The most annoying phrases heard in your house!

And coming in at number 1, is "You should have left that, I would have done it"

This is usually applied to clearing up, washing up, emptying/loading the dishwasher, and nearly always used just as any of the aforementioned tasks have been completed.hmm

And, at number 2 is "Oh, I didn't know that you saving/wanted that." This can be applied to many things, but that cold sausage ( or sometimes in my case, a cold onion bahjee blush) that you were really looking forward to can almost justify some sort of physical reaction, especially if insult has been added to injury by leaving the EMPTY greasy plate in the fridge angry

And, although this isn't a phrase, so I am guilty of deviating from my own OP, I dont think that leaving the hall light on so that I could actually see the cat vomit and avoid stepping in it, goes anywhere near to actually getting a bit of kitchen roll and cleaning it up!

No1. I've emptied your bins. ( Put out the wrong ones)
No2 oh I was just going to do that ( had the 9 hours I was at work to do it.)
No 3
I've cleared the snow from he driveway.( Managed to make an 18 inch wide path and covered it with ash so I wouldn't slip !!!!!) Need I say more .

"The problem is.............(pick a non-problem)" - repeat all day until wife is climbing the walls.

The REAL problem is that OH keeps saying "The problem is....." grin

"I'll do it tomorrow" why would he think I am asking him to do something now, if I wanted it done tomorrow.

curlilox Tue 23-Oct-18 10:30:53

When I'm preparing a meal, "Is there anything I can do to help?", late enough that there is no danger of there being anything left to do. grin

Beechnut Tue 23-Oct-18 10:33:13

This thread has made me smile a lot and I have experienced a few or similar myself.

mabon1 Tue 23-Oct-18 10:33:26

People who say "could of" instead of "could have"

Beechnut Tue 23-Oct-18 10:36:06

Keep them coming....I’ll smile all day and hope they bring smiles from others.

Cambia Tue 23-Oct-18 10:38:54

As you are going in the supermarket......”what do we need”? I now read the entire list out loud every time.

Chewbacca Tue 23-Oct-18 10:42:27

"Why didn't you ask me to do that for you, instead of struggling with it on your own"? This, after days/weeks/months of asking and getting no response

EllanVannin Tue 23-Oct-18 10:43:23

Ah the memories. Alas I only have myself to blame but nevertheless I couldn't help but smile at the familiarities.

Izabella Tue 23-Oct-18 10:46:36

The phrase I hear often is "well where did you leave it?." If I knew it would not be lost

My DH once accused me of moving his PlayStation cable from the back of the TV. His logic was he knew he didn't move it so I must have. Not something he used often so he didn't know when it vanished. We rarely argue, but it went backwards and forwards between us for days with him adamant I MUST have moved it when I was dusting. And me equally adamant I hadn't. Days later our grown up son dropped in and DH mentioned it to which DS replied he was sorry he borrowed it one day when we were out and had forgotten about it. Did I get an apology from DH? Nope. He was still right because he knew he hadn't moved it. Men!!

tinafl, yours is my favourite so far. Very droll. Don't think I've encountered that before but it is so accurate. Mine only happened once when my newish husband proudly announced that he had done my ironing. It didn't happen twice. However was a fun source for years each time we assessed individual contribution to the need for a particular chore.

HootyMcOwlface Tue 23-Oct-18 10:50:47

I’d have hit him with it anitampl!

Carolina55 Tue 23-Oct-18 10:52:22

Him: where’s the whatever?
Me: top shelf bathroom cabinet
Him: I can’t see it
Me: definitely there, saw it this morning
Him: well it’s not there now
Me: have you looked properly?
Him: yes (getting shirty)
Me: do I have to get up and find it for you?
Him: I’ve looked twice and its NOT THERE (shouting)
Me: Right!
Go to bathroom, open cabinet door, move small item out of the way to find what he wanted all along, throw it at him saying ‘If it doesn’t jump out and bite you on the nose....!’

When menfolk can’t find anything you have to ask them, “Have you had a boy look or a girl look”

gillybob Tue 23-Oct-18 11:00:56

1) “don’t let me forget to........”( I won’t.... but you still won’t do it )

2) (when leaving work) “I’ll not be far behind you so just wait until I get in to make supper and I’ll give you a hand ” ( oh yes and we will eat at midnight)

3) “are we having the children this weekend?” (what’s with the “we”?)

goldengirl Tue 23-Oct-18 11:02:42

Oh my goodness! These are the sorts of things that I say - not DH blush

Greyduster Tue 23-Oct-18 11:06:25

“It’s because you mumble!” He is deaf, you understand!
“What’s wrong with this b****ng now”, pointing wrong remote at Freesat box.
“We’ve seen this already”. No we haven’t - he just wants to watch something else and can’t be bothered to go upstairs to do it!
“Which exit did she say?” as we miss another exit on a roundabout!

Senectus Tue 23-Oct-18 11:06:35

“Will you pass me ____”, said when I’m sitting down and asking for something in another room! Use of the word ‘pass’ implies my close proximity to the requested article ... right?

sarahcyn Tue 23-Oct-18 11:06:49

"I was gonna"
(I have 3 twenty somethings living in house)

Greyduster Tue 23-Oct-18 11:07:47

Should be “He is not deaf, you understand!” According to him!

GrannyGravy13 Tue 23-Oct-18 11:08:18

Chewbacca that is a carbon copy of daily life here!!!

Senectus Tue 23-Oct-18 11:13:36

My apologies ladies - I’ve only just realised that this is a female network - I’m a grandad. Didn’t twig this before I joined - I’ll leave the group. Love the posts though. Cheers.

When i know for sure where something is and he's looking for it in said cupboard etc where it definitely is.

I dont respond to "i cant find it, its not here".

I know it's there. He can find it.

After over thirty years of this he still waits by the cupboard under the impression I might attend the scene of the mystery disappearance.
