Hi- my stepdaughter never gives my husband- her Dad- and I any school pictures of the grandkids. We were at her house yesterday- bringing a meal because she just had another baby- and we saw the pictures laying on the table. Why do we never receive any picures? Does she expect us to pay for them? The only photos that I have are ones that I have taken.

You should ask her nicely ‘Are some of those photos for us’?
If not, offer to buy a few.

When my DGC were at their last school, the photos were so expensive that DR bought only one. I dare say that if I'd asked, and offered to pay for one she would have got one for me. To be honest though, they were not the best photos I've ever seen.
If you really would like a school photo, I would offer to buy one.

The last school pics the Birmingham DGCs had done were so awful DD bought one for the children’s sake but honestly they belonged in the Hammer House of Horror! Even to doting grandparents!

I don’t understand why you are asking us ask your step daughter if you could have one and offer to pay if the woman has just had a new baby I guess school photos are hardly a big thought in her head
Surely you or (preferable) her Dad could say we saw those lovely photos yesterday when we were at yours would you be able to get us a copy and let us know how much

Why not just ask them why they haven't given you any, adding that you are quite happy to pay for them.

Farmor15 Wed 24-Oct-18 16:22:05

We never gave grandparents any school photos- didn’t think they’d want them. Must have given them a few other photos though, usually duplicates. But that was in the days before digital cameras. Nowadays our children share photos of grandchildren by WhatsApp - we wouldn’t expect them to give us printed ones.

My eldest grandson has just had his first school photos taken and they were so very expensive so, no expect she's only bought one for herself. As others have said, just message her, saying you noticed the photo of the little ones and, next time would it be possible for you to buy one.

wildswan16 Wed 24-Oct-18 16:27:22

Why not say you would like one and how much would it be to order an extra one? School photos can be very expensive.

Take your own photos if you want one.

A little off the subject, but one of my Grammar school photographs was so bad that it was handed to me in a sealed brown envelope bearing the words 'no charge'.
The photographer had caught me 'mid blink', it was a truly dreadful shot blush
DM and I looked at it for about three minutes, then burned it before DF even got home!

School photos are really expensive these days and often not very good. If you really want some why not ask if they could put an order in for you as well?

You could also ask whether they do them online these days. My dds final set of school photos were available to view online so you could ask to have a look if they are and get an idea of the extortionate cost!

MawBroon Wed 24-Oct-18 17:55:39

Why do we have two threads on this?

PECS Wed 24-Oct-18 18:53:00

Dejavu

Farmor15 Wed 24-Oct-18 22:51:47

OP posted twice, by mistake I assume. The other thread now seems the more active one and she's come back on that one.

I suppose it depends what the financial situation is. The photos are quite pricey these days. To be honest I do always pay for photos of my grandchildren.

Madgran77 Thu 25-Oct-18 10:12:24

She probably just doesn't realise you would like one! Some do, some don't! Suggest you ask her

sarahellenwhitney Thu 25-Oct-18 10:13:32

bernt.Speak to your husband ask his opinion. I never gave my children's school photos to my parents or in laws.' or photos we as parents took. They were there for the asking.

nipsmum Thu 25-Oct-18 10:30:31

My daughter usually gives me the school photos as part of my Christmas presents.

LinkyPinky Thu 25-Oct-18 10:37:43

Ask if you could scan them.

dizzidi44 Thu 25-Oct-18 10:38:50

Why not use your camera or mobilephone if have one and take a picture, that's what we do

razzmatazz Thu 25-Oct-18 10:41:34

Just say, as you spot them. "Ooh, these are lovely. Can we order one ?" She will then know you will be paying. They are very expensive and she may not be able to afford it She is busy and probably doesn't think and if the pics have just come and she has just had a baby, then give her the benefit of the doubt. Many reasons why .

EllanVannin Thu 25-Oct-18 10:42:56

If you take photo's using your mobile there's a company online which then develops via an app, printed photo's for free ." FreePrintsApp.com ". My D did this last year and we received lovely photographs which you can put into an album as a keepsake. I have lovely pics of my GGC, school pics and all-----free.

driverann Thu 25-Oct-18 10:50:55

Why not just asked her. We have 7 grandchildren children at different schools one of the schools only supply the photos on a CD and it cost £35 per CD of ten photos. Your step daughter may not want to ask because of the price. School photos are just another rip-off really. They pull at your heart strings, it’s emotional blackmail. Take the above for example 600 kids in the school if all the kids relatives purchased one CD 600 x 35=£21,000. That is just one school. If the school takes half it’s not a bad days work for the photographer.
