer to take a good one with their phone or tablet.
On the other hand, if the photograph is a group one of the whole class I would buy one as an investment in the future. I still have my huge photos of everyone in my school. One taken in 1950, and the other in 1954, and still like to look at them and pick out my friends and favourite teachers. The family have also been fascinated to see Mum/Grandma at school. They are part of my history.

My son and DIL don’t usually buy the school photos for themselves. I persuade them to give me a link, and then if I like them I order them direct from the photographer. Much easier than nagging. I like to have class photos so I can see their friends as well.

Abbeygran Thu 25-Oct-18 20:02:45

I always buy them, from both DD and now ex DIL too.

Theoddbird Thu 25-Oct-18 19:45:36

My eldest rarely gives me any. I make sure I take some when I visit...She can hardly say don't take any in front of the children as they love pulling faces at the camera

paddyann Thu 25-Oct-18 17:32:57

Blackcat ever heard of copywrite ? You shouldn't just copy or scan anyones professional images.Thats theft .

Corkie91 Thu 25-Oct-18 12:59:36

Have you mentioned that you would like them. School photos are expensive and very unnatural, I never bought them when my kids were in school.

GoldenAge Thu 25-Oct-18 12:36:58

Bernt - these days schoolmphotos come as an online purchase of the electronic file and from that you can make as many copies as you want - you need to ask your DIL instead if conjecture in general why you are not given any - as an aside one of my stepdaughters is forever berating DH about having school photos of my daughter’s children around the home but none of hers - she never gives us any and when we’ve asked the answer is always the same - oh I’ll get round to it - basically it gives her something to rail on about - you can only ask and offer the money for the processing - if that doesn’t work I would begin to question why your DIL is so keen not to assist

Blackcat3 Thu 25-Oct-18 12:20:53

My guess is the ridiculous price they overcharge for poor photos!....but if they are good and you want one...ask her....or cheaper....photograph or scan the one she’s got!

red1 Thu 25-Oct-18 12:19:58

firstly its thoughtless on her part, but she is a stepdaughter and somewhere along her way she may have some problems relating to you-why she has is a big question.
why not just ask for photos? or are you expecting conflict?

Mamar2 Thu 25-Oct-18 12:01:26

I would never expect my DD to give me one. I always buy one. They're not cheap.

EthelJ Thu 25-Oct-18 12:00:14

To be honest these photos are so expensive if I want them I usually but them . My daughter shows them to me and then I order what I want, but I always pay for them . Does your daughter not show them to you? Sometimes they don't show the children at their best because they are done quickly. Maybe she doesn't like them very much?

On our school photos order form, there is a unique number, so you can go on the website and order with that number. Perhaps mention that you'd like the number next time, if dsd doesn't mind. If you go to the school website it usually has a calender of events or you can even read the latest newsletter. You can then find out photo days and other events.

driverann Thu 25-Oct-18 10:50:55

Why not just asked her. We have 7 grandchildren children at different schools one of the schools only supply the photos on a CD and it cost £35 per CD of ten photos. Your step daughter may not want to ask because of the price. School photos are just another rip-off really. They pull at your heart strings, it’s emotional blackmail. Take the above for example 600 kids in the school if all the kids relatives purchased one CD 600 x 35=£21,000. That is just one school. If the school takes half it’s not a bad days work for the photographer.

EllanVannin Thu 25-Oct-18 10:42:56

If you take photo's using your mobile there's a company online which then develops via an app, printed photo's for free ." FreePrintsApp.com ". My D did this last year and we received lovely photographs which you can put into an album as a keepsake. I have lovely pics of my GGC, school pics and all-----free.

razzmatazz Thu 25-Oct-18 10:41:34

Just say, as you spot them. "Ooh, these are lovely. Can we order one ?" She will then know you will be paying. They are very expensive and she may not be able to afford it She is busy and probably doesn't think and if the pics have just come and she has just had a baby, then give her the benefit of the doubt. Many reasons why .

dizzidi44 Thu 25-Oct-18 10:38:50

Why not use your camera or mobilephone if have one and take a picture, that's what we do

LinkyPinky Thu 25-Oct-18 10:37:43

Ask if you could scan them.

nipsmum Thu 25-Oct-18 10:30:31

My daughter usually gives me the school photos as part of my Christmas presents.

sarahellenwhitney Thu 25-Oct-18 10:13:32

bernt.Speak to your husband ask his opinion. I never gave my children's school photos to my parents or in laws.' or photos we as parents took. They were there for the asking.

Madgran77 Thu 25-Oct-18 10:12:24

She probably just doesn't realise you would like one! Some do, some don't! Suggest you ask her

Pat1949 Thu 25-Oct-18 10:10:52

I suppose it depends what the financial situation is. The photos are quite pricey these days. To be honest I do always pay for photos of my grandchildren.

Farmor15 Wed 24-Oct-18 22:51:47

OP posted twice, by mistake I assume. The other thread now seems the more active one and she's come back on that one.
