The most annoying phrases heard in your house!

And coming in at number 1, is "You should have left that, I would have done it"

This is usually applied to clearing up, washing up, emptying/loading the dishwasher, and nearly always used just as any of the aforementioned tasks have been completed.hmm

And, at number 2 is "Oh, I didn't know that you saving/wanted that." This can be applied to many things, but that cold sausage ( or sometimes in my case, a cold onion bahjee blush) that you were really looking forward to can almost justify some sort of physical reaction, especially if insult has been added to injury by leaving the EMPTY greasy plate in the fridge angry

And, although this isn't a phrase, so I am guilty of deviating from my own OP, I dont think that leaving the hall light on so that I could actually see the cat vomit and avoid stepping in it, goes anywhere near to actually getting a bit of kitchen roll and cleaning it up!

lyndylou

Be careful! A friend of mine is on her fifth hip replacement because she just will not rest after the operation. Three on one hip two on the other.

Make him do it. You have to .

Definitely another vote for "You should have left that, I was going to do it". Day 10 after hip replacement and he has taken time off work to "look after" me. Yet again he disappeared to the shed ignoring the gravy stains on the kitchen work surface from last night's tea and in the whole 10 days he hasn't once shaken out the towel used to clean the dog's feet or swept the floor. My daughter has been in 3 times to do it last week but this day was particularly messy so I gave up and hoovered living room, swept kitchen and mopped floor, just as I finished he popped his head round the door and said "Are you just pottering around, dear?" He came very close to wearing the mop around his ears.

I’m SO glad I live on my own! I don’t think I could put up with another man living in my house!!

nannypiano Tue 23-Oct-18 11:47:00

Margs Tue 23-Oct-18 11:45:20

Pretty near to you Phoenix: ie;"Oh, if only you'd said......"

(Which would have been filed under 'Nagging'!)

HAZBEEN Tue 23-Oct-18 11:42:18

OH has just said "leave YOUR ironing until I am out tomorrow"! So is he going to do his now?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 23-Oct-18 11:37:50

gmelon Tue 23-Oct-18 11:30:51

We have had the same conversation every day since we got together.

Him "Are you alright?"
Me "Yes I'mfine"
Him "Are you sure you're alright?"
Me "Yes honestly I'm fine"
Him "You look a bit pale"
Me "Do i? Well i feel fine honest"
Him "Are you sure?"
Me "Yes"

"You dont look alright.............. I'm worried about you"know .

Big pause..............

Him "What are you thinking?"
Me "Nothing in particular"
Him "Are you sure? Tell me if you're not alright"

Etc etc.

I could scream.

When asked to do something my dad always said “leave it for now”. Now after his death 4 years ago we often say it when something wants doing and then burst out laughing. (This includes my mum who knew what he was like).

lizzypopbottle Tue 23-Oct-18 11:25:29

(Going back thirty years....) When baby wakes in the night, needs a nappy change, nose wipe etc. "Do you want me to do that?" instead of, "I'll do it!" or simply the action!

Jaxie Tue 23-Oct-18 11:21:43

It's so sad: we never used to have these exchanges with our partners when we were young, beautiful, and in love!

Chewbacca Tue 23-Oct-18 11:17:01

No Senectus! Dont go! Tell us about the things that your OH says that drive you nuts! It would be interesting to hear things from a male perspective. Please? smile

When i know for sure where something is and he's looking for it in said cupboard etc where it definitely is.

I dont respond to "i cant find it, its not here".

I know it's there. He can find it.

After over thirty years of this he still waits by the cupboard under the impression I might attend the scene of the mystery disappearance.

My apologies ladies - I’ve only just realised that this is a female network - I’m a grandad. Didn’t twig this before I joined - I’ll leave the group. Love the posts though. Cheers.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 23-Oct-18 11:08:18

Chewbacca that is a carbon copy of daily life here!!!

Greyduster Tue 23-Oct-18 11:07:47

Should be “He is not deaf, you understand!” According to him!

sarahcyn Tue 23-Oct-18 11:06:49

"I was gonna"
(I have 3 twenty somethings living in house)

Senectus Tue 23-Oct-18 11:06:35

“Will you pass me ____”, said when I’m sitting down and asking for something in another room! Use of the word ‘pass’ implies my close proximity to the requested article ... right?

Greyduster Tue 23-Oct-18 11:06:25

“It’s because you mumble!” He is deaf, you understand!
“What’s wrong with this b****ng now”, pointing wrong remote at Freesat box.
“We’ve seen this already”. No we haven’t - he just wants to watch something else and can’t be bothered to go upstairs to do it!
“Which exit did she say?” as we miss another exit on a roundabout!

goldengirl Tue 23-Oct-18 11:02:42

Oh my goodness! These are the sorts of things that I say - not DH blush

gillybob Tue 23-Oct-18 11:00:56

1) “don’t let me forget to........”( I won’t.... but you still won’t do it )

2) (when leaving work) “I’ll not be far behind you so just wait until I get in to make supper and I’ll give you a hand ” ( oh yes and we will eat at midnight)

3) “are we having the children this weekend?” (what’s with the “we”?)

Beechnut Tue 23-Oct-18 10:56:22

When menfolk can’t find anything you have to ask them, “Have you had a boy look or a girl look”

Carolina55 Tue 23-Oct-18 10:52:22

Him: where’s the whatever?
Me: top shelf bathroom cabinet
Him: I can’t see it
Me: definitely there, saw it this morning
Him: well it’s not there now
Me: have you looked properly?
Him: yes (getting shirty)
Me: do I have to get up and find it for you?
Him: I’ve looked twice and its NOT THERE (shouting)
Me: Right!
Go to bathroom, open cabinet door, move small item out of the way to find what he wanted all along, throw it at him saying ‘If it doesn’t jump out and bite you on the nose....!’

HootyMcOwlface Tue 23-Oct-18 10:50:47

I’d have hit him with it anitampl!
